Good food. Menu could use a few more options. Maybe some additional sandwiches. ** Well I guess never mind, sounds like they went out of business since we last ate there

Great beer selection(although a glass can be pricey — at least $ 6 up to $ 14), the food is okay, takes a little too long to put together for food that’s already prepared but it’s filling and will give you a food coma.

Something a little different, and apparently quite authentic for downtown Campbell. They have around six beers on tap — some good California stuff as well as quite a few Belgian selections and a ton of unusual things in bottles. The prices are generally a little high on the drinks, but they are served correctly and subject to a pretty good happy hour deal. In general, it seems that they participate in a lot of deals, and the food prices are not that bad at all. We tried Kwak on draft(served in the proper glass) and a very strange beer called Pink Killer(pink grapefruit anyone?) available in bottles — refreshing and balanced for a fruit beer. They have a couple sorts of waffles(the Liege waffle is small but crisp and interesting) with a ton of different toppings available. The meatball sliders were particularly interesting, though about a mouthful each. Had to try the meatballs — they offer beef, turkey or a vegetarian/vegan option. Texture was very smooth for all of them, and they were frankly a little bland, though the sauce was nice. Stooflvees — an excellent braised beef stew — was my favorite of the night. Service(you order at the counter) was friendly if not always fast, and the owner came out to talk for a while. Aside from the beer pricing(yes, some of this is fundamentally expensive beer, but the prices struck me as high even for a good Belgian place), a gem of a place to visit in Downtown Campbell … but look for a deal if you do.

What can be better then Friday lunch. Well, we found out what not! I had a cup of soup and the chicken on a puff pastry. Neither had much taste. It seems everyone wanted to eat outside to escape the loud music. I asked for my bread pudding to take home to my wife and she would not eat it after her first bite.

Lunch today; first let me say the server with the dreadlocks was very nice and tried hard to do the right thing. He was great. But; the menu is confusing. The business model is confusing. The food very bland. While we were trying to order a pair of advertising salesman came in and asked to speak to the owner. The owner came out and openly served them over her paying customers. We stood there at the register trying to place our order off an overhead menu and waited and waited. Who does business that way? The owner went back in the kitchen and never even smiled at her customers. Also; the music was loud and very odd. We eat outside to get away from the music and confusion. The place is billed as waffles and beer. They had one waffle entrée and a dozen bottled beers. Again confusing. Bread pudding — no hard sauce, dry and very strange. No way! God help these people, cause they don’t have a clue.

For a change of place, you should try BYR. I have never visited Belgium, so I was interested to see what their food was like. It took us some time with the menu to decide on what to order, and my group of three tried three different entrees. I had the braised beef dish which was great, my son had the meat balls with cherry sauce, and his friend had the Queen’s plate(chicken in pastry). The meat balls with cherry sauce was also very good, and did not taste as strange as it sounds. The stromp(mashed potatoes and spinach) was also great. They also have a great selection of draft beers(several from Belgium, of course) that would be difficult to find anywhere else. They also have some interesting beer glasses for each beer, i. e try the Kwak. Next time I want to try the waffles, which can be customized for breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert.

