Everything else was booked on a mid-June weekend so we ended up here. It was NOT easy to find with misleading signs and directions but once we got there we found a classic Americana style motor lodge. Apparently a one-man operation, $ 67(compared to rates of $ 120+ closer to Asheville) got us am immaculately clean but dated hotel room. Air conditioning worked well, the gentleman operating the place was kind, pleasant, personable and efficient. No ice or soda machines but he had them at front desk. Sodas were 75 cents and ice free. No food in immediate area but there was a TA Travel Stop convenience store and gas station with a 24 hour Country Pride restaurant five minutes drive away. Papa Johns pizza delivery came in less than 30 minutes. The king sized bed was comfortable and we didn’t even realize the place had filled up overnight. No deadbolt on the door, dated but clean-looking and smelling furniture, pretty small fiberglass shower enclosure, no tub. No blow dryer in room and we didn’t try out the wifi but did see the signal. Good verizon cell reception in room however. We would stay here again; the owner-operator was sincere and just plain nice. The USA like it was in the 50s I imagine. Oh there was a fridge and microwave in the room.

Note to self, always book a hotel in advance for a holiday weekend or you might end up here. My buddy and I found this place after all the major chains were booked on Memorial Day weekend. Here is what 80 dollars(holiday rate) can get ya– 1) a room with a broken lock, to which we were upgraded to another room with a simple lock and no deadbolt 2) paper thin walls as we could hear everyone else talking or tv 3) it felt like a 9am checkout… or at least that is the time that the owner started to vacuum. 4) what wifi? And you might need shower shoes… It was pretty hard to sleep with the racket going on
