Sooo many varieties of apples — amazing. You can sample them before you buy. Nice description cards for each variety. Reasonable pricing. And, not insanely packed with tourists. The day we were there a farmer was selling his squash and veggies also. I would come back. They are good apples!

My friend and I drove to Brightonwoods Orchard after we attempted to go to Apple Holler(about 15 minutes away), and were so disgusted by the outrageous apple-picking prices, we went searching for somewhere else. Brightonwoods Orchard is located on a gorgeous property with lots of trees. They have tons of different varieties of apples, which you can sample as you’re shopping. The apples were delicious! Most were priced at $ 1.75/pound, with a few at $ 2.00/pound and Honeycrisps at $ 2.50/pound. They also sell cider(delicious, too, and apparently prize-winning, according to the sign in the apple barn). Oh yes, and did I mention they take credit cards? Even better, there is a winery called AeppelTreow Winery located on the same property. We were able to sample 5 different offerings for free(although you should bring cash to tip the kind folks serving). This place is great, and worth the trip!

Every fall, plan on taking a few trips here with my mom. It’s kind of a special thing we like to do, since my parents live a few miles away. This apple orchard is awesome. Depending on when you go, they always have a fantastic selection of different apples(and pears!) available. The apples are reasonably priced(I have never found them to be overpriced at all), the staff is friendly and beyond helpful, and like any apple orchard worth their salt, you can get some free cider samples. They also sell apple jams, jellies, and pottery done by local artists. The kids always have a fun time, too — there’s a huge treehouse they can play in.(Seriously, the treehouse is two stories. If grown ups were allowed, if consider going up there too.) Speaking if grow ups, check out the winery next door. They offer tours and samples! All in all, Brightonwoods is a fantastic way to spend a beautiful fall day, and support a local orchard while doing so.

Just left there. Great selection of apples although I guess that there is a shortage in the Midwest this year due to frost issues this past spring. Really a pleasant visit and loved the fresh cider and brought home about 5 of the many varieties available and gourds.

Brightonwoods is a great SEWI orchard. In the era of vanishing family-based agriculture it’s great to have a place like this not so far. Their selection of antique varieties is unrivaled. That said, be prepared to buck up. Apples are very expensive here, as is the case with most orchards within reach of Chicago & Milwaukee. Now 2012 is an atypical year due to the spring heat wave and April freeze, but even last yr their crop was expensive. In fairness all the other SEWI orchards are the same, and some commercialized ad nauseum, and since Brightonwoods still has that old world feel it’s one of the best in my book. We will continue to come here, but next yr we go back to our favorite orchard in SWMI where apples are 1⁄3 the price they are in SEWI. Central WI has great orchards too, Lapacek’s in Poynette is another great one but inconvenient since we don’t travel that way much any more. FYI as of Sat 9÷22÷12, honeycrisps were gone for the yr. They didn’t even have a honeycrisp crop; they had to buy some crates from an orchard west of Madison to have any available for purchase, and limited their customers to 20 lbs each per visit. @ $ 3 lb for small honeycrisps, it’s a wonder there was much of a mkt for them at all.

I visit Brightonwoods at least once in the late summer or early fall apple harvest season. There is something serene and pastoral about visiting here; I feel that it is certainly worth your effort to stop by and sample the apples and the many other products available for sale. Pictures tell more than a thousand words so for the full story, check the ones that I added from a recent visit.

The orchard grow over 130 types of apples. The orchard store is great for apple shopping. Not that there were 130 varieties being sold, but they did have many varieties I have never heard of. Also, they have the best apple cider I have every had. It is sweet ambrosia, nectar of the Gods! Also, there is a winery onsite.
