My getaway on the weekends. Although highway patrol has been patrolling the Santa Monica Mountains recently so watch out. Bicycles are also on roads they shouldn’t be on. I mean what are you thinking biking in the canyons unless you intentionally want to get hit by a car? Bike somewhere else.

it’s a really nice, easy trail. although me and my friend started from the top the address it gives here is to the«backbonel trail and it starts at the top and you work your way down(hill) the trail and like another Unilocaler said, it drops you off right there on piuma. there’s little turn outs for parking on the street. it’s mostly shaded. im not sure where some people went but go here after rain! everything is so green! :) i agree its a great trail to take when winding down from your tiring day at work

I live close by and the views all around this area are just amazing on an international level. Keep driving around and come to watch amazing sunsets and moon nights that are stunning. Hiking is always a good way to relax and especially with these kind of views. Have fun.

Constant incline gets you out of the city in a jiffy! Great view for such convenient accessibility.

This is probably one of my favorite trails to hike. When you pull off to park there are 2 directions, down, at the end of the parking area and up, across the street. I like heading down. It’s short and sweet and is mostly shaded. Our dogs love this trail too. There’s a little creek that runs through at the bottom off to the side the the dogs like to play in. If you go all the way through it dumps you out onto one of the side streets off of Stunt Rd.

Not bad. This place is pretty popular at night. Basically you take this winding road to this look out point at the top of Stunt Road. Also, the people who drive up this road… all drive super fast. I was the passenger but we were going 50+ish and it’s a winding road… but these people were going at least 70ish… and they’re rude… so yeah… watch out for that. I’m actually surprised there aren’t more accidents here… since it’s super wind-y but oh well. Anyway… there are two lookout points. To the left, you can see all of the valley. It’s actually quite pretty. To the right, you can see Malibu and I think Camarillo. Also, if you go before it get’s dark… you can see a bit of the ocean… but it’s pretty at night. There are tons of cars here… so it’s not creepy… and it’s Calabasas… so… it’s not that creepy anyway… but I did here a whole bunch of noises in the bushes and after reading an article on Mountain Lions making a comeback… I freaked out and had to get back in the car. hahaha… but it’s a great place to just shoot the breeze and talk… and stare up at the night sky… without all the«light pollution». Awesome.

A mid-level hiking trail. Don’t take Grandma and her busted-ass hip to this trail, but for a nice hike through the Malibu mountains, this spot is solid. And yes, you can take your kids. ((*Parking and Location info are at the BOTTOMOFTHISREVIEW*)) VERY sparse amounts of hikers until afternoon, when the locals come home and walk to unwind. From time to time, you will run into folks on horseback, as horses are allowed on the trail. Bikes are NOT allowed, but that doesn’t stop the many folks I’ve seen that SOMEHOW ride this trail(which is home to many two foot boulders and sharp cutbacks). Within the first quarter mile or so, you will get to the creek, and then it’s pretty much all uphill from there. Nothing intense… you always have a clear trail. My twin brother used to play Airsoft here with his friends, and I’ve included a couple photos to give you the idea of the terrain. So, go score a sandwich at Malibu Kitchen and throw it into your daypack, then go hit the trail. It’s a great way to escape the city and enjoy some fresh air. PARKINGANDTRAV-DIRECTIONS: Parking is roadside, and make sure you park off the pavement… lotsa locals come through here pretty quick. The limited parking situation is my only problem with this spot, but I’ve ALWAYS found parking, as the hikers here are mostly folks who live nearby and don’t drive to the trail. The trail itself has been called a bunch of names, from«Backbone trail,» to «Stunt Road trail.» I don’t know, and honestly, I don’t care… But the address listed IS the spot that comes up on Google Maps as the trailhead.((And from satellite view, it is dead on)). If you know where the Saddlepeak Lodge is, just go past the restaurant, about a quarter mile/third mile up Piuma. The trail will be on your left side.
