Universe Nail Spa

The person who did my pedicure made the big toe on my left foot and right toe bleed! She is not very careful and I much rather find another spa that is more careful when cleaning the cuticles. Last time I got the same person and walked out with real sore underarms because she used extreme strength. She likely is not a certified massage therapist so I hope she didn’t apply excess pressure in the wrong areas. Her name is Tran so make sure you don’t go to her! I also think in general they don’t do a good job cleaning the cuticles. Definitely not coming back.

I’ve been to this nail place a handful of times and have never left unsatisfied. They always do a great job and are very welcoming. I’ve gotten the gel manicure and it has lasted well into two weeks and still going strong. And that’s saying something because I work with children and my hands are always busy (art, cleaning, daily tasks etc.) I’d recommend this nail place to whomever asks. :) Price wise they’re right in the middle to upper, so that isn’t a contributing factor at all. The final product, cleanliness, and welcoming staff is what brings me back.

This shop in Burlingame was bought and is no longer Universe. I can’t remember the new name, but they did a very very very BAD job on my nails. And even worse when I went back to get them fixed.

The place is now called something different, but for the sake of people looking up nail spas by location, there’s still a great nail spa at this address! Everyone was very friendly and their was no wait even though I didn’t have an appointment. My gal didn’t speak english, but with some pointing and nodding we figured out all we needed to. The chairs are fabulous and the pedicure was really good. They rub lime on your toes which is kind of a new «twist» to the regular lotions. It was well worth the $$ and I’d go back for sure.

I have only been here once but I loved it! I was running errands early on a Sat morning and realized that I really needed some pampering! I always went by this place but never actually gone in until that day. It was empty so they sat me down for a mani/​pedi right away. Then I was given a choice of tea with a snack bag of grapes and baby carrots. It was a major plus because not only do I like them both but the grapes were hard, just how I like them.
Another major plus was the service. Everyone treated me very well! Unlike other places and there is only one customer they start talking loudly in their language and doing their own nails etc. they all were focused on me being comfortable and enjoying my mani/​pedi.
Last but not least… they BOTH lasted a long time! It was about a week for my mani, which is a LONG time because no matter what polish it always chips in the first 24 hours. And for the pedi it was up until I got my next pedi. I would DEF go there again but only when I want to spend a bit more since it comes out to $ 50 for both.
So happy I finally tried it!

Can only give this place a .5 for the beautiful salon, other then that it was a horrible experience! I was calling around trying to find a nail salon that does dried flower acrylics and they said they do. When I got there after finding nowhere to park, I found they had it but no idea what so ever how to do the flower! Horrible communication, after trying to convince me to do something else (which I wouldnt because i called to make sure) the lady ended up putting the flower on top of the acrylic nail instead of under and it chipped off within hours (and I was charged 7 $ for the flowers). She charged me 47 $ for a FILL and flowers!!! I mean WTF! I was I there for 2 hours, terrible job and cut my skin!!! Now it’s about a week later and they are falling off! This place is terrible! I suggest somewhere else!!! I will NEVER be back here.

My sister and I wanted to grab lunch and a pedi in Burlingame. I’ve been to the San Mateo location about 5 – 6 times and have always received a nice pedi… since we didn’t know of a good salon, I figured this Burlingame location would be at least par. Unfortunately, the experience left us feeling blah. The technicians were not very attentive, busy chatting with each other… the cuticles were not well manicured so not enough attention to detail and massage did not feel like much. We will not return for another visit however will go to the San Mateo location.

This salon was great! i have had a very difficult time finding a nail salon i like in the bay area.(in so cal theres a nail salon on every corner)…but this salon was not only top notch in terms of aesthetic, services, and prices– it’s also right around the corner from my house! the girls were very friendly and didnt chat with each other while they were working on their customers. The place is really cute with bright green walls and scented candles and they even give you a snack while you get your nails done! i will definitely be a repeat customer :-)

This is my FAVORITE nail salon! I always get the universe pedicure because they spend extra time with a leg and foot massage. (A great deal for the price!) They provide a little snack and drink and all the girls are super friendly. Love it!

A nail salon (or any type of spa place) can aim to be as chic and high end as can be, but when it comes down to it, it’s really about the technicians working there and their level of service. These 4 stars are more for Sunny (sp?) than for Universe, but she is why I’ll probably keep coming back here for pedicures. My first experience with Universe was at the San Mateo location. The pedicure itself was fine — lasted long enough, but the nail technician I had just made my $ 30 seem so wasted. She looked bored as hell (which I understand, but fake a smile at least!) and she gave me the worst massage ever. I felt like my leg was being fondled instead of massaged.
Fast forward to a few months later. I wanted a pedicure before my cruise, and decided this the Monday before we left. Universe in Burlingame is open til 7pm, so I ran in there around 6:45 and asked if they could fit me in. They happily obliged, and I was seated at Sunny’s chair right away. I felt bad coming in so close to closing, but Sunny did not rush at all and took a good 40 minutes filing, painting, and massaging (definitely does not skimp on the massages). The poor girl even patiently waited as my polish dried and then closed up shop all by herself. I really appreciated that level of service.
As for the salon itself, the Burlingame location is a decent go-​to nail salon. They have comfy, functional massage chairs and a fairly large selection of OPI colors.

I went to the one in San Mateo and loved it, so when I was on a trip and I see this place in Burlingame I had to make time to go! Same owners so same amazing service for manicures and pedicures! Definitely worth every penny and they do such a great job and make me feel like a queen!