This place definitely needs some work, but I hope they’ll get there. I like what they are going for with the Belgian theme. My boyfriend and I got the $ 20 for $ 40 of food from LivingSocial. It was a little much that we had to spend it all in one shot, but we just ordered a lot to go, so it worked out. Meatball sub came on a pretzel roll, cool! Vegan meatballs for me were a nice thought. I really appreciate when restaurants make an attempt to satisfy all diets. The vegan meatballs were clearly housemade with lentils, maybe spinach, carrots and some other veggies. They fell apart easily and didn’t taste all that great, but still, any attempt at vegan overall makes me happy. Chervil soup was good. Stoemp was decent too. Nothing amazing though. What’s awesome about this place is they have a great beer selection. We got the 6 beer sampler. Imported. On tap. My kind of place. I highly recommend the Kwak! Best beer of all the samples. As for the waffles, we got those to go. One of the ordinary belgian waffles and one liege. Toppings were lemon curd and white chocolate spread. The belgian waffle was no better or worse than any I’ve had. The liege waffle was a little too dense and doughy for me. Plus, I’ve had more traditional liege waffles before that I’ve loved. This one had cinnamon on it, which wasn’t exactly what I was expecting or to my liking. But you gotta give it to liege waffles in general, that crunchy pearl sugar is just awesome inside a waffle. Lemon curd tasted funky but the white chocolate spread was yummmmmmmmy. And I don’t even normally like white chocolate! And last but not at all least, the Crème Au Beurre Tart(to go). It reminded me vaguely of tiramisu, but the«cake» layers were intentionally more dry. Overall, I thought this was fantastic!!! Even better than tiramisu. The girl that took our order seemed a little impatient and in a huffy-rush, which came off as rude. There was also an older man working behind the counter with her(maybe the owner). He seemed really sweet, so he negates the damage the girl did :) Overall, go for the beer(Kwak) and the Crème Au Beurre Tart. Everything else is okay for now, but hopefully will improve as they sort things out.

Had breakfast here before going to the Campbell Farmers’ Market. My gf and I both had Brussels waffles. Fairly standard Belgian-type waffle, rectangular in shape, and topped with our choices of the approximately 20 or so different toppings. The waffles were crisp, though maybe not quite as crisp as I would have like. Now, I don’t really know what a Belgian waffle is supposed to be like, traditionally, so I cannot speak to its authenticity. I just wish it were a little more brown and crisp. Having a choice of so many toppings is great. They also had some pre-designated combinations you could order. They also have meatballs and side and a lot of beer. The service here was very friendly. I would say, though, that the food seemed to come out a bit slow considering we came in very early and there weren’t that many people there. Nonetheless, the waffles were good and I would come back again.

I feel bad writing a bad review… But I hope they understand me for being honest and hopefully they can improve. I first wanna say everyone here is soooo nice and friendly. I don’t know his name, but the fella making the waffles is funny and really personable. As for the food, they need to really improve. So here it goes: Meatballs: For this being their main dish, it was a huge let down. I ordered the 8 Beef meatballs. When I took my first bite, I was confused because it didn’t really taste like beef. I actually thought they made a mistake and gave me turkey meatballs. I confirmed with the cook and he said those were beef. The meatballs were not hot. It barely had any meat in it. It tasted like… bland turkey stuffing. Pretty much a ball of dough. I was only able to eat it after drenching it in the gravy. I think it’s kinda pricey too, ~$ 11 for the meatballs with 3 sides. Tomato Soup: It was sorta bland. I needed to add a lot of salt. Again, served room temp. Soup wasn’t hot. Stoemp: One of the better items. I liked the bacon served on top and being able to taste the potato. Again! served room temp. It was not hot. Ham rolled asparagus: Bland. Breakfast Waffle: The waffle itself had no flavor. It was cold and the toppings were cold(bacon, egg, ham) Brussels Waffle: I think they messed up on our order. We got charged for missing toppings. Same batter like breakfast waffle. So it was plain and bland. Wasn’t even sweet to be a dessert waffle. The soft serve ice cream didn’t help much either(didn’t even taste like vanilla). Leige Waffle: I think their best item… because it’s full of sugar? Nice and hot and crisp and sugary. Probably the only thing worth trying on the menu. Kinda pricey(~$ 3) for a small waffle. Crème Au Beurre Tarrt: Hmmm… Not sure what to think of this. It tasted like sugary icing. That’s about it. Also pricey,(~$ 4) for a 2x2inch slice. Overall, I was pretty disappointed after seeing all the good reviews. But this place can definitely improve: Serve HOT food, improve the waffle batter recipe, make the meatballs with more meat, less filler.

