This is a fantastic hair salon! All the staff is wonderful. Amy was on time and started working on my hair at the appointment time we set up. She cleaned up all my split ends, gave me bangs again and layered my hair to make it look full. It is a clean place. I already set up another appointment. Thanks Amy!

I was so bummed out to find out my stylist Stacia had left Hair Mechanics. I don’t want to go anymore because she was the bright light in the place and my sacrifice they had no wifi which sucks when you have to wait so much time with color on your hair not to mention the horrid smell coming from the nail salon next door. I always just dealt with it because Stacia was amazing and offers the most outstanding head massage at the shampoo bowl that I’ve ever had!
I was excited to find out she’s just next door at Innovators Salon which is right next door, literally 2 doors down and I had no idea! Yay!
Beside that Hair Mechanics offers a convenient location right next to Starbucks, just like Innovators. I’ll post a review for the new salon also.

Go to Laura! She has amazing talent! She’s been the only one I trust with my hair since cosmetology school… Have short hair and want it to grow faster? She’s your girl! Had my hair trimmed for first time in over a year in nov (?), took about an inch or two to blend it all together. It’s longer than when I came in originally!

After seeing some of Stacia’s past work, I knew I needed to go to her for vibrant colored highlights. WOW, what an amazing job she does! She’s very detail oriented, precise with her color, and has a great selection of super vibrant hues to choose from. The times I’ve gone to see Stacia, I’ve left feeling fantastic about the way my hair looks, and get many compliments.

Stacia at Hair Mechanics is the absolute BEST!!! I just love her and what she has done to my hair. I have very long and thick dark brown hair that I had tortured with my OTC «cover my gray» die jobs… and I was a repeat offender at that. And every time I’d find myself heading back to Stacia at Hair Mechanics to «undo» what I had done to my do. She is just fabulous! Her color and cut work is phenomenal, she is an excellent communicator and listener, and always consults the shop owner before moving forward with a process/​color/​treatment, etc. that she’d like to do to my hair «before» moving forward… and she is always spot on! Not to mention that she is super sweet, kind and full of personality! She totally ROCKS, her prices can’t be beat. and she is always looking to build her clientele… I HIGHLY recommend Stacia! So call and make your appt. today!

Hands down best first time experience!!! I just added a photo of my hair done by Cassy and she did an amazing job!!! I showed her a photo I found on Pinterest and she brought it to life an EXACTLy what I wanted! Perfect cut and perfect style… Perfect coloring!!! It was complicated and she made it so easy to do!!! See Cassy and it will be worth every cent you pay!!!

Was at hair mechanics yesterday and witnessed the owner, Ariel, perform a hair cut and style on a 9month old boy with his Mom… What a great job, the mom was happy and the little boy looked great!

Stacia did a color correction and she did a great job! And you can’t beat there prices !!! Ask for her you won’t be disappointed.

I have to say I was scared to death going to a new stylist. But, Laura at Hair mechanics was totally great! I can’t say enough about how professional and sweet she is and her work is outstanding! She made me look ten years younger and the price is very affordable ! I won’t go to anyone else! Thanks Laura !
Ps I have really long hair so I was there awhile and I can honestly say these are the most personable, nicest, and just a bunch of awesome people! From the owner… right down to every stylist!

Stacia is awesome! Been going to her for years, she listens to what you want and am always happy with my results/​Recently did an ombré on my waist length hair and it was super affordable!

Stumbled upon Hair Mechanics on Unilocal while looking for a new salon after moving to San Jose from Seattle. I made an appointment with Stacia and I have to say, I’m so pleased with the results. Stacia is excellent! She listens to what I want and is happy to make changes to make sure I’m happy. Their prices are extremely reasonable and the salon is so friendly! I highly recommend them, and Stacia for sure!

Great value. Great cuts. I have gone to Stacia a number of times. She gives a great cut for guys at a reasonable price. I would highly recommend her.

