amazingly underrated. although not noted on the menu, any dish can be made vegetarian. try the spice and rice tofu and tofu maki.

They recently moved from the Inman Square area of Cambridge to Porter Square and I’m disappointed. We lost our favorite lunch place. For a ten dollar bill, you could sit down and get yourself a very very tasty lunch with excellent quick service. I have not been to the new place in Porter, but I’m guessing its the same. One thing. I like spicy food. Very spicy food. Most places won’t make things as hot as I’d like, fearing I’ll send it back. This place nailed it on my first visit with a wonderful flavorful, HOT, Massaman curry over brown rice. I do want to add one caution though. Over on Grub Hub the reviews for delivered food seem to be universally bad. If you want some Spice and Rice, I’d suggest you pass on the delivery.

Great Thai food in Cambridge MA. The gyoza(steamed chicken/veggie dumplings) were really good, and so was the sauce to dip them in. I also had the drunken noodles with a 5-star spice, which was really spicy & so tasty. They toss a bunch of veggies in with some chicken and a little bit of noodles. The service was good too, but there were only 2 – 3 other tables in the restaurant when I went. The best thing about this place is the price! My meal was $ 15 for the app & entrée… by far the cheapest in Cambridge. Good job!

Spice and Rice is my go to take out Thai place. It’s also incredibly inconsistent. Sometimes the wait is within a minute of what they say it will be, sometimes its within two hours. Sometimes the chicken and eggplant has delicious chicken and eggplant, sometimes it’s just chicken and… or… and eggplant. and occasionally … Sometimes there are chopsticks, sometimes there are none. Sushi can be fresh or sushi can be stale. Sometimes it’s a 5 star, sometimes a 1 star. Here we go with a 3…

Make sure you get the right thing when you order delivery… Even when they REPEAT the order back to you, as in my case, they get it wrong.(and being a vegetarian, I couldn’t even eat what they gave me) AND when you call back, you get the lovely pleasure of this person who can instantly recall the exact details of every conversation she had with you about YOUR order(and let you know YOU are wrong) Can’t provide a review about the food, was too hungry and went somewhere else… lost this customer. P. S. Does anyone need a Yellow curry with chicken? It’s Paid for!

Food was just okay. I’ve eaten at many Thai places and this food was mediocre. The part that irritates me the most when it comes to dining out as a customer is not being forewarned about a substitution charge. I ordered drunken noodles and asked for a side of mangoes not thinking I’d be charged more than two or three dollars for an additional food item. The Drunken noodles dish did not have much noodles to it which I was looking forward to the most. My friend ordered the chicken massaman curry which my friend said was lacking flavor and taste. Here comes the not so fun part, we get the bill and my friend noticed that we were charged for a sticky rice and mango dessert $ 5.95 which I did not order at all. We had no dessert that night. When the waitress came over, I questioned her about the charge and she said it was for the side of mango slices that I ordered. I told her I only wanted a few pieces but did not think I’d be charged for a plate that I didn’t order. I then requested for the sticky rice to the dessert which I apparently ordered. she responded with«there is no sticky rice, we gave you extra mango slices». Guys, I basically paid to have my mango shipped from Asia and was served only ¼ of it. WHAT A RIPOFF. I have decided that I would take this matter to the Unilocal world and forewarn people about my awful experience. Thats some grimy shit and that’s how you lose customers. I will tell my friends to avoid this place and go eat at Rod Dee or Dok Bua instead.

Took take out… Drunken noodle is worth getting again. The regular Pad Thai was ok. A couple of pieces of shrimp and plenty of chicken but just ok.

Unless it’s pretty classy, I’m usually skeptical about fusion restaurants and Spice & Rice has proven me right! The set up is ugly, you have to walk down a long hallway before seeing the restaurant, so the staff doesn’t know you’re on your way in and you find them just hanging at the tables talking and you have to wait a moment before they realize your standing there. Unfortunately, I’ve been here twice. And both times the service was awful. My table was ignored; water wasn’t refilled, took so long for someone to take our order and then to give us our bill. The food is bland and not fresh at all. Sushi station is a joke and I’m even disgusted by the miso soup. Perhaps it could be better if they focused on one cuisine that they knew well enough to cook.