BYR is a new restaurant located in downtown Campbell. I get the feeling that they are still getting on their feet but it was a decent experience. The menu is a little different from many American menus and may not appeal to everyone. The main dish is meatballs. You can choose from turkey or regular meatballs and a type of sauce. The traditional sauce is a cherry sauce with tart whole cherries. The meatballs were ok, the sauce was good and add some Belgian mustard and it was amazing. You can also choose some sides. I chose the red cabbage which was delicious. I also got the Stoemp which was like mashed potatoes topped with bacon and onions. The stoemp was good but not very hot. I also got a cup of Chervil soup. It was amazing. I was very happy with the soup. The biggest problem is that this is kind of a cafeteria. Everything is heated in warmers and served on a sectioned plate. The food wasn’t as hot as I thought it should be. Also, for the price I expect something a little more than sectioned paper plates and paper cups for soup. BYR also serves a variety of Belgian beers. Some of these are very pricey and you’re not going to get a big 20 oz mug. For dessert, waffles are served. The waffles have a variety of toppings. They looked delicious but I was too full to try one. The owner came over and asked my how my meal was. The service from everyone was great. I feel that the price is a little high for the food. I also feel that the menu doesn’t appeal to everyone and could be difficult to get customers. For the price I would like to see real dishes and real flatware. Overall, this was a great experience and I would definitely return.

very nice people with great customer service. the best item there was stoemp, which is fresh-mashed potatoes with spinach, crumbled bacon, and get this, MUSTARD. I was surprised at this combo of flavors being so tasty! on the flip side, I didn’t care for the beef meatballs with gravy– they were dull and cold.(they reheated them for me but seriously, that didn’t help. the chervil soup looked like lawn cuttings in broth and tasted about as appetizing, whereas the potato & leek soup was flavorful but watery. the coffee was very nice– not your weak American brew but a dark, full-bodied cup. my friend ordered a Breakfast waffle that looked a hot mess and according to her, was hard(the waffle) and the toppings bland. might be worth a second visit to see there is improvement… the stoemp was damn good…

I was born in Belgium and moved to the Bay Area a long time ago. There aren’t many Belgian restaurants around here so I was surprised to find BYR of Belgium. This place offers a very limited menu but what they offer is authentic. Johan(the owner) uses his mother’s recipes and it shows. The flavors and smells brought me back to my mother’s kitchen. His waffles are amazing. And his beer collection itself is worthy of a visit. Any place that offers Kwak on tap and has the right glass to serve it in, deserves to be taken seriously. BYR of Belgium is a great destination in downtown Campbell.

I live in Campbell and have been to Byr twice now. Love the selection of beers that they have and I am on a mission to eventually try ever single one. Definitely reminds me of little places I have been to when I have traveled through Europe. The Blond on tap is one of my FAVORITE beers but I have also had the Pilsner, Downtown Abbey(dark) and a GREAT Sour beer the Cuvee de Jacobins… Sooo yummy if you like sour beer. If you aren’t sure if you will like a sour beer. Try sharing it with someone, they will pour in two glasses for you if you ask. My roommate and I loved it!!! As for the food. I have had several of the dishes thus far. I absolutely love the red cabbage and the prosciutto wrapped asparagus. My roomie had the spinach and bacon salad which was good and the waffle with the cherry sauce was good as well. I just tried the meatballs(beef) with a small amount of each of the sauces. I really liked both the gravy sauce and the cherry sauce a lot. The waffles are good too and I really like the pear looza they have.(the peach was a bit too sweet for me). The staff is super friendly, and the food is pretty good. Love, Love LOVE the beer selection. The menu selections aren’t for everyone, so I suggest for you to try a few different things as you are bound to find something you absolutely LOVE.

