Shirley’s Brass Rail

Lovely spot located in downtown Camden. The staff is very friendly and is very welcoming. You can tell that they intend on remembering faces and making you feel at home.
I had the cheesesteak wrap and I’d have to say it’s one of the best I’ve ever had. The meat was tender, and the cheese was melted nicely. My only complaint is that the wrap got soggy as I continued to eat. Prices were very good for the amount of food given! Would definitely recommend.

Decent place with minimum comforts. Brass Rail has a nice atmosphere with pleasant staff. The food is standard fare with a few switch-​ups that I enjoy. You get a good amount of food, and it’s usually tasty. Don’t ask for your breakfast potatoes super crispy, though, because you will be disappointed when they’re the standard starchy offwhite. Usually one not entirely clean piece of cuttlery or plateware per table, is my experience. This place is super busy at lunch time though, so it’s still pretty great.

Very decent food here. Got the Chicago burger, which was something like provolone cheese, bacon, onions, and fried green peppers. Good sized bun, didn’t break apart or get soggy. And the fries were the good crinkly kind. Overall pretty solid lunch.

I work in that area of Camden and there aren’t a whole lot of choices if you want to walk somewhere to get lunch but Shirley’s does a good job with your standard diner menu — breakfast all day, hot/​cold sandwiches, salads, etc. Prices are fair and they have no problem ringing each diner up individually (a benefit when lunching with a group).
One of the best places to get a grilled reuben in Camden County.

You ascend the stairs from the Patco station and the sun blasts you in the eyes, it’s too hot and too early in the morning to be in Camden, and when your eyes finally adjust to the circus circus camden, your first thought may be «coffee.» At least mine was, and I saw a shack that advertised fish & eggs and a diner in the form of a row home. I first choose Camden Seafood, but I opened the door and walked into the middle of the police dealing with some kind of a domestic dispute. So I walked out.
And it was as if fate guided my footsteps to the Brass Rail. The place was full of locals & regulars milling about, flirting with the waitresses, talking about the weather, dishing smack on the waitress who called off that morning. The food is typical NJ diner fare, without the congestion. So, I wouldn’t expect anything mind blowing. But it was all well executed and tasty. i had the scrapple and eggs and some rye and a coffee. It hit the spot. I walked out of Shirley’s with a swagger.

When I went to law school in Camden, there were many tense moments where I had to decide between a greasy spoon diner breakfast at Camden Seafood & Deli* across the street or going here for a slightly more upscale eggs & homefries. This place usually won out because of their surprisingly expansive menu and friendlier service.
For lunch, they also have five or six daily specials. I have only been disappointed a few times, like with the wraps that often turn out kind of soggy. Try their salads, which are huge and filling, especially the shrimp caesar. The soups are very good as well.
Either meal, including a drink and tip will run you less than $ 10.
They also deliver, but I’ve never attempted it, so I’m not sure what area they cover.
* Fun fact!: Under the previous ownership, you could get keys made while you ate. I never dared attempt this brilliant synergy but it said you could do it on the menu.
