Canoe Creek State Park is yet another beautiful Pennsylvania State Park worth exploring. Canoe Creek State Park is a 958 acre park that offers many different things to do such as Boating, Fishing, and swimming on the 155 acre lake. Canoe Creek also offers 8 Miles of Hiking Trails and 1 Mile of Biking Trail that pass through a number of different habitats. They also offer 3 large Pavilions, and many sections of picnicking as well as Cabin Rentals for those who want to stay a little longer than a day. Canoe Creeks claim to fame is the large population of brown bats that call the park home. On some warm spring, and summer nights they give guided tours to groups to a local church in the park boundaries that is now used as a home for bats. You can watch the bats come out in early evening, and head off into the park for the night. They also do guided tours to what they call the Bat Caves where the brown bats spend their winters. Another great attraction of Canoe Creek are the Limestone Kilns. Huge Kilns built long ago line a large section of forest by a stream. A great place for families to take kids to explore as the Kilns somewhat resemble castles with small entrance ways weaving in and out of each other. Overall Canoe Creek is a great place to spend the day hiking around or just relaxing by the water. A great Pennsylvania State Park.

This ia cool little state park next to Altoona. The coolest thing they have there is an old Church that has a large little brown bat colony that’s home to about 20,000 bats in the summer. They have educational programs and tours in the summer, but nothing cool in the winter. Also they have a set of old Kilns that you can hike back to and check out. that’s how they made steel a long time ago, they’d superheat these giant furnaces with charcoal and wood and it’d get hot enough to melt it. They are like 100 years old and still in pretty good condition. Also if you look carefully around this place you can find some Amish going down the road in their buggies.
