My car broke down on my way to work, so I had to push it into a parking lot nearby. After doing a couple cursory tests, I decided to just have the shop literally next door take a look at it. I walked to 100′ or so from where my car sat to where the shop was located. I gave them the keys and requested them to look at the car. They went and got the car, towed is the 100′ or so to their shop, looked at it and noticed that the timing belt snapped, which is a $ 27.99 part from Auto Zone. They replaced the timing belt, which is a simple job that takes about 2 minutes, max, to install. So, including the 100′ tow, diagnostic, and actually replacing the belt you’re looking at 15 minutes, max, to repair the vehicle. When I got the bill I was flabbergasted not only to see that they charged $ 290.00 for parts ($ 27.99) and labor (2 minutes max). 290 – 27.99=262.01. That being the case, not counting the tow because they towed the bill separate, the 5 minutes it took to diagnose and repair the car means that they are charged $ 1,048.04 an hour in labor. This is ridiculous price gouging, as the job should have cost, including the 100′ tow, $ 100.00, maybe $ 125.00, max. On top of all of this, the held the car 2 days to do this simple job. On top of all of this, they were the rudest bunch of persons one could ever meet.
