The 2011 Carolina Cup held on April 2nd was absolutely fantastic due in part to spectacular sunny and warm but still breezy 73 degree weather. A perfect day for tailgating at the edge of the race track(thanks to a gracious invitation from a lucky front row passholder due to his family’s decades long patronage of the Carolina Cup). Part horse race, part pageantry, part preppy gone wild fashion show all add up to choice people watching and a very enjoyable afternoon for this incredible southern tradition. Even if you are well past your university days, be sure to check out«College Park», the area of the infield where all of the local colleges bring huge contingents of fraternity boys and sorority girls and set up camp. Worth a walk through there at any age!

This is a huge event. I have been going for years. It’s a great time. The socializing is a lot of fun but I love the race. The horses are beautiful. I’m not an expert on horses but I know I enjoy watching them.

This is the premier social event in South Carolina. It is a little expensive to get in but it is a lot of fun once you get in. Most people are just tailgating and have a good time and not really watching the horse races. The place is packed so remember to go early.
