We always get right in without having to wait and we always come with large groups. We usually come with my son’s baseball team or my daughter’s softball team and we are able to get group seating. Salad/soup bar is always fresh. The tortilla and broccoli cheese soups are always delicious. We always splurge and share the hot fudge cake with ice cream for dessert. The manager goes out of his way to make us feel welcome. This is our«go to» place when we play tournaments in the area.

I get here about twice a year on our way to Arizona and have never been disappointed with any aspect of my visit. The service is fantastic… and the red relish is to die for. Flavored teas are very delightful too.

Why does anyone stop at Bob’s Big Boy? The vintage appeal, reliving a fond childhood memory. The service was great, the restaurant is fun, and the food was okay until… If you have a sensitivity to MSG, you know exactly what it is when you get it. I happen to be a lot more sensitive than your average bear. So when the msg headache, face swelling and tongue swelling set in, it was unmistakeable. What had it in? I’m not sure. We ordered the burger combo(fries and salad). Why they need to add it is beyond me. It’s fun to take pictures with the giant Bob statue but if you have food allergies, he suddenly becomes a bit sinister.

A nice little oasis on our way back to Phoenix from Northern California. The restaurant was clean, service was prompt and friendly, and the breakfast buffet was adequately stocked and tasty. I would certainly consider stopping here again on my way through.

Food: Other locations are good, but the food at this location is terrible. I ordered breakfast and a waffle to split with my dad. The breakfast plate was mushy and bland. The waffle was disgusting. It tasted like the batter was old or like they dont clean their waffle iron. Service: A bunch of kids. Waitresses didnt know the menu very well. Got the order wrong, but we just went with it. The cashier struggled with giving correct change. Completely under par. Dont waste your money. Just go to Dennys. Its down the street.

Stopped here for a quick lunch while traveling on the 10 freeway. Food and service was ok. Nothing outstanding. The place was packed and they were doing their best. I had the Big Boy Combo and loved the red relish similar to the Big Boy in Burbank. The breakfast bar looked interesting. May try it if I am ever here again.

Wow No wonder there are so few Bob’s Big Boys around cause they are over priced and have so so service… My girl ordered a BBLT and it was mostly lettuce and cheap bacon. Look at the pic … Crazy, such a shame…

I tried this place again earlier this month on a run to the border. I got the fried chicken again and it was good. This time they did not throw my food away nor clean the table before I was finished. People were nice, food fairly quick, and I was on my way. The extra chicken I took in a box was good several hours later. So there is the extra star over last review.

We all have bad days. Days that are so bad, that the only reasonable option is to go home, lock door, draw the shades, and wait till the earth’s rotation brings about a new day to try again. And when that’s not an option, just a sliver of kindness and or compassion can brighten your day, or even change your life. The day began mostly like any other, a good day to take a long ride to Primm Nevada, have some breakfast and maybe a roller-coaster rider or two at Buffalo Bills, then head home. But as the saying goes, if you want to hear a good laugh, tell God what your plans are for the day. When I reached Barstow, and had stopped to gas up, I spied the incoming traffic moving at a snail’s pace from my intended destination. I then remembered that it was Memorial Day, and this was going to be like this until well late into the evening. So instead, I switched to «Plan B» which was to be a cool, scenic ride back to Los Angeles utilizing Route 66, and the San Gabriel Mountains. Unfortunately, I missed a critical turning point, and went careening, care-free into the Mojave Desert. IT wasn’t until I was well past the point of no-return that I realized the critical error I had made, and was left with no choice, but to continue to Yucca Valley, and make my way home, along the 10; Easy, right? Usually, yes– except it was Memorial Day, and traffic on the 10 is just as bad as it is on the 15, and In some places, worse. Splitting lanes, worked my way to Cabazon, where I thought I would grab breakfast at the Morongo Casino. Again– Memorial Day; the place was packed. The food courts, buffet, and outlying restaurants had lines and were literally standing room only. There was no choice but to keep going down the road, splitting lanes all the way to Calimesa, and spied the welcoming Big Boy sign ahead in the distance. Pulling into the parking lot, I noticed that there were a lot of semi-trucks, and motorcycles– a sign that good food was inside– even if it was a chain restaurant. Inside, I was quite impressed with how spacious the layout is. The hostess almost immediately welcomed me, and had me sat in a booth inside the solarium. At first, I was expecting to be roasting, due to the 3PM heat, but found it to be amazingly comfortable. Being that it was well-beyond the 11:00 cutoff for the breakfast buffet(not to mention that everything had been cleared, and replaced with a salad buffet), I opted to order off the menu, which I was not looking forward to, as that I knew a burger like a double-decker with fries would sit like a rock in my stomach. So it was a pleasant surprise to find that the breakfast menu had been included, and was served around the clock. After ordering the standard road-fare breakfast, I took a few moments to observe my surroundings: clean, sanitary, and very well maintained, with the exception of the men’s bathroom, in which someone had ripped the soap dispenser off the wall sometime earlier that day. Now, considering that this location is essentially a roadside diner, this is a rarity. Not that there’s anything wrong with greasy spoons, but sometimes, it’s nice to have good surroundings after a long run. The best test of a restaurant staff’s mettle is always during a hard and heavy rush, and there is no harder rush for a Southern California eatery alongside the freeway, than Memorial Day Sunday, when everyone is hot, aggravated, wants to get home, and will take their frustrations out on hapless wait staff who are just doing their jobs; ‘I ordered this food ten minutes ago, what took you so long! How come you didn’t include more butter on my table? And what’s all this shit in my gravy? This isn’t how my mother makes it. And why don’t these taste like Bisquick biscuits? Fuck you, I ain’t tipping.‘ You get the idea. With a restaurant filled to capacity with these kind of attitude jackasses, the server staff all had genuine smiles, and did their very best. In the face of such adverse conditions, that says a lot. But let’s talk for a moment as to why someone would go here in the first place: the food. There’s really no getting around it: its standard American Fare served in a chain restaurant. But as far as chains of this type go, given the choice, I’d rather eat here then at, say, Denny’s, or Ruby’s, IHOP, or any other establishments too numerous to mention. The food is This is a place to stop at, if you are on the 10, hungry, or just simply need a coffee break.

