Valvoline Instant Oil Change

Brought my Pilot here yesterday for oil change. Service was excellent and quick. Manager was informative. I had an air filter in my trunk and they installed it free of charge. Would highly recommend versus Jiffy Lube

i always feel like im getting ripped off here even with the coupons. anyone have an suggestions on a place thats not going to cost me $ 99 for a full synthetic oil change on a V8?

I had a very positive experience here. Staff was polite, didn’t upsell me on random stuff, and I was out in 10 minutes.

The staff here is efficient and polite. The person who services my car was particularly well-​spoken. The few times oil change can actually be a pleasant experience!

No complaints here! They let me know my car could take full synthetic or a synthetic blend (contrary to what the Medford location who told me the $ 84 full synthetic was my only option). The guys were all super nice and helpful. Very polite and respectful. Wish I had known about the coupon though!!!

I want to give an update on my review on my 2^nd Car Experience regarding not receiving enough motor oil.
In the end, my civic was half to three quarters a quart short of motor oil. Valvoline measured the amount wrong.
I drove my car home, I checked the motor oil level on my flat driveway several times. The dip stick came up dry. I thought it had to do something with the engine being hot so I left the car untouched overnight. In the morning, I checked the motor oil level again and again it came up dry. Concern that my car didn’t received enough motor oil, I went to AutoZone and got myself one quart of the same motor oil. I poured ¼ into the engine first, checked the dip stick and I noticed this time I see oil on the dip stick. I poured more than half a quart of motor oil to get the oil level to the recommended range.

The service is great but, it appears as though they will advice you on repairs without your best interest in mind. I have a fairly new car, about 2.5 years old, 19,000 miles. They inspected my battery and found that it needed to be replaced. They offered to replace the battery and I was happy with the service and drove off. To my surprise, I was recently told by the dealer that they should off asked me if the car is still under warranty. I was told that it is industry knowledge that cars that are new typically have a 3 or 4 year warranty that would cover the battery. The dealer is going to give me a refund for this unfortunate incident. For this reason, I would not recommend Valvoline Instant Oil change to my friends and family.

Very helpful! Brian was extremely knowledgeable, and really helped me out. I came for an oil change, and was able to get a checkup and headlight done for my car. Very pleasant people all around, I honestly just came for a brake fluid flush. But they were so great at handling my car. Definitely would recommend this place, especially if you want efficient service, from very friendly, knowledgeable people.

I just had a great experience getting an oil change here. They asked me to stay in the car while they checked my brake lights, tire pressure, and fluids. The communications was extremely good for an autoshop. Also, they’re open on Sundays, which was extremely convenient for me. I’m not accustomed to car services explaining everything to me, almost like a great informercial! But that’s one of the perks of coming here. Customer service to the extreme here!

I have a 2014 car and had it nearly a year, as of today 5k miles there is absolutely nothing wrong with my alignment. I went to valvoline in North Cambridge and stated I needed a regular oil change and a tire rotation (since my car is new it’s recommended to get this service at 5k) the CSR; Courtney asked me if I had after market rims I replied no, then she told me that my tires are balding on this sides (she was only looking at driver side tire) and they can’t rotate them because they don’t have an alignment machine onsite. I then told her my car only has 5k miles for the whole year and your telling me my tires are balding? She replied, Yes. So, I said fine just give me the oil change, because I knew she was lying and just didn’t want to rotate my tires. knowing I was just lied to I went to NTB and they stated that there isn’t anything wrong with my tires or alignment. Exactly what I knew already! Thanks for not doing my tire rotation because I’ve now found a new place to go get an oil change and tire rotation NTB!

I went in for an oil change for my car, which uses full synthetic oil. I had a Groupon for a full synthetic oil change at Valvoline.
First, the guy told me the Groupon was expired without even looking at it. It wasn’t expired.
Then he tells me it’s an additional $ 26 because the Groupon is for 5 quarts of oil and my car uses 6 quarts and a premium oil filter.
I tell the guy to fill it up with 5 quarts as per the Groupon limit and that I would buy the additional quart. He starts yelling and bitching at me: «I’m not gonna do that! I won’t let you do that blah blah»
Very rude. I would have paid the $ 26 dollars if the guy had not been such a douche. I went to the location in Brookline and they were way nicer. Same franchisee, completely different workforce.
I would not recommend the Cambridge location at all.

