Delightful little gem between Bourne and Wareham. Clean, shallow water, channel is only 10′ deep at mean high tide so no deep draught vessels. Cohasset Narrows bridge is fixed and low, so no masted vessels. Nice for swimming, shellfishing, shore fishing(striper/schoolies), kayaking, jestskiing, SUP and just messing about. Fresh water Red Brook empties into this bay after flowing some 5 miles from White Island Pond in Plymouth. This brook and surroundings are owned by the Trustees of Reservations and is home to the only remaining Sea Run Brook Trout spawning areas in the Northeast. Public beaches at Electric Ave in Bourne(resident permit required) and at Lyman Reserve in Bourne. No public beaches on Wareham side. Pretty muddy at low tide so plan swimming accordingly. My favorite place to swim is the channel between Buttermilk and Little Buttermilk(Gibbs Narrows). Crystal clear and the current will give you a Nantucket sleigh ride when tide is changing.
