A long time ago a man decided to buy a Volkswagen Golf. This man lived in Germany, where Volkswagen repair is taught in primary school, and serves as a requirement to graduate. Although this man bought his Golf with US specifications, he came to take for granted the ease of getting his automobile worked on. So imagine his culture shock finding out that local mechanics closed their doors to BMWs, Mercedes, VWs and Audis. Not with a 10 foot pole. But at the recommendation of my first choice in mechanics, Dolan’s garage was mentioned. So deciding that a drive from Columbus to Caledonia was much more preferable to a dealer in Birmingham(thanks Royal Automotive, for never answering my e-mails) it was decided to let somebody and their local garage work on my car. And boy was I pleasantly surprised with the result. Even from the first phone call, Jimmy at Dolan’s Garage just naturally inspired confidence in his knowledge of foreign cars. He answered my questions and reassured me that he could not only look at my car that next morning, but fix the laundry list of items I had asked to be looked at. Jimmy worked efficiently too, having my vehicle ready by the afternoon. When he handed the keys back, he even provided a print-out of my on-board computer and was willing to explain the results. We chatted about my car and he gave me useful and helpful information, explained with visuals everything he did, and jokingly chuckled that he «just went ahead and fixed» the issue with my hood latch I didn’t even talk to him about. What a guy. So far I’m loving the service I’ve gotten from Dolan’s. The elephant in the room is that this place might not be the best looking of all shops I’ve been to, but damn if they didn’t do great work. Best of all, the price was reasonable. I’m already positive I’ll be coming back.