I really want to like this place. I’d give it a two and three-quarters if I could. The people are super friendly and they’re trying really hard. I appreciate their efforts and, as JM said. it’s nice to see some creativity… but I have a couple of issues. Let’s get those out of the way first. Paper plates and cutlery. I was surprised to see that and it is a disappointment in this era of ecological awareness. Perhaps they are not set up with the ability to wash a lot of dishes but I just thought, wow what a shame. I did not see a recycling/composting disposal method either, unfortunately. Perhaps I missed it, and I will look again but… either way. Thankfully the beer is served in proper glassware. Spendy. It’s really a little spendy for the cafeteria style setup. I don’t mind paying good money for good food and drink but, for what you’re getting, the atmosphere leaves something to be desired. That being said, the food is good. Not mind blowing. but good. We had the queens bite and it was very nice though the meatballs seem a bit processed. The tomato soup was also good, and the spinach salad was enormous. The potato salad was fresh tasting and not heavy on the mayo… needed a bit of salt… and I enjoyed the pickled white asparagus with prosciutto. Still, it’s just not a place I’d rush back to. I do want to go back to try a waffle, but aside from the occasional hard to find beer(the steffe hendrick quad was *outstanding*) it just doesn’t hold a lot of draw for me. Try it, though, and see what you think. it’s all subjective.

Had the small meatball dish(5 meatballs, 1 sauce [BBQ, gravy, and something else] oh and you get to choose either beef meatballs or turkey meatballs) and 2 sides. I chose: turkey meatballs w/BBQ sauce, vegetable soup(I know this is totally not me but I had to counter-set the dessert I was about to order, that’s why) and stoemp(mashed potatoes w/spinach, bacon, and mustard). This is a get in line, order, and pay establishment. You seat and serve yourself. Don’t be fooled though because service was awesome. I was giddy in line because I was excited for the dessert. I ordered«The Works». You get 3 toppings so because I don’t do fruits, I picked: chocolate shavings, chocolate sprinkles, and butterscotch chips. The nice man delivered this to my table and at that point I did not care about my main entrée. The meatballs was soft, the BBQ sauce was not sweet, the soup was OK(I did not care for it), but the mashed stoemp was unique… I gobbled everything up like I haven’t eaten in days. This was after my hike, after my BBQ fill at Jon Jon’s. I so deserved it!!! «The Works» is enough to make me a repeat customer. Everything melted into the waffle and might I add, the waffle was airy, fluffy, and soft. soft like a cloud. I felt like I was on a cloud when eating it. Of course I finished both. Next time forget dinner. I’m ordering 2 «The Works»! One suggestion for BYR of Belgium– more chocolate options por favor.

Good experience for my first Belgian meal, but not exactly what I expected. You walk in and it’s kinda like you’re at a Subway, where you order, and the person behind the counter puts together your meal with the pre-cooked foods that are in the counter. But aside from that, portions are generous and the meal seemed relatively healthy. I ordered the Queens Bite, which was a flaky pastry filled with a creamy sauce mixed with meatballs and mushrooms. That came with 2 sides, of which I got the Stoemp and Ham wrapped Asparagus. I was definitely satisfied with my meal selection. Besides the food, the service was great. The owner and staff were friendly and helpful. The owner came out and talked to all of the customers and ensured that they had a great experience.