I guess I won’t be the first to rave about Amy and Ariel of Hair Mechanics :-) Amy has been my hair stylist for 15 years and I have stayed with her during her career at three different salons. Amy truly is a great stylist because she is realistic and honest in a very diplomatic way. She is also zany and fun — no matter what is going on with her, she always seems to handle life with grace and humor. I have terrible hair to work with (fine AND thin) and she has always managed to get the best out of my hair, and also talk me out of some of my stupider ideas for styles and colors. She is especially adept working with color and always managed to mix just the right shade for me. I’ve been really happy with all my various shades of highlights over the years. Both Ariel and Amy did hair and make up for a bevy of girls at my wedding and absolutely everyone was impressed with the result. I would recommend Amy or Ariel without reservation for both hair and make up. I can’t comment on price because I haven’t been to any other stylist for so long, but the prices seem absolutely reasonable for the level of service and result you get.

I look forward to going to Hair Mechanics often; I have an appointment every six to eight weeks. Amy is THE AWESOMEST. When I moved to SJ in 2006, a friend referred me to her, luring me in with the ridiculously low prices, but now I consider Amy a personal friend… and so will you if you go to her. She’s hilarious, fun, sweet, and wicked smart, so it’s always a treat to visit her. And the prices are amazing. My hair is short and many-​colored, so I’m used to paying high prices, but I now pay literally one-​third what I paid in Chicago for cut & color. Amy has also given me recommendations for manicurists, boy haircuts (for my roommate), and a truly pain-​free eyebrow waxer. I have not seen any other Hair Mechanics stylists, but if Amy is ever out of commission for a while, I would… well, I would take Amy’s recommendation, but I suspect she’d send me to the salon’s owner, Ariel.

I have been going to Hair Mechanics for about 4 years or so, but followed my hairdresser Amy there from a previous place because she is so awesome! She Can deal with the smallest child to the elderly and the funky chick with the blue/​red/​purple hair and mowhawk! She does it all, and does it with great character. She has great hair also, which is a plus and changes it often — which is fun for me to watch, every time i go to see her it’s fun to see what new do she has. She also doesn’t charge crazy prices either for the great job she does, which is also great for me (a student) I recommend her! She’s usually a month overbooked so call in advance!
Also the rest of the shop is great and full of color and flavor, the owner Ariel did my hair in an updo for an event, which turned out great, and was affordable, and she was fast. Ariel is much like Amy, (and they are friends) Shes crazy and fun and crack jokes constantly. I never had my hair dyed by her, but i know if Amy was ever unavailable, i would feel completely comfortable in her hands because i see her all the time when i go to see Amy, and she make a point to come talk to me.

Hair Mechanics really is awesome. I was referred to Amy by a friend and have made the drive from Foster City every time I need a haircut ever since. It’s really hard to find a hairdresser that is fun, hip, willing to try new things but also knows when to talk you out of a bad idea (or works with you to make a good compromise). It’s also really hard in the Bay Area to find a place somewhere in between the snobbery and prices of salons and the nasty «oops did I just cut your ear?» of supercuts, magic cuts, etc.
ps. don’t judge them based on my long uncolored hairstyle in the pic, that was before I found Amy!
I have really thick curly hair and Amy has worked with me through every mood… from my «let’s let it be curly, make it work» mood to my «how the heck can I tame this, let’s make it sleek» mood. Her highlights are well placed, and every time I’ve gone I’ve been charged the same, whether it’s all over color, one highlight, or lots of highlights so there’s no surprises. Very very reasonable pricing.
I haven’t reviewed her yet because I haven’t wanted other people to know about her, but just promise me not to take Saturday morning spots and give her a call! I also hear great things about all the other stylists and see great results while I’m there. Always a fun time spent at Hair Mechanics!

Hair Mechanics is one of the best salons I have ever been to. Ariel is AMAZING she is also the owner. She has been doing my hair for years and she always makes it look just the way I want it to. Her product stays in for a very long time; my color never fades. Ariel is always up on the new hair styles, She also does weddings and events. If you need your hair done you know were to go… Hair Mechanics! You’ll love it! Oh book a few weeks to a month in advance.
