I love the club, the people and the music! I have been coming here for a long time and took a year off because of work and other things. I came back and was still amazed by the friendliness and everything else. Anyone who loves a fun and inviting club that is on the gothic and dark side would enjoy their time.

The club, TT the Bear’s Place is a DIVE. But this is a review for Xmortis night at this club, which is held the 2nd Friday of each month. This was on August 10th this year. My actual birthday– I will say only this, It was one of my birthdays after turning 40 years old, but I am still under 45 My friends & I wanted to do something totally off the rocker, so we decided to come here to celebrate. We all wore black, something pleather or satin, & wore black boots-(yes in frigging 90 degree heat) & we even had a flogger, we WERE trying to look more Dominatrix, but personally I think we look more like Aging gothic hookers. LOL ;) Like the other reviews, it was a lot like the old ManRay in Cambridge, which I loved back in the day, but now that I am much older, I think I should have been tripping on something. It was very festive & entertaining here, the music was loud & ok, it is not my kind of music that I typically listen too, the club-goers were all courteous, letting us take pictures with them. Some outfits were pretty outrages, a lot of Superheroes, Teen Titans, Villains, Drag queens, & Bondage dressed people & if they bumped in to you, the clientel is very apologetic, unlike the bars/clubs that I regular go to now, where it is if you bumped into someone by accident, they want to rip your head off. It is very dark in here & extremely hot, I swear the air conditioning in here did not work, whatsoever! Generally, I had fun & was extremely amused, but truth be told, I probably will have to pass, if I was ever asked to come here again. Does anyone want to purchase an almost new flogger?

I try to make it out to X-mortis as much as possible. It’s always a good time. Chris Ewen is always spinning awesome music and the other Dj’s are good too.

I LOVE this place. First, I’m in that awkward over-18-but-under-21 stage of life, and am thrilled to have somewhere to go clubbing; especially somewhere with as nice of an atmosphere as Xmortis. Second, unlike every other club I’ve been to, I haven’t been subjected to the torment of being groped by total strangers and have all manner of lewd comments directed at me. Maybe I’ve just had very bad luck at regular clubs, or maybe it’s just that Xmortis is awesome, but I’ve never had to deal with that sort of behavior at Xmortis. Sure, someone might hit on you, but it will generally be in a much nicer way than the drunk frat boys at the other 18+ venues in Boston. As for other things; the clothing you’ll see here is incredible! It’s truly a feast for the eyes, covering everything from basic black jeans and band shirts to the most opulent of romanti-goth outfits to badass PVC miniskirts. As an art student who does a lot of work with textiles, I find this place to be an unending source of ideas and inspiration. You get to see some of the coolest and most unique garments in the city here. The music is generally pretty awesome, Chris Ewen generally plays a pretty good variety of music, and the guest DJ’s are generally pretty awesome. It’s all very danceable, and always incorporates some songs that go with the night’s theme. Also, the different themes they pick are generally awesome, maybe a tad cliched, but that aspect somehow makes it easier to scrape together a themed outfit, and definitely make it easier to find music that reflects the night’s theme. The most important thing about Xmortis though are the people who frequent it. They’re generally awesome, friendly, intelligent, funny, and respectful. The friendliness is incredible; after a friend realized she had forgotten her ID back home and had to run out to get it, I was left on my own for an hour and a half. I’m a pretty shy pesron, and was anticipating that I’d be left dancing alone until my friend came back, but that wasn’t the case. A few people realized I was alone and invited me to dance with them. The idea that people would be this welcoming to total strangers was such a novel concept for me, but I’ve come to realize that it’s one of those things that keeps me coming back to Xmortis again and again. The people really what make Xmortis what it is– an incredible venue, well worth coming out to.

I enjoy the goth/punk atmosphere and attitude so I go to Xmortis more for the people I know and get to meet than I do the music and dancing. So if you are kind of a weirdo, nerd, artist, punk, or other type who doesn’t quite march to the beat of the world as a whole you will enjoy it here.

I really, REALLY miss this place. It was a monthly staple for a couple of years until I moved to California. :(There is nothing better then dressing up with your friends, heading to an atmosphere with like-minded people(a rarity) and dancing to some pretty kick ass DJ’s. The fashion shows will always be my favorites! Drinks are reasonable and the people are really chill and friendly. I love the mix of industrial and goth rather just one or the other. Boston’s goth scene may be smaller but it definitely kicks the ass of LA’s goth scene any day… hands down.

I was so glad to see that Goth wasn’t actually dead! Since Manray’s closure I’ve been looking for a place to congregate with the like minded people, and this was it! Everyone was really friendly, the DJ-ing was just what I wanted, and the club was deceptively large. I had gone to a show at this club prior to checking out X-Mortis’ events, and thought it to be a small venue. Upon arriving for their«Vampy-Valentine’s Day» event, I noticed all this space that was available to hang out in if one needed a break from the dance floor. The drinks were fairly reasonable for a club in Boston. Under $ 10 a drink doesn’t sound super cheap, but its less than a few places I’ve seen. The Atmosphere reminded me well of the days of Manray, and I couldn’t have been happier. We are planning many trips to these events in the future.

