River Runners at The Royal Gorge

This was the second time with these folks, back in 2008 I did a 3 day run and wanted my kids to come when they were old enough. This week we had a great time and my 2008 guide still works there! In fact a lot of the guides with River Runners have been there a long time and their experience with the river and making my family, boy 8 and girl 10 and my wife feel comfortable and confident was great. We did a full day and had the best time and my kids are telling everyone they meet and their friends how great a time they had. Thank you again River Runners!

I wanted to go whitewater rafting, so we booked this full day trip on the Bighorn Sheep Canyon. After booking, I read online that the water flows were really intense on the river. When we get there, we noticed that he water was running 4000 cfs, which is quite scary. The Royal Gorge was closed and the Bighorn Sheep Canyon was insane. We went to pick up our gear and they were super friendly helping you get what you need to have a safe and wonderful trip on the water. We got in the van and I was starting to have second thoughts about getting on the water. Then, they told us that we were going to start a little farther back down the river, so we can still get some nice rapids, but it was too dangerous to do the entire Bighorn Sheep Canyon. I am so glad they did because when we were driving past the water it was more of class 4 – 5 and not the 2 – 3. I appreciate that they took our safety into consideration. We had the most amazing guide, John. He was awesome and made us feel comfortable and put my concerns at ease. He told us about the scenery and answered every question that we had. We had a small group and I am so happy that I chose this outfitter and decided not to chicken out. We had so much fun that we booked another trip to the Browns Canyon.

This past June saw my fourth rafting trip with River Runners through Bighorn Sheep Canyon. My guides over the years have all been different, but they have each been fun, knowledgeable about the area, and professional. Their half-​day prices are comparable to other Colorado outfitters (pay extra for splash guards and water shoes).
Our most recent guide, Tara, was super — she was obviously experienced, and her confidence helped boost mine. She didn’t do anything crazy but still chose great lines through the rapids. It was an excellent time for newbies and veteran rafters alike! You see, this trip was especially meaningful. I had had a bad experience on a previous trip with a different company 4 years ago (organized by some coworkers), and I am not joking when I say I had PTSD afterwards. Therefore, when the in-​laws decided on a rafting trip with the kids in early July, I decided it was time to face my fears. It was serendipitous that they chose River Runners, the company I’ve trusted over the years.
My only complaint is that the women’s restroom doesn’t have enough amenities for the number of customers. It’d be nice if there were more benches, perhaps another toilet and sink, and one more privacy wall or curtain.
Professional photos are uploaded to the TV pretty much immediately (no obligation to buy). Plenty of parking on the dirt lot, and their huge sign will ensure you won’t miss the turn-​off.

We had a fantastic time with River Runners. Our trip guide Tara was great at our safety briefing and hilarious and informative as well. Our guide in our boat was Mel and she was fantastic. We took the half day Big Horn Canyon trip. She was great at giving encouraging coaching for our rafting ride as well as great information and lots of fun along the way. She and the other guides were also really focused on safety and we felt great about that.
We will probably do a full day trip the next time we go or maybe just the Royal Gorge portion. I hope we can request Mel as our guide. She’s awesome.

Very knowledgable and professional guides! We did the ½ day on the Arkansas with two 10 year olds in our party. It was perfect! I highly recommend River Runners and will use them whenever we come back!

Our family did the big horn route and it was perfect of little ones. The service was great and all the guides were nice. If you are in Pueblo or Cañon City, definitely visit these guys. You’ll have fun, I promise!
Oh, and plan on spending extra on the pictures. They are a bit pricy, but when you see them you’ll be excited about them. Great pics! Consider going in together on the pics with the other people in your raft. You may be able to save some money and you can just email the pics to each other.

The guides there had answers for every question I had. They recommended the perfect campsite, they gave us an awesome food recommendation, and they knew everything about the river. The rafting trip was so much fun, I wish it could have lasted longer. The guides got us set up with gear and on the river really quickly, and once we were on the river it was clear that our guide Luke is an expert. It was nice to be on the river with someone who is so comfortable but still enjoys their work. All around amazing experience, from booking to the trips completion.

Great rafting trip with river runners. Our guide was Erik and he was very knowledgable of the river and made it an awesome trip! Everyone made it down safe and we have actually had him as our guide three other times.

Awesome trip and awesome guide!
I really feel like a guide could make or break this experience and our guide was amazing! Not only was he knowledgeable on the river and great at maneuvering us through the rapids, we were the only ones giving high fives with our paddles and doing 360s while other companies were going straight down the river.
Our guide also had some great advice for after the trip, the Skyline Drive was beautiful and the shakes and Big Burger World were the best we’ve ever had!

We went right after the Royal Gorge Fires in 2013 as the first run down after they opened the canyon back up to river rafting for commercial trips.
Price was great, the experience was awesome with my son and some friends and partners.
John, our guide did a fantastic job. We will use them again for sure!

Epic day on the Royal Gorge even though low flow at (400 cfs approx). Justin was friendly, knowledgable, and passionate about paddling.