Stumbled across Spice & Rice because it was the only place where the bar wasn’t packed on a Friday night. Nice place to go if you want to order some interesting cocktails and actually be able to hear what your drinking mate is saying. I highly recommend the Tokyo Tea. We ordered the fresh rolls, which were pretty average. Heard that the food was mediocre-to-decent — nothing special, but smells great and tastes just fine.

As others mentioned, the décor at Spice & Rice is very cool. Friends and I went on a Saturday night for dinner, and the place was nearly deserted, with more staff than patrons. As a result, the staff pretty much harassed us, a new waiter/waitress coming over every minute, asking to remove plates we hadn’t finished eating off of. Additionally, none of them seemed to have a strong grasp of English, so our questions about the menu seemed to befuddle them. One recommended a dish to a friend she had described as «mild,» but was extremely fiery(to the degree that my friend didn’t finish even half of it.) The other major issue? The waitress served me a piping hot plate, with no warning, and no grips with which to handle the plate safely, and I burned my hand trying to move it out of my friend’s way. They could really get themselves in hot water if they continue so carelessly. With that said, we were seated quickly, the décor is modern and cool(decorated like a deep-ocean scene), and I really enjoyed the food. A friend and I shared the roti with tofu, and though she found the pancakes oily, I thought the sauce was really delicious; sweet, spicy and savory. The portion was tiny though, only 4 sad little pancake sections for $ 7. I think you could only really get away with sharing this app with one other person. I ordered the chicken pad thai as my entrée, which was served on the aforementioned burning hot plate(literally a cast-iron pan set in a wooden plate), and the preparation gave the noodles a seared texture/flavor that I’d never really had before, but really enjoyed. I would’ve enjoyed it more had the pan not burned my finger off first, but it was really tasty. I’d go back here and try some of the other dishes. But I’d encourage the staff to up their game first!

Only ordered delivery cause I didn’t want to leave my apartment to buy food during finals mode… no bueno. The sushi was better than the Thai, but both were meh. Not as flavorful as most other Thai food I’ve had. I had to put a ton of Sriracha to make it taste decent. Would not order again.

Spice & Rice is incredibly affordable, especially for lunch. I simply order online and take a quick stroll down there to pick up my food. I have gotten a couple of things from Spice & Rice. None of these items were that memorable, so I can’t say they were anything spectacular. The tofu teriyaki was not too flavorful. The teriyaki sauce tasted too salty, and the tofu too bland. The two tastes did not blend well together, and ended up just confusing my taste buds. The salad that came with the lunch boxes was also very bland. I generally love Japanese salads with ginger dressing, but the dressing(I think it had orange zest on it) did not compliment the leaves and other fixins. Not a fan. I got noodles one time, and they were just way too salty. There were not enough veggies and the noodles seemed way too soft(overcooked?). I generally like to eat healthy, and that is perhaps the reason why I initially wanted to try this place, but I didn’t feel like I was eating healthy food. It felt too much like half-hearted fast food with too much salt. Sorry, Spice & Rice. Please cut down on the salt and add more veggies to your noodle dishes. Perfectly cooked veggies bring out the BEST in dishes.

I just went here last Friday for dinner with two friends and my little. First of all this is notthe old Thai place(sweet chili ?) that was in this location 5 + years ago. It is one fine place. I bought the“Buy with Me” dealwith the intention of trying this Thai placefor lunch one day; my bad it was ONLY for dinner. read.the.fine.print. Anyway, dinner 7pm on a Friday no wait time, good wine, nice apps scallion dumpling and edamame, simplistic but good. Overall the ambiance, décor, noise, and service was good. The presentation, portion size and price were awesome ! I have had many a thai food in this city and this one won me over. I will be back again soon for lunch! Thank you for being so gracious and accomondating. The reason for 4 stars– PARKING sucks in this area; not directly the fault of the restaurant; however I would suggest doing a valet or something of the like for people like me.

