I just had a great experience at Shear Envy and really want to give a positive shout-​out to Casie, the owner and über patient stylist who spent three hours dealing with my neuroses. I’m a woman in my fifties who has never colored her hair. A few highlights over the years, sure, but now that the gray had sort of taken root – so to speak – I decided to throw ego to the wind and get a full-​blown new color. First, I met with Casie for a consultation. Showed her a few photos of what I had in mind. Told her my fears about doing anything too dramatic. I said I wanted to take baby steps and not come out of the salon looking like a totally different person: I just wanted to look a little better. She heard me. Oh yes, did she ever. She put a few highlights in my hair, then gave me a Demi Permanent Color (it fades out after 20 – 30 washes) that was my same hair color, but richer, with a little copper thrown in. After a trim, she gave me an express Keratin Treatment to keep the frizz away. A day later I am staring into the mirror in admiration. It’s a subtle change, to be sure, but it’s EXACTLY what I asked for – totally natural-​looking. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate a person who knows what she’s doing, who listens to her client, and gives them what they wanted. I’m a client for life. Thanks, Casie.

Fantastic waxing experience! This place uses a soy based wax that is amazing… One of the least painful waxes I have had in my life. Highly recommend!

I did the full keratin treatment (not the express) in late August because I was told it would last three to six months. I usually do the Brazilian blowout. I am back at my old salon doing my Brazilian in two months. I don’t know if it was the way it was done or the treatment but a big disappointment.
It is a nice salon and experience but avoid the straightening treatments.

A huge thank you to Johanna for being amazing! I had a major hair emergency an hour before my best friend’s wedding and Johanna literally saved the day. The salon is filled with kind hearted, honest, and professional stylists who listen and care. Every seat was filled and they still found time to turn my not so blow out blow out into a beautiful hair style. I am on day 3 and it still looks amazing and 15 times better than it did when I walked in there. If I lived in Vermont this would be my hair home. Rachel White does a fantastic job every single time, and will make sure you leave the salon feeling how you look, like a million bucks. I’ve been seeing Rachel for years, Shear Envy has a fantastic staff and even better atmosphere. Just look for the silver scissors hanging outside of Northfield Bank on College Street and you’ve found your one stop shop for a great experience.

Ladies, you know how it goes… you skip from hair stylist to hair stylist, never really feeling that you are 100% satisfied with what you come out with. Well, we’re in luck… Ricky, my hair god is back in town! He was originally at a salon in Essex Jct, moved out of state for a bit but has moved back and set up shop at Shear Envy on College Street.
I am so excited to see him in a couple of weeks — since he moved for a couple of years, I had been feeling as if I’d been «pimping» myself out to the local salons, going from one bad ‘do to the next. Ricky is the only stylist who I leave feeling like a million dollars.
