This was the most absolute amazing experience with incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, resourceful, and professional people who obviously love the work they do and see the importance of it. We have a newspaper copy of a poetry book from the 1930’s. For years, we attempted to find another copy of the book with no success. We tried to find the poems online but too many of them were unique and one of a kind. We tried to have the book preserved but learned newspaper from the 1930’s was not high quality. We tried to have the book copied and reprinted but it meant cutting it open and paying a lot of money to scan and print it. Our research led us to discover that two originals(one of which was described as pristine) of our beloved poetry book existed at Brown University in Rhode Island. Being in Boston, we were delighted. After numerous hopeful emails where Ann and the retiring library curator promised to get back to me, they never did. We, of course, were to pay all costs. Finally, on the verge of her retirement, Rosemary abruptly decided that they would not copy the book for us. After wasted months of trying to get somebody to call or email me back, it was like a slap in the face. Upon trying to get our brittle and yellowed book copied, a scanning company in Kansas suggested I try a local university so we didn’t have to send our fragile copy. I called MIT and Harvard. Only MIT called me back. I got an immediate response from Jessica at document services at MIT. She was absolutely phenomenal and gave me all of the pricing and information we needed. She remained in constant contact with us until the end. We were lucky enough to get Jennifer with her experience and many suggestions who actually handled the project. They made a hard copy of the book and soft bound it without ever cutting it. We were so delighted with the job they did, we had 20 more copies made. And we also got it all copied to a CD so we can print it out whenever we want. Oh my gosh. MIT and its document services staff are the absolute best. As far as I’m concerned, it is the best university in the world — and has the best people. MIT, you ROCK!!! Thank you sooooo much.
