I am really picky about pastries! If it is over four hours old then it is stale in my opinion! Christina Ullum turned my wife and I on to this maker of ambrosia! She brought home som donuts, cream sticks, and a blueberry fritter that my wife was ready to fight for the last one! We went in today about one thirty and found a reasonable selection for an afternoon stop. Most donut shops in the Permian Basin oilfields are sold out around ten AM. We filled a standard sheet cake box with the kind of pastries that oilfield hands and ranch hands will ride for two hours to be first in line for at five when most donut shops open. The kind ladies were out of Maple anything but in just a few minutes had w stick in the oil and low and behold I had a Maple Cream Stick. Can you say gone to Heaven without dying. Unilocal only allows five stars or I would have given this place ten. OH, did I say the ladies running the bakery were super friendly and everything a small business owner wants when they interact with the public! If you are in need of a sugar fix and live within a hundred miles of Johnny’s then this is the place to go for your desert needs.

I’ve only been here once and it was well over a year ago. I looked at their facebook and was excited to see they had maple bacon donuts, but I didn’t see any in the store. Well I went there because my mom was getting married and it was just going to be a small ceremony and we wanted a small cake. Now, cake is cake, right? But I was very impressed with the taste! Seriously I will probably never go to anyplace different if I need a cake. Although, can’t say the staff was remarkably helpful or nice. Kinda felt like, «I’m here whenever you want to buy something»

Yeah… ok I don’t really care for donuts which is the bread and butter(no pun intended) of Johnnie’s. However, of the donuts I’ve had they are about as good as they come. I am a fan of the crullers and the bear claws in particular. They also have Angello’s bread for sale — which is a really good local bread maker and restauranteur(See 7th street Café located in Aultman Hospital — which is right around the corner from Johnnie’s). The coffee is solid and all the baked goods are fresh. For what they are known for they do a great job, so skip the krispy kreme’s and hit up Johnnie’s.

FIVE Stars Bakery if every aspect. Off the beaten path, going west on Tuscarawas Street and around a corner. Every single item is out of the ordinary goodness times 10. I always pick up dinner rolls, hamburger and hot dog buns before sweets. I’ll let you try those yourself. On street parking in front and quick friendly sevice. Has been in business here a long time.

Initially I wanted to go to Johnnie’s because of the smell. When I drove by, wow did it smell amazing. Let me tell you, I am not by any means a sweets fan. Give me coffee and I am your friend for life. But the smell coming from the vents melted my heart. I went in with my dad and the apple fritter may be one of the best things I have had in a long time. If I had the constraint I would have bought a loaf of peppercini cheese bread make fresh. Coffee, grade A good. Nothing special about the inside other than service with a smile and they offered a refill in a to go cup without me even asking. A++++
