Good food… I remember going there as a kid and having yheir killer ceviche… However the place was a bit dirty(especially next to the windows)… And the prices! Omg… When did they get o expensive? The ceviche price is absurd… Tastes good but not THAT good… I think they prob increased prices after the outlets opened… Not sure… Pretty good homemade style mexican food but for a hefty price

By far, the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. Ceviche and carne asana are second to none.

It’s one of the best authentic Mexican food in town. The food is full of flavor and freshly made, I personally love the Ceviche de Camaron, Steak & Shrimp and Pollo Asado Plates. Price between $ 10 – 15 per person but well worth it. Highly recommend it.

I’m not Mexican but if I was, I’d eat here! This is legit food! The bacon-wrapped shrimp was outstanding. I also had the shrimp tacos… DELICIOUS! This is a small retro restaurant but the service was friendly and quick(but unhurried at the same time). The restroom was clean with hot water but no soap(hence 4 stars). Regardless, I’ll be back.

I’m sorry but I hope it’s because of one individual that the service was horrible, and a bit to expensive for the quality of the food. If anything I’m embarrassed to say this is authentic Mexican restaurant. So for this time I’m giving it 1 stars.

RPF has great food. Forget the negative reviews written by disgruntled employees or their agents. Rosa was a shrimp buyer years ago and she knows shrimp. The portions are too big. The prices may seem high for that reason. Good beans and sauce.

Amazing californian-Mexican food in a small border town. We drove a long way from Orange County and decided to stop here based on other Unilocal reviews, and I’m glad we did! I got the chicken salad and my boyfriend got a steak burrito plate. The plates were HUGE. Bigger than any salad I’ve ever had, I think. The chicken was marinated in wonderful spices — savory, peppery, salty — and grilled to perfection. The interior of the restaurant is kind of a randomly decorated strip-mall joint, so we decided to sit outside in the cool evening air. An entire avocado came with the plate. I hear that you can watch planes take off and land on the runway right by the restaurant but we didn’t see any. Oh well, next time!

The carne asada plates here are very good. This is probably one of the best places to eat in Calexico I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

This place is so overrated it’s ridiculous. The food is alright but it’s way overpriced and the service is the worst. I don’t understand people who agree that they have poor service and continue to go.

Food was ok but way overpriced. Carne Asada was flavorful but had lots of chewy chunks.

I have always been a fan of Rosa’s Plane Food for their excellent seafood and meat dishes, they do not scrimp on quality or on the huge portions. The shrimp chipotle quesadillas are awesome as are the shrimp stuffed chile rellenos. They use a real rib-eye and cook it carne asada style which is delicious! They recently remodeled the place so it is bigger than before and plus there are some tables looking out over the airstrip so you can watch private planes land and take off as they pass through the customs station there before entering the USA or Mexico. Their prices are a little higher than most Mexican food restaurants but they make up for it with quality and lots of food, you will be full when you leave! I also like that they bring you buckets of beer on ice so you can just help yourself to another one if you like! The service was excellent and friendly, very attentive.

Regular food, the kind of food you can cook yourself. Definitely not worth the price. They also charged their own amount; meaning, the amount I was charged at the restaurant was different from the final amount that was collected from my bank account. The service, your typical Imperial Valley, attitude filled, no good manners, way of treating people… HORRIBLE! I will never return and highly encourage everyone to avoid Rosa’s «PLAIN» Food at all cost. PS, carne asada looks like steak, eso no es Mexicano!

