This is a great place to take kids to show them what life was like before smart phones although there was one girl there walking around staring at her phone on one of those stupid selfie sticks not even noticing what a special place this was right on front of her for her own two eyes to see, I swear smart phones make some people pretty stupid but hey somebody has to become a politician in the future. What a refreshing place to go and my 2 year old loved petting all the animals. This is well worth the trip and we plan on going back for some of the events and classes. The people there are volunteers and dress up like they did in the 1800s but not in a creepy pilgrim kind of way. You can pump water the old fashioned way and water the garden, there are all kinds of old knick knacks everywhere that you can play with and no mean old lady yelling at you. My 2 year old loved the baby animals!

Every bird in Ohio is in this park. Follow the covered bridge trail around sunset to hear and see dozens of species of birds. The hiking trails are nice. There are several spots where you are near the stream/river and the sound of water on the rocks is very musical. Slate Run reminds me of Highbanks, but without the city sounds and people. I’m looking forward to going back because I haven’t seen the wetland area and the park brochure says this is where the birds really come to party which is hard to believe considering the crazy amount of birds in other areas. Fantastic metropark, five stars.

Love going there. I usually don’t go to parks by myself being a women. I have no problems walking all around there. Very clean, very relaxing. Have no problem talking my grandchild Wirth me. Great play ground for children. There are places to bbq. And fish.

This park is quiet and about as far as you can get from city life, while still being close to the city.

Slate Run Metro Park has quite the blend of nature and history to explore. The myriad of trials provide access to forest, ravine, grasslands, and a restored wetland. There is a man-made lake, Buzzard’s Roost, that allow for fishing and observing of waterfowl. One of the trails takes you across a restored covered bridge from the 1800s, and this park is also home to the Slate Run Living Historical Farm, which is definitely worth a visit while you’re there. History lovers should check out the signage around both, which provide some interesting details. The bridge had a little trip to get where it is today. The wetlands have their own separate entrance and parking area available. That trail offers overlooks and boardwalks to allow good access to viewing the area. Both standard play equipment and a Natural Play Area are available for kids. There are two shelters with picnic areas, a bridle trail, and some short trails for pets.