The staff was so friendly and helpful. Ibrahim, the manager, got out a book with pictures to explain the repair that was needed on my car and why it was necessary. The service was done quickly and without pressuring me into other things. Highly recommend them.

I go out of my way an extra mile or so from all the nearby gas+garage type shops to get my oil changed here. The staff is always super friendly, amicable, chatty — they seem to really enjoy what they’re doing, compared, to your typical reticent serviceperson at most shops.
I’m not the best person to know whether or not or how often I need to change fluids other than the oil (transmission, steering fluid) but based on your miles and visits they’ll recommend when you should. Yes, they’re a bit pricey, yes, they politely offer «up-​sell» products/​services, but it goes a long way for me in peace of mind to just let them worry and advise me what I need, so I can get on with my day and feel like my car is going to keep running well.

I didn’t want to bug my mechanic with a plain ol’ oil change, so I looked around on Unilocal and the reviews here did not mislead me at all. Quick service on a Saturday morning (I only had to wait for one car) and friendly treatment from every person I spoke with, from the guy who suggested which line would be fastest to the woman who explained each step of what they were doing. No up-​sell, no pressure – they suggested that the cheaper of the two oils appropriate for my car was just fine, and every other check came back clear aside from topping up the windshield fluid (which I’d been hitting hard – pollen!). Even showed me my just-​fine engine filter! I also got to eavesdrop on the more complicated situation of the guy next to me, who’d been sold the wrong oil filter elsewhere – they showed him how it wouldn’t fit, and since they were out of stock on his filter, they told him if he could get the right one they’d happily install it. Pro tip: when you turn off the engine, toss the keys on the dashboard so the technician KNOWS it’s off!

Quick service expertly done with a smile. They don’t try to up-​sell you too much and always offer/​honor coupons.

I ended up spending about $ 100 because I got an oil change + two new air filters bc mine were total shot. I’m not sure if it would have been cheaper going to my dealership (perhaps…), but these guys were open on a Sunday and I desperately needed an oil change after a long roadtrip. All in all, I’d go back (especially if the dealership charges more).

Tried to charge me $ 75 for a «premium» European oil change supposedly mandated by the manufacturer of my vehicle, which is a 12-​year-​old VW. I have never had any other mechanic or quick service oil change outlet ever suggest anything other than the standard $ 35 or so oil change during the ownership of my car, which I purchased new and have owned for 12 years.

The Cons:
They tried to charge me $ 90 for a pair of wiper blades. Seriously. I called the Honda dealership and they said it would be $ 30, and when I shared this info with the guy trying to convince me that this was a steal, he told me I was being lied to and got even more aggro about making the sale. No thanks.
It is insane that even with a coupon, a standard oil change is about $ 65 after they add all the hidden fees.
As another Unilocaler commented, they don’t do all the checks that they’re supposed to, so you really are paying $ 65 just for the oil and 15 min of labor.
Based on my experience and the Unilocaler who pointed out that they made a mistake that could have destroyed his engine, I’ll probably switch to another place for my next oil change.

I’m a big fan of the drive thru oil change. I hate waiting in those horrible waiting rooms or standing around the bay waiting for my car. This way, I can see whats going on.
Go on their website and print a $ 5 coupon. The prices here are high. About $ 40 for standard oil change. This cost is supposed to include a check of:
Transmission fluid
Power steering fluid
Windshield washer fluid
Antifreeze/​coolant
Tire pressure
Air Filter
Serpentine Belt
Wiper blades
Vehicle Lights
I know for a fact they didn’t do all of these, because I was sitting in the car.
I used to go to a Valvoline in Lowell that was cheaper, nicer, and through. Ya, it took a little longer, but they did check all fluid levels and even vacuumed my carpets, every time. I hoped this Valvoline would offer the same satisfaction but it did not.
For its drive thru, super fast convenience, I may return. But only if I cant find another place.
