The food is subpar, and the older woman who works here is EXTREMELY rude. Cuts you off in the middle of talking and gives you an attitude the entire time you’re in here. I wish I could say this has only happened once, but it happens every time we come in. It’s not just us that she does this to. As we wait for our food, she does it to everyone who comes in. Customer service should always come first especially when you are such a small business in such a small town. It’s no secret that word travels fast and they will lose more and more business.

Terrible customer service. Went in there at 2:40, they close at 3 on Mondays, the lady at the counter said«closed. It’s on the sign outside the door.» Wouldn’t suggest going here. They also don’t know how to cut a wrap the right way. Definitely some of the most unfriendly people to be working in the restaurant business.

It a town of nearly 3000 people I feel that customer service would be a top priority.(word travels fast) However, to these owners it did not seem very important. If a customer comes into your shop 20 minutes before you close I would think you would still serve them. Instead, my friend and I received a «We’re closed» the sign on the door did not say closed and the hours on the websites said they were open for 20 more minutes. Incredibly rude considering we are locals of this area, I will not be spending anymore money here. Instead I’ll have stop and shop make my deli sandwiches which are of equal quality. Suggestion to the owner if you want to keep your business in a small town like Canaan… Don’t turn customers away.

Not many places to eat in this town. This is a deli and better than eating at subway. Although, it doesn’t seem like they like outsiders. I have been in there many times and they are like robots. I always try to be friendly and they never say anything more than, «how can I help you?», and at the nf of the sale«thank you very much.» Although, when the locals come in, their whole demeanor changes and they are much more friendly. As for the food, I would rather go to Stop and Shop, more choices of cold cuts, cheeses, and much friendlier staff. Every time I get a sandwich, there is not enough dressing and I have to choke down my dry sandwich. I have asked for extra dressing and instead of giving me two drips of dressing, they up it to three drips.

Def old school. The downtown of my hometown is admittedly in rough shape right now, as many businesses are turning over, closing, et al. There are few good places to eat in Canaan. Besides our three pizza /Italian restaurants(which is clearly necessary in a town of 3,000+ people), our few all-American places, and the historical Collin’s Diner(and thank goodness for that place), the food scene is lacking. But! Olde School Deli seems to fill the deli gap the town has, surprisingly. As for my sandwich, I… wasn’t too impressed. Then again, I was splitting it with my aunt and she just wanted turkey, lettuce, and mayo on flimsy wheat bread. I’m sure if I ordered a roast beef with lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese, and mayo on a hard roll, I would have been much more satisfied. Prices are right. $ 4 — 7 for any sandwich, just based on a quick glance of the menu. The menu was pretty extensive too, with sandwiches, grinders, paninis, and the like. I have a feeling this place is much more hopping on weekdays than weekends, when our town figuratively hibernates. I hope so. You got to support local businesses!