Second dinner in my new place in Union Square — Spice and Rice delivery. After a long day of moving furniture and boxes from my old digs in Brookline, I ordered Spice and Rice via at about 8:15PM on Saturday and it was delivered in about 40 minutes. Masaman Curry Chicken is one of my standard Thai staples, and Spice and Rice’s take on it was par. The Pad Thai was unfortunately a little dry though. Also got the«Siamese Twins»(chicken and shrimp with vegetables and sweet and sour sauce) which was also decent but I wish the sauce was a little thicker. Best part was the portion size, a good amount of food for around $ 10 an entrée. Worst parts: THEENTREESDIDN’T COMEWITHRICE!!! A place named«Spice and Rice» should include include it!!! $ 2 delivery charge Did not include any utensils or napkins with the delivery — this was especially annoying because all my stuff was still boxed up and I actually wound up running to a pizza joint around the corner to steal paper plates, napkins, and plastic utensils. With so many Thai/Asian delivery options around Union Sq, I don’t think I’ll be trying Spice and Rice again.

Ordered through foodler. Food is cheap and arrived in an hour. Country pad Thai. extra spicy. No chicken add vegetables. The pad Thai had a horrible burnt taste, wasnt at all spicy, dispite the extra spicy request, and had only a couple pieces of broccoli for the vegetables I requested. I ate half and threw the rest away. I wouldn’t order here again. Spend the extra money and order from tamarind house.

I do a little bit of love it here. There have great servers and the décor is a little silly but fun. It looks like Pee-Wee’s Playhouse and that makes me a little bit of smile. I have to say that menus with multiple asian foods usually scare me. It’s like going to a Cuban restaurant that proudly serves burritos. I give squint eyes to the Jack of all Traits. They are pretty good overall though. I would avoid the Thai, try the Korean and give a thumbs up to their Sushi. The prices are a bit high but they put real flowers on their drinks and the drinks are sooooo goood! Nothing quite so good as sipping flower martinis in Pee-Wee’s Playhouse and eating really decent Sushi.

I’ve always had a good experience here. The food has always been tasty and delivery in Cambridge perfectly adequate. Waiter service is always polite. No complaints here! Their regular pad thai is basic and delicious. The variations are also quite good, though I am not a pad thai connoisseur. I just like theirs. I like pretty much all of their appetizers and enjoy their sushi which is always fresh. LOVE the Tom Kar soup. I’m not afraid to try things on their menu because I won’t break the bank and I’ve ended up liking everything I’ve ordered. This place has been consistently good and reliable for me :)

Spice & Rice offers the BIGGEST, FRESHEST, MEANEST sashimi/sushi out there! Seriously, BEST value for your money. Almost every time I go with a group, we always over-order sushi and apps, leaving little to no room for the entrees and desserts. I do want to mention one of my fave entrees: Crispy Duck, which is one of their specials.

I feel like restaurants that try to do a number of different cuisines often raise a red flag — like seriously people, pick one thing and do it well. However, I think Spice and Rice does a pretty good job of avoiding falling into the shitty-food trap. The Thai food is good, but I usually order sushi while I’m there. This is for one simple reason: the party boats. I know that a lot of places have boats but for some reason Spice & Rice happens to have especially sweet boats. I think it might be how the boat specials are always loaded full of delicious sashimi. And shaped like BOATS! I do not know if I can emphasize enough how delighted I am when my sushi comes on a boat. On the minus side, service here can be a bit slow, but never rude — I think I may have just had new waiters the last couple times I’ve been. Anyhow, Spice & Rice has my approval. Go! Have a boat!
