Le Couturier House of Alterations

This is now my go-​to tailor. Their customer service prompted me to leave this review (I don’t leave many Unilocal reviews). A few months ago I gave them some men’s pants that needed hemming and some others that needed taking in (wanted to make my old khakis «skinny» style rather than buy new ones). They did a fantastic job, so last week I gave them two suits to be altered (jacket and pants both). One suit needed to be done in only five days so I could wear it to a formal dance. They did it on time and even made an extra, same-​day adjustment when I said it needed more tweaking. The suit looks incredible.

I had a great experience here. I had a floor-​length gown that I wanted taken up by about 6 inches since it was too long for me. I visited 3 or 4 other tailor shops in Harvard and Central Square and received quotes ranging from $ 45-​$ 60. Le Couturier quoted me only $ 40, so I decided to give them a try. They were efficient and professional, and I received my gown back with the hem at exactly the right length. Their prices seem to be the most reasonable compared to all of the other tailor services around the area.
I took off one star because I was told on the day I visited that the alterations would take 7 – 10 days, and that I would receive a call when they were done. I never received a call and ended up calling myself after 2 weeks, at which point I was told the dress was ready to be picked up.
I will definitely use them again if I need anything else altered!

Great job on multiple suits and pants. Pricing is quite fair unlike at other establishments in Boston. Very pleased with the quality of the work. One tip: they prefer cash for smaller charges (e.g. $ 10 for basic pants hemming) which I can understand.
There was one occasion where a pair of pants didn’t come out the way I’d requested. The owner offered to re-​do it by the next day. Was pleased with the results.
Recommendation to the owners: would be nice to post prices for basic alterations.

I needed a suit altered within a week (procrastination on my part), and Le Couturier was able to deliver 2 days ahead of schedule. Not only did it fit perfectly, the price was more than reasonable — I am very please with their service. Parking might be tricky for those of us who are out of reach of public transportation, but the inconvenience is well worth it.

Staff and owner are friendly, efficient, and talented. I came in looking like a fabric monster bridesmaid thanks to another seamstress a friend recommended — it was hemmed too short, nothing aligned/​even, horrible stitch work everywhere, and it took her 4 weeks to create it, leaving me half a week before the wedding to fix it. I came in for the bare minimal thinking not even magic can rescue it. They took less than 24hr hours to transform it into what the original vision was and now I’m just sitting in the lobby waiting for finishing touches! The fix isn’t cheap but it was necessary and pricing for the rescue is fair.

I came here to get my wedding dress altered. I bought it online and it was a tiny bit short. After discussions with Mr. Robasson, we decided it would be best to find matching lace to other lace appliques on the dress. I did some searching and came back a few weeks later with many pieces of lace. Mr. Robasson did a perfect job of layering the lace on the bottom edge of the dress to lengthen it ever so slightly. When complete, you couldn’t tell that the lace was not originally part of the dress. I also requested a bustle be added to the dress. I had originally wanted a French bustle but after trying for at least 20 minutes, Mr. Robasson suggested a more traditional bustle, which looked amazing! I got many, many compliments on my dress at the wedding. Mr. Robasson was always professional, ready with my dress as discussed and fair with his price. I’ll definitely be back for future alterations.

They did a perfect job tailoring my inexpensive Kenneth Cole suit on short notice for a wedding. I still get compliments on how perfectly it fits me. I don’t know a thing about suits so I didn’t know what to expect. But they took care of me and now I won’t go anywhere else.

These guys a thieves!!! Never go here. I rarely write a Unilocal review and only come here if I really like a place or really hate it. These guys charge differently everytime you go there. A simple pant trimming can cost between 15 to 20 dollars here while everywhere else its just 10 dollars. They are very unprofessional, I dont recommend anyone to go there!

I trust Dick Robasson 100%! He knows what’s he’s doing and just found himself yet another loyal customer. He’s the best! He has tailored my suits, skirts, dresses, sweaters– he can do it all.
Just a note– In July & August, he is closed on Saturdays.

After encountering Dick Robasson once, and feeling his knowing and seasoned hands fit a suit on me, I knew that I’d found a tailor that I would be loyal to. He’s made my suits, neither of which cost more than $ 300, fit as if they’d been tailor made. He’s also extremely accommodating, and will make sure that you walk out there a happy customer.
One thing to note is that you normally have to wait 10 days to get your clothes back, so I wouldn’t recommend this for anything that you need soon.