Byr of Belgium in Downtown Campbell is open! Byr is right next to Aqui, Frost, and Sonoma Chicken Coop. They serve a good selection of Belgium beer on tap(Duvel, Liefmans Fruitesse, Kwak, and 4 others.) The décor is a modern clean elegant small café with a Belgium pub-style menu. For $ 8 I had 4 meatballs(2 turnkey, 2 beef) with traditional cherry sauce — think sour cherry more than the sweet stuff. I chose side dishes of red cabbage and stoemp. Stoemp is mashed potatoes and spinach with a side of good spicy mustard. They serve good sized portions. The flavors were lively and fresh. I added a Duvel beer. At $ 10 for a beer I will need to stick to soda or water to maintain my budget. The Duvel was delicious and fresh.(Too bad they don’t serve Genever too.) The menu is labeled«under construction» so it will likely change in the near future. They have vegan ice cream now and are working on vegan meatballs. The owner is lactose intolerant and so the waffles and ice cream are lactose free. Byr is open until 9:30 pm, 10:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. I hope they stay open later. It’s the kind of place I would take a date after a movie or dancing. They make fresh waffles for $ 2 to $ 4. They have a frequent diner program that gives a 1⁄5 free on food items. I’m glad Downtown Campbell has another good selection for food and drink. The PushToTest offices are just on the corner to Byr so I am likely to be a regular customer. Welcome to the neighborhood! On 3/22, this place will have it’s grand opening starting at 6p.m. They’ll be offering free samples of their delicious food as well as samples of beer and wine as well. Check out my pic for more info regarding that. For now, they’re just open in the evening. It’s best to call them to see if they’re open or not before coming here as their hours can be a little erratic. I’ve never had Belgian food before unless you happen to count the Americanized version of the Belgian waffle. I’m now a fan of Belgian food. This small but cute place in Campbell is the only Belgian place that I know of in the Bay Area. The people who work here are nice. I got the mashed potato’s with spinach and bacon with a side of spicy mustard for about $ 2.50. It’s a generous scoop that has lots of spinach in it and is hearty and tasty. I also got the chervil soup with the mini meatballs in it which was delicious as well. I was told by one of the employees there that chervil is like a milder tasting parsley. The soup turned out to be more like a hearty stew. That was $ 5.50. I also got a waffle with fresh strawberries and a berry syrup. Wow, that was good! There are two kinds of waffles there. I got the first one on the menu. It was smaller than I thought it’d be but worth the price. It tasted like a cinnamon bun that’s crispy on the outside and very moist on the inside. They also have a few items for sale there such as Belgian cookies and sweets. There isn’t to much of a selection there for now, but they’re going to expand their menu, so after they officially open, more items will be available. There is a large parking structure right by this little café. This place is small and easy to miss, but it’s located near Aqui’s. I hope that this place will remain a part of downtown Campbell for a long time.

Great new addition to the south bay dining scene. Each dish has a special significance to the owner, and the flavors reflect this attention. I loved the potato/spinach dish. It has a hint of bacon and is greatly improved with the accompanying mustard. The cabbage was great as well. I tried the turkey meatballs and really enjoyed them. Uncle Russ makes all kinds of wonderful desserts. Try the bread pudding… There’s even a lactose free version. The waffles are wonderful as well!

First of all, I think it’s AWESOME that there’s traditional Belgian food being introduced here. The owner of the place actually came over after we were done eating to politely ask how things were. Then he explained that the food is stuff his mom back in Belgium would cook for him – very traditional Belgian home cooking. D’aww how wonderful. Very pleasant guy! I think it’s important to note that a lot of people may not be entirely accustomed to the Belgian taste. The three people I was eating with used the word«different» to describe the food – in regards to the side dishes, soup, and meatballs. The portions are a bit modest, so a bigger person would probably have to order a dessert/salad/soup in addition to feel full. The chicken videe(queen’s bite) was my fav savory item! It’s shredded chicken, mini meatballs, and cream sauce in a puff pastry. Highly recommend! The meatballs were decent with a good variety of sauces to choose from. Mixed reviews about the stoemp, which is spinach and mashed potato. The others I was with complained that it was really bland. I personally don’t mind bland so I ate it happily. I really liked the soup I had, but it’s very unfortunate that I’ve forgotten the name of it! It’s something belgian. like chrivel or something. Just get the one with a weird name! It reminds me of split-pea soup but not really… and a tastier version of it. We all loved the waffles though. The Brussels waffle with three toppings on it was uh-may-zing. You should add Slagroom(belgian style whipped cream) and chocolate shavings. Those were a crowd pleaser(by crowd, I mean the four of us eh, heh) You should go to their grand opening on March 22 from 6−7pm! get free samples! I had a sample of their bread pudding and i LOVED it.
