To echo Jake F.: If an organization doesn’t have the community’s interest at heart, it has no place in the community.

It has been widely shared on social media that Bushwick Flea does not have the best interest of longtime residents of Bushwick in mind. A flea market should be about celebrating community rather than simply making a buck and disrespecting the people who live there in the process.

I bet if you give this new, small flea a year or two it will have time to build a reputation among flea lovers. But I was there yesterday to check it out and it was really depressing to be honest. Small space, few vendors, no music or innovation. But with time maybe. The good thing about that I went there was that I got to visit AP Café down the block. That was good!

I happened to be in the area for the open studios and bumped into this little collection of vintage/reused treasures. The Bushwick Flea is not the size of the Brooklyn Flea or as curated. However, it does have some fun vendors. I think if you come here and spend some time you can be going home with something unique and reasonably priced. If I would have left the husband and brother behind I myself may have found the treasure I was looking for. Even though when it comes to thrifting you never even knew you were looking for it. There was one stall that had rocker Venice Beach vibe to the stall. There was another who was giving bargains for her quirky brooches from Colorado. there was another stall with vintage designer items but a little out of my price range. I will definitely be returning and not leaving empty handed.
