The Italian Oven in Canton closed around 2003. It was part of a chain that filed for Bankruptcy. «Sahara Grill»(a middle-eastern style restaurant) is now in its place. Italian Oven was a great place when it was around. Their pizzas were always wood-fired, and the food was consistent. I was sad to see it go.
It’s been a while, but here’s what I remember about the Italian Oven. The tables were always covered with a sheet of paper and a cup of crayons were at every table so you could doodle while you were waiting for your food. I remember drinking my refreshments through a straw that was actually a hollow pasta noodle. When you walk in the front door, you can see through a wall of glass into the kitchen where they are preparing the homemade pizzas in all kinds of odd shapes where they would then be slid into the brick ovens. Those pizzas were so good! I always enjoyed my trips to the Italian Oven. This would be a great place to bring kids, too. They will get a kick out of watching pizzas be prepared through the window. Hey, how often do you get to sip your drink through a pasta straw and color on the table?