I was pretty excited to come here based on the fact that it has so many positive reviews. I came in a couple months ago to have a beloved ($ 500+) 8-​year old long wool military style coat re-​lined and slightly taken in. I was charged $ 95 for the service. I noticed immediately that the stitching pattern done on the part of the coat taken in didn’t match the rest of each seam that it was a part of, which was weird, but the gentleman assured me that that’s how the coat was originally. I felt unsure at that point so just went with it. Sadly, I decided after taking it home that I was disappointed in the quality of the lining fabric — it was very thin and not nearly as nice as the lining original to the coat. And I noticed that the pockets had NOT actually been re-​lined at all — they were the original lining, which was in tatters and had holes in each pocket. Sigh. It gets worse. I looked closer and noticed that the stitching on the sleeves — which was a nice prominent thick black embroidery against the dark charcoal grey wool sleeves — had come loose. Within a couple of days, ALL of the sleeve stitching was hanging clearly away from the coat, and I had to just pull it out and cut it off. They must have severed the ends of all of the embroidery when they re-​lined the sleeves. I felt pretty devastated, but didn’t want to make a fuss about it with Le Couturier. I decided to just never go back, and accept my coat for what it is. Not one to leave out the positives, I will say that they tightened all the buttons voluntarily, and the coat does fit nicely.
BUT then a few weeks later I scored a really cool romper on major sale that needed a slight inseam adjustment. I thought, what the heck, I only paid $ 29 for this, I might as well go and get this fixed. Well, I went in and asked to have the inseam dropped by an inch without trying it on for a fitting. That may have been my mistake, but the gentleman did not ask me to try it on anyway. When I went to pick it up, the inseam had been done very haphazardly, with two fabric pieces that were not even facing the same direction and stray threads hanging out unfinished. I was charged an egregious and unexpected $ 35. Further, I tried it on this time and it still didn’t fit right. The gentleman seemed quite upset with me for not trying it on for a fitting in the first place, so he offered to fit it at that time and re-​do the inseam. I thought this was quite kind, did the fitting, and thanked him. The next week when I went to pick it up for the last time, he was curt and rude, did not greet me, demanded that I produce the ticket for the item we both knew was mine before he would even get up out of his chair, silently showed me the new inseam, and finally put the romper in a plastic bag for me to take, and did not say goodbye even after I thanked him and wished him a good night. At least the job was done better and it fits now, but again the fabric used is such low quality and not as nice as the fabric in the rest of the romper. Luckily no one will actually see this area, but I am worried it will wear quickly.
I will NOW never go back here. There is another tailor close by who is kind, fast, and comparably priced to everyone else in the area.

Mr. Robasson
I love this place. They altered my WEDDING DRESS from a size 8 to a size 2. Mr. Robasson is so amazing. He is so nice and down to business. No bullcrap or waisting my time. Each appointment I was in and out in 30 minutes or less. I felt so comfortable while being there, and he was very confident, there was no doubt in my mind that he knew what he was doing. I should also mention that most wedding dress alterations take over 4 months !!! I needed my wedding dress in less than 2 months, and they for sure delivered ! I will never go anywhere else to get something altered. My wedding dress was absolutely beautiful. I also got my mothers dress altered, and she looked amazing. I highly recommend this place. Do not expect a fancy dressing room and seltzer waters. This is just true old school talent.

I bought a maxi dress from Forever21 that was entirely too long and after seeing the amazing work Dick did on hemming my boyfriend’s pants and sleeves on his suit jacket for a wedding, I thought I’d give this place a try for myself.
Boy am I glad I came here! Dick and the rest of the staff are very kind and the work done on my dress was absolutely flawless. You could barely tell that I had gotten it hemmed! It looks like it came shorter from the beginning. The total came out to $ 25. Totally worth it. Highly recommend!

