Was a good home cooked meal. Definitely recommend if you are in sunset it’s closer than calabash of course. The food was good and service was very quick and the never let your glass get low. The prices were reasonable but not cheap. The atmosphere is good it’s a small place and very country. No need to dress up at all its close to beach so people come in swimwear. I will be back!

We’ve had our eye on this place for a while. My wife and I both get off at 5:00 M-F so it’s kind of hard for us to go during the week. However, we went last night(Monday night) at around 7:00 pm. They close at 7:30. We got seated at 7:25 and they still served us and treated us like they had just opened! The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I got the fried steak and gravy with mashed potatoes/gravy, sweet potato casserole and a sweet tea to chase it down. The food came out quickly and hot and fresh. After the first bite, I was hooked and knew this wouldn’t be my last trip to Gravy’s. The meat was so tender and it was all seasoned so deliciously! Their hush puppies are good too! If you get a chance, get here early(but that doesn’t help with wait times) and just enjoy being in a place that will serve you awesome food at an awesome price! Oh yeah, our 11 year old son ordered some sort of open faced hamburger steak smothered in gravy with mashed potatoes and he devoured every morsel(and I think he tried to eat the plate!).

This was our first visit, so I don’t know if tonight was am outlier… but it wasn’t a very good experience. The food was mediocre at best. The steak & gravy was tasteless and the pinto beans were no better. The mesquite grilled chicken was«mesquite» in name only. No flavor at all. On a positive note, the lima beans and buttered corn were good. Service was really fast, but the servers weren’t very pleasant. The prices were certainly good — maybe that’s the reason the place is always packed. Honestly, I just don’t get it. To each his own, I suppose.

Every Time I’m in Coastal Carolina, I do my best to stop by Southern Gravy. A spectacular small business that aims to please with down home southern style food that’s reasonably priced. This is as authentic as you will get for southern cooking, good prices, and friendly staff. I recommend anybody living, visiting, or passing through Calabash/Carolina Shores to eat at this place.

This place is really good! Every restaurant in Calabash brags that they have the«Best Seafood in Town!» But… the shrimp here is seriously the best I’ve had. We have lived in this area for many years and tried them all and it’s really good. The tomato salad is really good too! Not very good for large groups.

It was just ok. I ordered the fried chicken with gravy hold the rice. I got a thin piece of industrial chicken with no gravy. Had to ask for gravy. I ordered pinto beans and mashed potatoes as my side. No gravy on potatoes. Pintos had no flavor at all which shocked me because the website warns you that veggies are seasoned with meat. My hush puppies were like rubber which tells me they were microwaved. Sweet tea… not very sweet. Slow service, no smile, hard to get drink refill. Wanted to try peach cobbler but got tired of waiting for waitress. Then took 15 minutes to get our bill. 3 of us at 5pm on a Thursday in November. We won’t be back, which is a shame because we really wanted a nice home cooking place to frequent here.

Dinner for 10 last night and we were all happy. Best flounder ever. Great cucumber, tomato and onion salad, seafood platter immense. How can you beat a place that offers peach cobbler and pecan praline bread pudding as sides? Yummy. Small and popular, but so worth the wait. Pleasant staff.

The service and food are usually pretty solid here. It’s your standard meat and 3 kind of joint. The Monday special of turkey and stuffing was particularly good today. They also serve up hush puppies and my family likes the fried seafood. The veggies are cooked in meat seasonings which is a typical southern thing to do, but take note if that’s not your thing. Also, this place almost always has a wait.(And very limited waiting area indoors.) It’s a good family restaurant, overall.

We visited sunset beach and Gravy was highly recommended by the locals. Absolutely amazing food. We went back three times in the week we were staying. Salads are great. hush puppies a plus! The jumbo fried shrimp was also amazing! They serve a lot of food so be prepared to take home the leftovers. Highly recommended this restaurant.

Hidden gem of a restaurant! My family has went to nearby Sunset Beach for a long time and never been here, we decided to go last minute and were very pleased. Great food for extremely reasonable prices.

One of our must stops when we vacation in Carolina. Always a short wait but they get you in and out quickly and its light on the pocket book. Food is delicious. My personal favorite is the liver and onions. If you’re in area you have to go to Gravy.

I have family who lives locally and raves about Gravy. We finally got to go while visiting and we were NOT disappointed. The food was excellent and the portions for both kid’s meals and adult entrees were perfect for the price. Service was quick and our waitress was friendly. Our glasses of sweet tea were filled regularly and rarely went more than half empty before being topped off. We’ll be return customers on our travels next year!

Any place that has a 30 minute wait at 5pm mid-week must be worth the wait. We had the meatloaf special & liver & onions. Both were excellent with large portions for $ 9 Hush puppies were excellent. We did not have room for dessert but locals sitting at next table all ordered dessert to go/peach cobbler. Service was fantastic –possibly the best I have seen in many many years/hard workers

We showed up close to closing time and expected to get rushed out. Could not have been further from the truth. Servers were all very kind and eager to please. I ordered the pick two platter(shrimp and flounder) and my wife had the flounder. This was some of the best food we have in several years in this area. Definitely the best seafood in Calabash and Sunset. The seafood was fried to perfection. The outside crisp and the inside moist and juicy. The hush puppies were great too. The tartar and cocktail are house made and compliment to food perfectly. We also learned that chocolate delight and peach cobbler are considered vegetables!

Disappointing. Food from a can and freezer, reminded us of a school lunch. Abrupt service. It’s not a good value as the food is nothing special. We are local and do not understand why people line up to eat here. On the plus side: clean with a good location.

This place was conveniently located, the service and ambiance was nice. However, if you come here for the Southern Cookin’ keep lookin’ Better to keep it simple with Burgers and fries,
