«Woohoo! As good as it gets!» indeed! Favorite eatery in Greater Boston right here. I love a good lobster roll but you know what’s even better? An Alive & Kicking lobster sandwich! They use two slices of freshly-baked Scala bread(which is delivered every day from a local bakery) and a ton of lobster meat in their sandwiches. Their prices are beyond reasonable and they are always super friendly.

So good. As a lover of lobster rolls, I can’t believe it took me so long living in the Boston area to know about this place. I went here last summer and got the sandwich. I was thrown by the fact that it is a sandwich and not a roll, but it turns out this does not detract from the deliciousness. The portion of lobster in the sandwich is generous, it tastes super fresh, and is not over seasoned. Can’t wait to go back this year.

Best lobster sandwich my husband and I have had. The location is not so great. Zero parking and the picnic tables turned up on their side so there was no place to sit.

Overall experience was just alright. I came here on a Sunday for lunch. You first have to order your food at the cashier, grab a seat quickly because seating is limited, and then wait for you number to be called when the food is ready. The place is very small and the outdoor seating(which is part of the parking lot) consists of four picnic tables which you share with other people. They only had three things on the menu(all very pricey) so I ended up getting the lobster sandwich. We waited about 15mins for the food and for $ 17 it was not filling at all and just not very tasty. It’s a place to bring visitors from out of town but otherwise I don’t think it’s worth making the trip all the way here.

The lobster here was undoubtedly fresh, but very flavorless. I felt like I paid so much for basically nothing. I also miss the yummy and buttery brioche bread of your typical lobster roll… the sandwich bread kinda threw me off. All in all, I wouldn’t say it was bad but it most definitely wasn’t great. Pretty average!

I’ve been craving a lobster roll for awhile so I decided to come to Alive & Kicking Lobsters because it’s close by and because of all the great reviews. Let me tell you, this place is pretty hard to find! It looks like a house so it blends in with the other houses on the street. I circled around a couple times before I actually found it. Another downside is that there is no parking. There’s only permit parking for residents in that area. There are a couple of spots in their driveway for customers but those spots are most likely going to be taken. I ended up parking at Whole Foods and walking over(shhh! Don’t tell anyone) They give a pretty decent amount of lobster in their sandwiches. There is no filler… Just lots of lobster meat! The sandwich had the perfect ratio of mayo to lobster. The lobster wasn’t drowning in mayo so you could really taste the freshness of it. My only complaint about the sandwich was the bread it was on. It was toasted and pretty hard around the crust. I’m not sure if it was buttered or not because I couldn’t taste the butter(but maybe that’s a good thing!) The sandwich would be so much better if they used fresher bread. I was really looking forward to trying their clam chowder but sadly they didn’t have any. I’ll just have to come back another day.

This place is a MUST if you are in Boston and looking for fresh and delicious! We had the bisque, whole steamed lobster and the sandwich. It was not a roll and the toasted bread was perfect for the huge chunks of lobster! No fillers, just great tasting lobster meat. We went about 1:30 on a Wednesday and I think they were backed up from the lunch rush so we had to wait about 20 minutes for the sandwich. We just sat at a picnic table and enjoyed the day so it was no big deal. We are at a fancy restaurant for dinner this same evening and the lobster roll didn’t even hold a candle to Alive and Kicking’s sandwich!

My family and I came here for lunch since they were staying at the nearby Courtyard hotel. Could have walked, but didn’t. Make sure you don’t miss it on your first drive-by, as it is a small blue house that looks like part of the street at first glance. We ordered three of the famous lobster sandwiches, bottled drinks, and a clam chowder. Everything was delicious, but I’m not sure it was worth over $ 60. Glad I got to try it but not sure I’ll be back.

If you want lobster and want to avoid a huge line and pay less than exorbitant rates, this is your spot. Alive and Kicking is basically a small shack where you walk in and order and then go outside and sit in the outdoor picnic area. Some tables have umbrellas to give you shade. There is also a outdoor sink area to wash your lobster hands after eating. I ordered a lobster and some clams to go from here. I had some issues with the woman taking my order. She misunderstood me and charged me for an additional item I didn’t want. But when I pointed out her mistake, she quickly corrected her error. My lobster was tasty. It was on the smaller side for $ 19.95 though. The clams were tasty and fresh. I would def come back here for a lobster roll or even another lobster. In my opinion, this place is a hidden gem that I hope not too many people find out about because I want to eat my lobsters in peace!

I feel awful not giving us more stars but the food just didn’t do it for me!!! I got the sandwich and their seafood gumbo. Both were just ok! Appreciated that the sandwich had lots of lobster meat but it wasn’t sweet and almost seemed like imitation crab. Maybe it’s just the lobsters this season??? The gumbo was also just pretty standard — could’ve told me it was any type of gumbo and I wouldn’t have known the difference. I could see this place being awesome in summer on a warm day. It’s a cute little house tucked away in a neighborhood. I have a feeling it has unique zoning — it definitely doesn’t fit in with the rest of the houses and apartments in the neighborhood! I think the owners may live on the top above the establishment. The shop itself is more of a counter operation. You just walk up place your order and you can grab a drink or something else from their fridge or freezer. The only seating is outside on picnic benches. So the cold April day didn’t really help!!! I’d be willing to give this place another shot — perhaps it was an off day for the sandwich. My meal in total was about $ 30 and just didn’t hit the mark.