Give the man (Dick Robasson) a gold medal. I came with a «bespoke» Indochino suit a week ago that I intended to wear to my wedding. This was my second Indochino suit, and, bless their hearts, the tailors in Shanghai had yet again come up short.
Literally. The jacket sleeve barely came up to the bottom of the cuff on my dress shirt.
Dick was perfectly comforting and steady while he marked up the suit for alterations. He set expectations by warning me that if we extended the sleeves the buttons would probably look a little off. A week later, I came back, and the suit fit like a glove.
It’s clear Dick takes his worth seriously and executes with pride. He found a gray fabric that matched the suit to sew into the inside lining of my comically short sleeve, so that, even though no else but me could see it, the lining would still look legitimate. And after I’d tried on the altered suit, Dick took care to re-​iron the whole thing before bagging it so that the suit would be crisp and ready for the big day.
Thank you, Dick, for saving my wedding suit. This may be the last time I order a suit from the needle-​wielding monkeys at Indochino, but it won’t be the last time I visit Dick at Le Couturier.

I had what seemed to me to be a complicated alteration to a dress and as soon as I saw the dress on the hanger I audibly said «wow.» I was further impressed after trying it on — beautifully tailored!

Highly recommend! I had this dress that was completely messed up by another tailor and I brought it here to be fixed. I was really nervous because I wasn’t sure if they could help. But they did! And it was excellent!
In addition, it only came out to $ 30 which was a really fair price for the work.

A really good tailor with excellence prices and a great tailor and a great location. I live in Cambridge but used to go all the way down to Newbury Tailors for suit alterations. No longer — this guy is just as good. He’s polite, has a good eye, does great mending and jean repair as well. He’s busy — you don’t have to wait, but it can take 8 business days to get the alterations back. But he estimates accurately and it all works well.
Highly recommended for men’s ware (can’t speak to women’s ware alterations though I assume he’s all around excellent.)

The work here is excellent and reasonably priced. I had him tailor my strapless wedding dress. It needed to be taken in the bust (for fear of it falling off) and hemmed (too long), and he did a fantastic job. It was invisible where he took it in, and the hemming was perfect, with no trailing threads (so many places are not careful about hemming the bottom of anything, thinking you’re not going to see it). He cares a lot and does things precisely. He also put in hooks in the back to hold my bra strap down. I didn’t even ask for that, and it was so helpful! I was just really impressed by the perfect fit (wasn’t scared of my dress falling down at all!) and clean job.
Be sure to bring whatever you plan on wearing under what you want tailored. He wants to do a good job, but he can’t do that if you show up in the wrong shoes. He actually had me come back because brought the wrong shoes/​bra. He was also less expensive than other places I’ve gone to, and for the quality, so much better.

I almost never review anything (bad Unilocaler) but this demanded one. A lot of people have commented on getting jeans hemmed, but I needed two pairs of jeans taken in almost two full sizes (they fit perfectly in the thighs, but I have a small waist). He completed the work flawlessly, they fit perfectly, and best of all, it doesn’t look like anything has been done to the pants. They look unaltered.
I paid cash. It was $ 20 a pair which, for me, is completely worth it. The jeans I brought in were on the expensive side, so this was a fraction of their purchase price and now they fit as if they were made for me. Can’t really put a price on feeling fabulous in a perfect pair of jeans, y’know. They were ready in slightly over a week with a Monday holiday squeezed in there.
Side note: He also found my turquoise ring (which had slipped off in the dressing room), remembered I had been wearing it, and thoughtfully safety-​pinned it around the belt loop of my jeans so that it was there when I picked them up.
Summary: this man is incredibly talented and this place should have more stars than it has.

A little pricey but still very good.
I bought a cheat maxi dress at forever 21, but I’m not a maxi dress type of girl. In fact, I’m kind of short so I was standing on the hem when I was in my heels. So I brought my dress into the Le Couturier House of Alterations to be altered. While I was going to get it hemmed I had him make it into a fishtail type dress.
I came in, tried it on and he marked where it should be cut and told me to come back in a week. Honestly with the weather becoming nicer and nicer and the excitement of my dress coming back to me one of a kind, I almost couldn’t stand it. So exactly a week later I called to pick up my dress. But it wasn’t ready yet. The next day I picked it up and it was perfect. It’s shorter but not nearly as short as I wanted it, but this way I can wear it to work still. I put a picture up in the pictures for the Unilocal page if you want to see how it was really done. But the hemming is done really well and you’d probably never know that I altered it.
The entire thing came out to 30 $ ont top of the 10 $ I paid for it, so it was so nice.
