OMgoodness! This place is so YUMMY! It smells amazing as soon as you walk in. Friendly atmosphere. Cute and quaint. I had the chicken salad sandwich. Amazing! My husband says this place is «legit». If you are in the area it is worth the stop.

This place is awesome !! We came for the first Monday Trade and passed by this place. The name of the restaurant itself is a catch. We were not disappointed because the food was delicious. And the service was also awesome. The chicken fried steak came out pippin hot !!

Just finished eating at Buttermilk’s and it was delicious! We had the chicken fried steak and it was definitely one of the best I’ve ever had. Save room for dessert, because the peach cobbler with ice cream is definitely worth finishing your meal off with. The waitstaff was very attentive and friendly as well. It’s a bit of a small restaurant so get there early if you’re going on a busy weekend like Market Days or else you’ll have to wait.(But probably worth the wait anyways).

This is home cooking. Starting with the fried trio: fried pickles, fried green tomatoes, fried green beans(which taste like green bean casserole) with a side of ranch. Southern perfection. Followed by a very green leafy salad, and then a BLT. The sandwich could not have been better. I added fried green tomatoes and it was perfect. Very thick, tons of flavor, plenty of bacon. There was a little bit of food envy watching the massive chicken fried steaks come out, but the taste of everything I got was perfect. The servers were very busy, but constantly friendly. Definitely a reliably great place to go for lunch or dinner.

The beans cooler in bacon are worth coming for on their own. I can see why they have won awards for the chicken fried steak.

Went on a Friday. Place was almost full. Service was slow, but they had large group in back. Our party had chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken. Both were large and quite good. Fried green beans were delicious. Crisp and flavorfull without being greasy. Fried okra also delicious. Portion sizes are good. Service is friendly but a little slow. Will try desert next time.

Well-crafted, homemade comfort food with a Southern twist. A balance of healthy and not-quite choices, all of them good. Pies are solid.

Very good food! My family had chicken fried steak, burgers, chicken strips, fried green tomatoes and chicken fried steak sandwich… yum! Good home cooked food! Service was great at the counter. Went back the next day for dessert, pecan cobbler and blackberry cobbler. Was not disappointed. Had same server(long black hair, didn’t get her name), will go back when I’m passing through Canton.

We were in Canton for first Mondays. We were not expecting great food in a small town but I can tell you that this was EXCELLENT. the staff made us feel right at home and OH. MY. GOSH. the food was delicious. We had the chicken fried steak and fried catfish. Everything was superb right down to the made-on-site tartar sauce. Highly recommended!

Great home style cooking! I had the chicken fried chicken and my husband had the chicken fried steak with red skin mashed potatoes & gravy and fried okra. The homemade pies looked so good, but we were too full to eat it. Will have to come back sometime for the pie and coffee.

Great home cooking. Be sure and get the fried green beans and ranch. They were the best I’ve had anywhere. The chicken fried chicken is amazing.

ATTENTION: Buttermilk’s is not only a noted diner… it’s a destination if you’re traveling to or through Canton, TX. From the famous Buttermilk Pies, to the great cobbler and hot coffee… this is a must do, when visiting the largest flea market you’ll ever see… I approve this eatery and strongly recommend visiting. 4-stars… and bring your cam to capture some town square photos…

«Scratch cooking»? I don’t think so. The gravy was obviously from a mix. The chips with the BLT tasted like they were from a bag. The batter on the chicken fried steak was not bad… but the steak was not tenderized nearly enough. I had a bite of my husband’s BLT, and it was sad, just sad. The«chipoltle ranch dressing» tasted neither of chipotle nor of ranch. I’d be surprised if it wasn’t Miracle Whip. But… the carrot cake. Very moist. Delicous cream cheese icing. HUGE portion… enough for 2 – 3. And order the pickle chips, because they fried pickles and the homemade buttermilk dipping sauce is on point.

We went to Buttermilk’s last weekend and it was fantastic. We ate chicken fried steak, a burger and the turkey melt. The CFS was truly home made, the burger was super juicy and the turkey on the turkey melt was a slab, not pre-cut slices. From here on out I will plan my trips to Louisiana just so that I can eat here on the way through.

Props to Unilocal for putting me on to this place. We are talking old-school town square diner action here. This place is small, and seating is limited. you can grab a seat at the old soda fountain bar if no tables are open. It’s clean, and the staff is very friendly. The menu is pretty much burgers, salads, and sammiches. I tried the chicken fried chicken, it was hand breaded and excellent. I sat at the bar and stared at the pie case the entire meal. Finally, I gave into the Siren’s call of the pie. The buttermilk chess pie was«slap your momma good.» And I might really have done so had she been with me. It was that good.
