LOVE this place! Love the staff. They know how to make someone feel very welcome. No snobbery whatsoever. GREAT Hidden gem.

Fun, fun, fun! The gentlemen that operate this establishment are super nice, educational, and entertaining. I’ve heard that people are told to save this place for last because it does have a party atmosphere. We showed up at 10:30am and my husband and I were 2 of 4 people in the tasting room. We received amazing service and were gifted our own musical performance. They are gifted musicians and wine makers. Don’t save it for last! Start your day off right and bring them coffee and donuts :) They have a great variety of wine and the Pinot Noir is pretty great!

One of my favorite places! Rolled in early, very welcoming. Poured an extra taste and got serenaded by one of the employees. Casual and fun place to go!

Very nice, chill and friendly place. The tasting was quite good but the wine was out of our budget. Most important: very dog-friendly. Tora was allowed inside and the had good treats.

Beautiful day for a ride on our Harley, looked to Unilocal to find us a place to wine taste, we chose Lava vine based on its Unilocal rating, unfortunately past reviewers hadn’t visited this tasting room arriving on a motorcycle. We were made aware as soon as we walked up to the tasting counter that«bikers» weren’t welcome. It’s a shame that prejudice is alive at lava vine

Been here twice and really enjoy the whole experience! It is probably one of the most unpretentious, chill, and fun tasting rooms with great wines! Dogs are welcome(big plus), the staff is musical and has a good sense of humor! And when they’re not playing live music, they have a pretty good playlist which includes Joy Division — love it! Some of my faves here are their cab, Pinot, port, and late harvest Riesling. I even got to wax seal my own bottle of port! You can enjoy your own food outside at their picnic tables in the sun with some yummy wine. Can’t wait to go again!

Awesome experience. They accommodated a party of 9 last minute and the guys are super funny. Tastings are $ 15 but waived with purchase of a bottle. Their petite sirah is really good. Good find!

Definitely amazing with a really fun hipster vibe, this was one of our favorite spots. It was my husband’s and I anniversary and when they found out the quickly got out their guitar and started singing a song for us, there were also a few more couples that started getting in the mood and after the first song we all started singing everyone’s request. The tasting was only $ 10 and if you buy a bottle it’s free.

Country, shabby chic bar feel. Hipster vibe– the servers broke out the guitar and banjo and entertained guests with songs mid tasting. Our server was knowledgeable about wine and a story teller regarding both the history of wine country as well as his journey moving there from Brooklyn. Tastings included a mix of white/red with a dessert wine for $ 15. This was refunded with our purchase of a bottle. After an entertaining tasting, we took our bottle out to the picnic tables and soaked up some California sun. Lovely day.

We really wanted to like these wines, since we had heard about it from several different people during or trip. We made the drive all the way to Calistoga for it. The guys are super nice, really great guys, but it just is not our style of wine. The grounds were kind of trashy, and the whole ambiance just didn’t thrill us. As for the wines, the Petit Syrah was good, but way overpriced for what it was(good, not great). The Port was way too sweet, almost like syrup(we like a nice tawny). The whites were terrible. Nothing was big and bold, and nothing lingered. Sip, swish, swallow, and it’s gone. They say they go for balance, but for us it just fell flat.

If you want to go to a winery that’s laid back and has great wines and the nicest tasting room staff(who actually spend time with you and explain the food/wine pairings), this is the place to go. My friend from Denver recommended it while we were in the Napa area. I’m fortunate we had the time to make the stop. The classic rock being played in the background was a great addition to the ambiance. The Verdejo was my favorite wine. I typically opt for reds but this was a delightful surprise. I’m glad it rained as much as it did while we were at Lava Vine because it gave us an excuse to sit back and enjoy the atmosphere.

I purchased the Napa Valley winter wine pass which includes about 15 wineries. We had never been to Lava Vine but boy am I glad we stopped here. It was a little hard to find, our gps led us astray. The winery itself is small; a small tasting room on the right and larger room to the left with a stage. The gentlemen that worked here were so not your typical winery servers. They were really relaxed and super chill. We had a nice conversation and didn’t feel rushed at all even though it started to get busy. They found out it was my husbands birthday and pulled down the instruments that were hanging all over the walls and played a song which was pretty amazing! Turns out they are all in a band together. We bought some wine and enjoyed a picnic lunch outside on the picnic table enjoying an amazing view. We will be back for sure!

Cute hipster spot with cheap tastings. Reminds me a lot of the various tasting rooms in the funk zone in Santa Barbara as the décor is kind of funky and the workers here are all a bit younger than at the other tasting rooms and wineries. Wines were all good; I especially loved the cab franc and the port. A nice place to visit to chill out.

If you like live music while you sip wine, this is your spot! Definitely gets an A for effort and ambiance. The tastings were reasonable at $ 10 and they are fairly generous with the pours. I loved hanging out there with a glass of port, listening to them jam, and watching the kiddos and doggies pacing around in the wine room. It truly feels like you’re there with family.

An amazing find in the heart of Calistoga. This place has a fun, relaxed, hipster vibe. It is only $ 10 to taste and it is refunded with a purchase. The wines are very good, we loved the Viognier and the Cab Franc. The dessert wine was not bad. They allow dogs which is nice, and they were blasting some great music. Since most places are now $ 30 to taste, stuffy, and overhyped, Lava Vine was a breath of fresh air. Will be back!

This place is a quiet hidden gem. It’s not really hidden, but it is a small spot with the tasting room in the back. The staff were all nice and friendly… easy going. Which makes wine tasting more fun than it already is. We even got a short concert when we were there, us and the other 10 people tasting that day. Their wines are good and price points weren’t bad so taking a few bottles home doesn’t hurt the pocket book too much. They are dog friendly so we had some four legged friends joining during our wine tasting. Overall a pleasant laid back spot for good wine tasting and banter. If Calistoga wasn’t so far away i would be picking up wine on a regular occasion… mind you i’m too cheap to join a wine club… plus Napa Valley trips are an excuse to get out of the house. It’s not the same if the wine already comes to you, what’s your excuse then?

This was a very friendly and welcoming place. There appeared to be a room with musical instruments too but we missed out on that entertainment. Whilst you still had to pay for your tastings they were generous and you could sit inside or out. Sitting outside the ducks and chooks(hens) became curious and wanted to be friendly. What did catch our eye was a sculpture on the neighbouring property. Unfortunately, we didn’t buy any wine as it wasn’t to our taste.
