Come here for all types of Boston sports gear. Huge store and a great variety of stuff. Yes stuff.

I used to love to go to Modells for their customer service. Today was not a good day for service. My son needed basketball shoes, which were listed as $ 49.99 on the rack, the sales person who helped us chose the shoe as a good choice for him. We took it to the counter and the shoe rang at $ 84.99. I asked the sales person at the register to re-check the price since both my son and I noticed the price as $ 49.99. The sales person went to personally check the price and told us it was indeed $ 84.99. We went back together so I could show him that the display had no price other than $ 49.99. He apologized and asked his manager about it. The manager was suspicious and was immediately defensive. The sales person was better at remediating the situation. I hope someone from Modell’s management reads this post so the Manager on duty tonight could get some basic customer service training! It seems the store displayed 2 different shoes with similar designs at the same location so as to trick the buyer into buying the more expensive pair. Very disappointed with the experience.

This place is HUGE, so they’re bound to have what you’re looking for. You’d think. But you’ll have to find it by yourself. Very hard to find staff, and when you do find them, they’re not as familiar with the stuff as you’d like(that is, as I’d like). They cannot, for example, help you decide WHICH shin guards are actually better… Lots of soccer balls — but many of them are the same ball(like rows and rows and rows of bottles of coca-cola). Better variety of basketballs. Kids cleats stocked so low that you need a lot of luck to find the right size. BUT: if you want patriots or celtics t-shirts, this is your place.

I have heard so much about Modell’s and now there is one in my neighborhood. I had dealt with Modell’s back in the day when they were regional NY/NJ type of place. This place is big and well stocked but grossly undermanned. The kid who helped me with footwear was efficient in getting the right size but it ended there. The problem was checking out. They were so concerned with getting people signed up for their discount card the lined swelled 8 or 9 deep while ONE person was ringing sales, ONE had her back to what was going on and ONE was taking people with returns who just walked in as opposed to getting all of us waiting first. THEN they literally had every swinging dick working(sorry, some were ladies so swinging… whatever) ringing people and left the sales floor empty. I guess I’mmore sensitive to it because what I do for a living. So, like Coaches Belichick and Parcells both stated, it is what it is. Good selection, poor service