This place is amazing! Very clean, relaxing, reasonably priced for a perfect manicure and will always choose to go here for mani/​pedi!

My friend & I had missed the original nail salon that we were recommended to go to so we ended up parking in front of Universe Nail Spa. We walked right in & they got us started w/​no hesitation. We had just come track practice & the gym & we really needed some relaxation time. They asked us if we wanted green tea or water, they gave us carrots & grapes for snacks, put a nice warm aroma therapeutic neck pillow thing on us, & they set up a couple of magazines on the side of our spa chairs for us to look at while we were getting our pedi’s done.
The workers are very nice & friendly, & I love how they really take the time to massage & ex foliate our legs. Although it did cost me $ 30, it is totally worth it!!! The price is not bad at all, considering that you get food, a drink, magazines, & a neck pillow thing.

Outrageously overpriced for soak off gel nails. $ 50.00 and they didn’t last a week. I have been a repeated customer for years and keep trying to convince myself that it is a good place. Even with reservations I have had to wait a long time even when people have walked in off the street and gone before me. Just not consistent with their service.

I’d like to say I had a isolated experience because of weird circumstances, but I arrived at Universe on time for my appointment and waited probably 20 minutes before they got started on me. But I can forgive that.
But while I was waiting I had to sit next to 2 ladies who were already finished getting their nails done, talking loudly about, of all things, food poisoning. This chick was actually listing, in numerical order (she must have really thought about this), possible causes of why one of their friends got the shits. Yes, I know this is a nail salon and not some fancy spa and we’re all just trying to get decent looking hands and feet, but could a girl get a minute to relax and not be grossed out.
And then of course on the other side of me is this bratty (and dare I say, really hideous looking) 16 year old and her mom, and they’re jabbering away. And the big kick is, in the middle of her french manicure, she starts yelling that her nail lady is doing it wrong. Like going off on her. I can just picture this bitch in 10 years. And they have the person who is working on me, stop, and go finish her nails. So here I am, sitting there, halfway done, and I’m thinking, wtf just happened. I was also getting their extended services with a scrub and massage and this just kinda killed it.
At least after about 10 minutes of chillin another lady came and apologized and finished my service.
I know I can’t really hold it against the Universe, but damn, let’s not even lie and pretend some of the people who frequent there aren’t batshit crazy.

Don’t like weird environments while getting mani-​pedis: manicurists chattering loudly, rude staff, hole in the wall or unsanitary looking places.
This place has none of the above.
Friendly, professional, customer oriented staff who are attentive. Well staffed — minimal wait for walk-​ins, even if they are full. They talk if you want to talk, are quiet if you want to just relax. Wide selection of Opi polish. Great mani-​pedi (they really spend a lot of time making sure it’s done well) with good massage. Offer water or green tea, and a little baggie with carrots and grapes, which was a cute touch.
Was a nice change after a not so great experience at Euro Nail Spa.
I may just have to cheat on my SF nail salon and switch over…

This place is amazing. The staff is so kind and definitely cares about customer satisfaction. It is a fairly large nail salon, with acrylic nails done upstairs. I really liked this part, since you do not get any of the fumes or smell from acrylic nails, if you are just getting a manicure or pedicure.
The manicure I received at Universe Nail Spa is probably one of the best ever! The nail tech was very accommodating, making sure that my nails were shaped the way I liked. She gave me the most amazing full arm massage, and really took her time. They put a warm neck pillow on me for ultimate comfort. My time there was very relaxing and my nails look great! I will definitely be back.
Although the manicures here cost a little bit more at the average nail salon ($ 20 here vs. 12 – 15 at other places), the price it totally worth it. The staff really goes the extra mile to make sure you are fully satisfied. And nothing beats great customer service!

AWESOME! :) Absolutely loved it! It was really clean, the staff was super friendly, and the service was fab! I got the Universe pedicure (longer massage, some sort of clay foot mask, scrub– highly recommend it) and a manicure (great full arm massage) $ 65. I will definitely return!!!

I have lived in this area for two years and have been in search of the perfect pedicure. Hallelujah I found it! Ask for the universe pedicure, they give you a foot massage for a half an hour! And they put this wonderful mint cream on your feet that helps with circulation. They girls that work there are not rude like other places and they really take pride in their customer service. They don’t even bat an eyelash when you walk in and they are packed with every chair taken plus people waiting and you say you need a pedi. They respond with «no problem.» My favorite color they have there is OPI My Private Jet it is black with sparkles, soooo pretty! They also did my last fill on my nails and did an excellent job. She really took her time to make sure my nails looked perfect. Althogh this joint is new to bgame you MUST TRY THIS PLACE.

Who knew that it would be so hard on a Sunday, in Burlingame, to find a nail salon OPEN! I know B-​game is the ‘burbs’ but c’mon (said like Gob on Arrested Development).
H-​town and I finally found Universe Nail was open (using the iPhone Unilocal app and dialing for pedicures). We were thrilled to make it in before closing and then were both very impressed with the services. Massage chairs, little snack bags, heated neck pillow, exfoliating scrub and good massage w/​lotion and oil, I got extra attention on my calluses when I pointed out a specific area. The actual painting was perfection and nicely painting the tops of each toenail. It was $ 30 for a pedicure, which is not budget for a pedicure but hey they were OPEN on a Sunday and they really did a great job so it was worth it!