Really love the Lobster Sandwich that they sell here, but the two bread slices served with the sandwich are pretty plain. The sandwich itself is bursting with fresh lobster meat, which is what it’s known for — given that much meat, how could the sandwich not be delicious? :) Since it’s a cold sandwich, the two toasted bread slices didn’t feel as fresh, a bit stale even. If they just switch out the bread slices with something freshly baked, I’m sure this sandwich would be the best in Boston. Also, I do think the portion size is a bit small(about the size of a music CD), so maybe order an additional item on the menu if you’re really hungry. The Steamers are pretty decent and come with butter sauce. They make a good addition to your order, but I probably wouldn’t order them as a standalone item because there aren’t that many. There’s a steady crowd during weekend lunch times, but the line is very speedy and short. The tables are outside, which makes for a great lunch time spot on a sunny day!

Alive and Kicking is a little gem introduced to me by a family friend from the area. In what basically amounts to the first floor of a standard duplex, this joint serves seafood, both to take home and prepared dishes. We all settled on a lobster sandwich and one of their sodas they have in the fridge. There was no line for ordering, but our sandwiches took about 10 minutes to make. When you first see them wrapped up in aluminum they remind you of the little sandwiches your mom used to pack for you in kindergarten. But unwrap that sucker and you’ll find heaps of lobster meat piled inside your sandwich. This place does not cheap you out on your fill of lobster, and you feel slightly better that someone just treated you to an 15+ dollar sandwich. Is it something I’d be eating all the time if I lived around here? No. But is it something that I would not regret trying and met every expectation of a great lobster sandwich of the Northeast? Yes… yes it is.

Hole in the wall mom and pop style place. No indoor seating and outdoor seating is limited so can get crowded. Food: 1. Lobster was fantastic. Really meaty and terrific. The lobster sandwich was also awesome. Its a cold sandwich but not sure if they have the hot option. 2. Clams– soooo these are the reason i cant give this place 5 stars. There is tons of sand in the clams, which even with washing didnt really help a whole lot. Some people just ate through it, a lot couldnt do it. The flavor and the quality of the clams themselves are great, but the incredible overabundance of sand made it a little unbearable. Really unfortunate bc otherwise they were very juicy and plump. 3. Their bottled soda drinks are great. I had the cream soda which was awesome.

I had the lobster sandwich. It was just ok. It’s just two toasted white bread slices(which I personally thought should be buttered) with TONS of lobster inside(the only pro of the sandwich). I’ve definitely had better lobster rolls in the past. However the steamed clams/muscles was so fresh and so delicious dipped in steaming hot butter. You will definitely get fresh seafood here for an affordable price!

Great small shop that you would likely pass right by if you weren’t looking for it! They have delicious fresh seafood with great customer service! The lobsters are big and full of meat and taste like they’re plucked right out of the sea. This is perfect if you’re willing to get down and dirty with your food. If you order a full lobster, it comes in a giant plastic tray and lots of paper towels so you can clean up. Looking for a drink to wash the lobster down? Alive & Kicking bottles their own iced tea!

Don’t blink, you’ll miss the spot. This is a small shop that really looks more like a deli than a place to get an amazing lobster sandwich. Yes, sandwich. They put their freshly cooked lobster between two slices and not on a roll. But don’t worry, the lobster is so tender and sweet, and the chunks so big — you won’t notice. And they don’t skimp, they load it up! Also, if you’re a bisque guy, get it. Bomb. I’ve had maybe four or five lobster roll experiences in Boston and this might be the favorite. Great spot.

Lobster Sandwich(not roll) of dreams. Fresh, chunky lobster meat, light mayo, and two slices of toasted, slightly buttered bread. Simple, but Alive & Kicking makes the sandwich that Legal Sea Foods can only dream of creating, partially because it’s just your plain and simple neighborhood backyard spot. So grab a spot in the slow moving line, snag a spot at a picnic table after ordering, fill up some cups with water, and wait for your name to be called when your food is ready. Do get the Lobster Sandwich. Get a Fresh Lobster too while you’re at it. The prices are good and it doesn’t get much better than this. I would’ve given 5 stars, but the wait to order and for the food is deliriously long. Long, but still worth it. I’ve found my favorite lobster spot in Boston.

Middle of nowhere kinda joint that sells fresh seafood and lobster deliciousness. It’s a no thrills or frills kinda place, but sometimes those are the type of establishments you want. — 1.5 pound lobster for $ 13. Now that is pretty cheap. Fresh, meaty and lots of flavor. — Lobster sandwich is as plain and simple as it can get. Chunks of lobster meat including the claw and tail lightly mayo-ed. Two simple pieces of toasted white bread. After the first bite, you’ll swear it feels like a midnight snack your mom decided to scrap together out of the fridge. But you’ll start to appreciate this very simplex product is refreshing and delicious. If you need the bathroom, it’s inside the office next to the spices sitting on top of a wooden plank. You will be royalty.