They mistreat their employees with delayed or reduced pay and even threaten with less hours is someone complains. Bad employer. Add that to the fact that the food and service only keeps getting worse with time and you are left with a bad restaurant. Ptsss. Want an insider tip? A lot of what they serve is pre-cooked and frozen(That’s why the food is often dry and tasteless). Yet they still take ages to bring the food to your table and charge exuberantly for it. How do i know this you may ask? My mom used to work there. She didn’t last two weeks. The owner is ruthless and un-attentive. People get hurt in that kitchen more often than not. It’s nothing short of a sweat shop. If there ever was a reason unions formed, the owner of this place is one. Surely this place has the legendary reputation of serving the best Mexican food north of the fence. I could vouch for that… 10 years ago! There’s nothing to hold that reputation anymore. Its gone, and sadly so. Half of the things on the menu are sugar-coated gruel, the other half will require you to take a second mortgage on your house. Are you a spoiled human and want to learn to appreciate a decent meal again? Do you want to give birth next time you use the toilet? Do you hate yourself? Or are you some sort of masochist? Then this is the place for you. Otherwise avoid for the sake of humanity. This place needs Jesus.

Rosa is a class act. Our party arrived hungry and tired. She brought out a spread that rivals the best Mexican food that I have had. She made us some machaca chimichangas, carne asada, guacamole, chicken and steak fajitas, chiles rellenos, beans, rice, and some bomb salsa. The next time in Calexico, I’m coming back.

VIsited the place after almost 10 years, this place could use some TLC to look good as new. Disappointed with food selection and prices, $ 25 for a carne asada plate in the valley? If the atmosphere or the customer service was perfect the I wouldn’t mind shelling out that amount of money. I’ve seen better customer service at a McDonald’s than this place. I went with my family and we had to wait a while to be served. Oddly a construction crew from the Calexico Outlet across the street came up and they immediately had a server in their table with salsas and menus. I feel the restaurant is trying to continue to satisfy their current customers but is not welcoming to new ones. Waiters don’t know what plates they offer and run around the kitchen and floor like a chicken without its head chopped off. I did not eat anything because I wanted to try their carne asada burritos and they said they did not have enough avocados for guacamole, really? You sell Mexican food and have no guacamole? yikes! I ate from my wife’s burrito and the carne was a tad salty and greasy so I’m glad I did not spend $ 10 on a plate that I was not going to enjoy. Improve your food, customer service, give your place some TLC and be welcoming to new people and you guys will do so much better!

A friend and I flew up here for a lesson and to try the carne asada. You will not be disappointed as it was, in my opinion, the best I’ve ever had. Also noteworthy was the homemade guacamole, salsa and chips which were amazing. Why only 4 stars? The service was a bit slow. So as long as you go there with nothing to do afterwards it will be fine. 2 carne asada plates, 2 drinks, and guac came to $ 28.75. If you ask for water, they’ll give you bottled($ 2.50) so just get a fountain drink.

Walk through the gate to the runway of the Calexico International Airport — no need to pass through customs — and turn left into Rosa’s. I was invited here for a most unusual business dinner, and it was fantastic. Our host ordered for everyone and we ate family style, so I never actually saw a menu. We had, in this order: chips/salsa/guacamole, shrimp ceviche, shrimp wrapped in bacon and cheese, «angus top sirloin» carne asada, and what someone said was a filet but looked more like tri tip. In any event it was all delicious and served with copious amounts of ripe avocado. Plus rice and beans. The carne asada, one of my favorite foods, was as good as I have ever had anywhere and the ceviche was also terrific. The filet was also delicious but I personally prefer carne asada so I didn’t waste too much real estate on the filet. The only thing I didn’t really get into was the shrimp wrapped in bacon and cheese. I’m sure it was good for what it was, but that was just a little over the top for me. I was kept isolated from and thus never interfaced with prices, but our host said this huge feast for 4 large men with leftovers sufficient for another 4, plus 5 bottles of beer, was around $ 60. Your mileage may vary. Service was warm and friendly. We all got hugs and kisses from the wait staff on our way out. Note: one of the pictures shows it closed on Tuesday. This can’t be right, because I was there on a Tuesday. You need not be put off by Rosa’s unconventional choice for a restaurant name. Plane food? Maybe next she will open a record/cd store called«Rosa’s Elevator Music». If she does, I’ll be there to try it next time I’m in Calexico.