The Big Boy cheeseburger totally reminds me of my childhood. I remember running up to the Big Boy statue and kissing him, when I was little. Now that I’m a grownup, I get nostalgic. I was thinking I was making a mistake, and would be disappointed, but no. The burger was good, and unlike fast food burgers, it did not upset my stomach. The fries were also good, and my boyfriend enjoyed his chicken plate. I just wish we had room for the hot fudge brownie sundae that I remember loving. Oh well, next time.

I always get a bit nostalgic when passing Bob’s; I live in the Coachella Valley and for many years, we had Bob’s in Indio but it closed and has since become a Mexican restaurant. We ended up here tonight because we were trying to catch some of the last snow, for a while, up in Oak Glen. Initially we went to Yucaipa to try Angus McGurdy’s, but it was packed. It’s always a toss up for us: Bob’s or Baker’s on the way back home to the Dirty Desert. Today we chose Bob’s. It’s decent for what it is: a Denny’s equivalent. Food is okay, comes out quick, and the employees are very friendly.

So many memories of Southern California Bob’s Big Boys from decades ago: Culver City in the current Jefferson Boulevard Coco’s location and Wilshire near Highland, both favorites of a late friend. My father used to lunch at a Bob’s in Indio where he’d grab a free, jejune«Adventures of Big Boy» comic book to augment my collection. The chain began its descent in the late ‘80s, its owner declared bankruptcy in 2000, and few locations remained in the region until new owners revived the brand, including a trio of new properties in Calimesa, Norco and Diamond Bar. The servers at Calimesa’s branch are a lively bunch, and they wait on waves of various and sundry motorists at this centrally located eatery in the middle of nowhere; the gateway to Riverside, San Bernardino and Cabazon/Morongo Casino/Palm Springs. Entrees were fish and chips(loaded mashed potatoes substituted) and«The Best Cheeseburger on the Planet,» always a recipe for disappointment because you’ll likely recall a better one enjoyed at some backyard cookout. French fries were less than hot, which shifted full attention to the workmanlike, nearly half-pound burger. Fish coating was fried crispy, and the loaded mash was hot enough to turn the cheese inside stringy and gooey. The highlight of the dinner was our server, who promptly refilled coffee and water, and who must have electronically bugged our table because she delivered the check that included the dessert we planned to order before we ordered it: «Classic Hot Fudge Ice Cream Cake.» Sit-down dining options on this stretch of I-10 may vary in value and food quality, but the servers and crowd at Bob’s Big Boy set it apart as a fascinating slice of life.

Eating at Bob’s Big Boy is like waking up on Christmas morning as a kid! That special familiar feeling as you bite into an original Big Boy burger served with fries and a chocolate shake. That is after finishing the salad with Thousand Island dressing, This is not a fancy place. This is not a upscale place. This is the place where memories are made when we bring our kids and now grand kids. Seriuosly now they could put some money into the place and fancy it up some. It is looking old and dated. It is clean inside and the food is tasty. If it wasn’t for my memories with Bob’s I would not make a special trip to eat here but would rather do it as an easy on and off the freeway place. If you eat here save room for the hot fudge cake(brownie with vanilla ice cream covered in hot fudge sauce and topped with whipped cream).

I really like this Bob’s Big Boy, I’ve been to the one in Moreno Valley(not so great, but Okay) and this one is always been a good experience and good food, great service. Breakfast is really nice, they have a buffet to choose from, includes salads or you can order to your liking. All kinds of people and yes it can get busy crowded, but they do get you in fast and out fast. There is much variety on their menu! Choices for all and healthy conscience and vegan options too. Also creative choices too, not too out of the ordinary, but some creativity there. It’s right off the freeway too! I do love how they are very diverse in their hiring practices and give the opportunity to all people, the beautiful sweet young lady they have hosting there not only gives excellent service each time, but she’s such an inspiration and has such strength and beautiful spirit! The other perk is you get two chances of taking pictures of Bob, lol they have two statutes; one on the outside and one in the inside, so it’s fun to do that and you know your going to post it on Facebook or IG anyways! We did! I’m a fan and I love coming here.

Passing through, thought we would give breakfast a try. The place was deserted, maybe 3 people inside and in desperate need of a paint job. Inside, the place is clean, but could use some touching up but certianly not awful. We opted for the breakfast buffet. $ 9.98 each and like grandma always says, you get what you pay for. It wasn’t good. It wasn’t the worst thing I’ve eaten, but it wasn’t good. They had eggs made several ways, the same for potatoes, lots of proteins to choose from and the usual pancakes, french toast, etc. plus a little fresh fruit. The fruit was, by far, the best the menu had to offer. On a side note, my iced tea was fantastic. I’m sure Bob’s Big Boy does some things well. However, the breakfast buffet isn’t one of them.