So, I loved this event even before I knew the people who run it. I’ll rely on that and save the bias for later. This was my 2nd goth event I went to in Boston and cemented my love for the scene here. Heralding from the days of Manray, Xmortis is alive and well at TT the Bear’s the 2nd Friday of every month. Why I like it(no bias, I swear!) –Drink prices are affordable. I’m not dropping $ 10 on one drink, and can actually afford my tab! –Chris Ewen and the guest DJ. Always gothy, but never stale. You’ll hear new music, old favorites, and everything in between. Its not just goth, its not just industrial, its just GOOD. –Terri the Bartender. I’ve mentioned before she’s my favorite bartender in Boston and I’m not kidding. She’s my fucking favorite bartender! Be sure to have cash on hand for her bar in the back lounge. –Its 18+ Yup, one of the last few in the area. My last few months that I suffered being 20 were made infinitely better by this event. INFINITELY. –The themes are fun, but you don’t have to follow them. Not in the mood, or don’t have an outfit for said theme? Not an issue. You don’t have to be dressed in theme to have a great time.(Tho really, pirate night? One of my favs. Along with Apocalypse) Bias: Its fucking awesome, got it? Just go! Dress up all gothy and smexy and hang out with the cool kids. Cuz we’re awesome. Yeah.

I went here twice and had a good time both times. Even though I stood in a corner and slowly got drunk, stared at people and went outside a smoke a lot. I still had a good time lol.

SO. Yeah. First Xmortis for me. I am pleased. Last night was Follow the White Rabbit — which meant that there were exceptions to all black — as long as you were fetish or wonderland-y. Yeah. SO. I saw about 3 people just wearing black jeans and T shirts. Pretty much everyone else was decked out in one way or another. More fun than a PVC full face hood with a zipper. :D I spent all night telling people how awesome they looked(while dancing like a nutty, of course) Where else can you say to someone — «nice leash». To the girl in the latex thong bodysuit.. .NICE.. .boots. And the guy who was probably 6′ 6″ BEFORE the 3 inch platform boots. In the long black trench coat. DUDE. You do make an impression. And the girl in the«shirt» made of electrical tape. I am SO stealing that idea. *scribbling in my notebook.. * Hot music — I’m likin’ Chris Ewen. I didn’t leave the floor once except to get a drink. And I drank them quickly so I could get back out there. Excellent fun! Every day is Halloween.. .

Love and miss Manray but Xmortis @ T.T.‘s has done very well in keeping the spirit of Manray dark and deadly. The music is always a pleaser and you can hear everything from old school Cure to VNV Nation and everything in between. You must love the color black though because its the minimum(I LOVE black so I am not very objective) you can get in with(though I have seen some exceptions lately) but really just go buy something black(you will feel better about it in the morning)!! Terri is the best bartender and will fix you up with just about anything you can ask for(my fav is her homemade Smirnoff Vampire, yum yum!) –just remember to bring cash because for some goofy reason after being at T.T.‘s for almost two years they haven’t given her a working credit card machine?! In any case you can dance your ass off, get a nice buzz going, and have a great time listening to great music! The only con I have is I wish it was a weekly event!!!

For me, this is a great place to catch-up with friends who I only see at X-Mortis or Heroes nights.(Yes, I’m a devoted Ewen fan)…It’s also one of the best nights to hear some old industrial /darkwave tunes and bands like Xymox which you don’t get to hear much anymore. But, I agree with the previous reviewers that this place can definitely be hit-or-miss. For drinks, I usually see Terry, the bartender in the back of the club. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have a credit card machine, so my drinks must be paid for with ca$h at her bar. However, the bar at the front does accept credit cards but there’s a $ 15 minimum. I’d also like to mention that the cover charge is only $ 5 before 10pm; after 10pm, it’s $ 10.(Rarely, do I ever make it out before midnight — but, you should take advantage of the discount if you’re one of those early birds…) ALL Black is absolutely a MUST, unless you’re wearing a very creative outfit and it can justify an exception.(But, don’t quote me on that… I don’t make the rules, I only know what I’ve seen.) Jeans and khaki’s are a definite no-no! Why would you want to wear the same clothes to X-Mortis that you wore to work, anyway!!!

I’ve always had an excellent time at T.T. the Bear’s over the years, so when I found out they had a monthly goth night I was all ears. I’d in no way, shape or form consider myself goth, but it was a damn good time. I didn’t like the beer in a plastic cup though, or the fact the bathroom is a goddamn tuna fish can with trannies thinking they coud use it when there’s a perfectly fine men’s room to their right. No offense trannies. A co-worker told me this place was a hit or miss depending on the night and apparently he was right about last week’s Pirate Night. Too many fucking dolts walking around in Capt. Jack Sparrow regalia. But I’ll give it a shot again. I’d like to see who else reviews XMortis, get some other opinions. We’ll see.

Weekly goth/fetish/industrial night that runs every Friday. There’s always a theme, so be prepared to get fabulous(or wear black if you must.)
