Just okay, needed more seasoning and the rice and peas not good. I had Chicken Stew and mine was over cook(over cooked and it was Dark Meat).

One of the joys of moving into a larger city are the options that you have when it comes to places o eat. Up until this point, when it came to Caribbean food, I had been resigned to the fact that Ena’s(In Linden) was the go-to place. And even though their food is exceptional… I like options. So… imagine my surprise when I came upon this place one Sunday evening!!! Now it’s customary that I cook Sunday dinner, EVERY Sunday. I’m from The South and that’s just how I was raised. But this Sunday, I just didn’t feel like it.(I’m sure my Grandma is turning in her grave) I quickly reviewed the place and saw that they had wonderful reviews and figured I’d give it a shot. OMG!!! What a wonderful world this could be!!! LOL!!! The first thing that stood out to me was the portion size, you TRULY get what you pay for! And the flavors were amazing and about as authentic as you would get. I was pleasantly surprised and enthusiastic!!! Now, don’t get me wrong… Ena’s is STILL wonderful but as this place is closer to me and it allows me to not have to drive 45 minutes across town… they’ll be seeing more of me very soon!

The food is good. I got the jerk ribs, ox tails and curry goat. The ribs were tender and full of flavor. The ox tails were a little bland and the curry on the goat was a little weak to me but good nevertheless.

If you want a real and authentic taste of the Caribbean, this is your place! Val’s is family owned and operated and you can most certainly tell by the pleasant service. Val started her restaurant in New York many years ago and moved to Columbus. She cooks the food everyday. Since I am such a Caribbean food buff, I can tell alot about the authenticity by the taste of the jerk chicken. This chicken, my friend, is the real real deal. I ordered jerk chicken, side of rice and peas with jerk sauce on top, cabbage, mac and cheese and plantains. Sweet plantains are my weakness and they were everything I would have hoped for. Mac and cheese was great… not salted which is my preference. Cabbage was delicious and rice and beans weren’t dry like most other Caribbean places I have been. Meal portions are more than generous. You can most definitely tell this food is cooked with love. The jerk chicken was perfect. She allows you to chose your level of hotness. …I love spicy. She uses scorpion peppers/onions which give you a hot sensation down your throat after you swallow. I like to compare this to taking a shot of whisky. You feel/taste after the fact. Val also makes the famous irish moss jamaican drink which is an all natural drink made with seaweed. Hence the«moss» in the title. It’s amazing and tastes like a vanilla cinnamon milkshake. Gives you natural energy. I made the trip from north columbus to Val’s and it exceeded my expectations. It was nice to finally try a new taste. They also offer seating in the dining area and have air conditioning. I was very impressed with the service, taste and overall presentation. Definitely worth the trip. Believe me, your stomach will thank you!

The food is great. I am West African and can cook Caribbean food pretty well but this is authentic. They always run out of oxtails and goat though. That’s depressing. I will surely not lie. lol

I was so excited to hear a Caribbean joint had open up on my side of town so I don’t have to drive 40 minutes across town anymore for my craving. Val’s is very generous with the portion side and the jerk chicken had a good kick of spice. It was perfect because it wasn’t too spicy. Rice peas, cabbage, and fried plantains were also good. Jerk chicken was a tad but on the saltier side but still yummy! I would reccommend!
