Here on a Wednesday night and I one else is in the restaurant. We were worried but sat at the sushi bar anyways. We ordered a volcano roll and a Kamikaze roll. Both were super delicious! Would definitely come here again!

You’ll find something you like here, thanks to their large menu. The service is great — friendly and fast. The décor inside is very modern, mixed with 1980s, mixed with an antique Chinese feel … it’s hard to explain. All you need to know is that it’s worth coming here. The food is reasonably priced for the portion size, along with being very fresh, so it’s one of the best Asian places in the Farmington Valley.

Ordered delivery from here and the potions were huge! We didn’t get to finish everything but what we did have was great! Can’t comment on the service + ambience but the food was great.

I like it here, never disappointed, nice to order a lunch special & bring it home, watch some Netflix and enjoy. Been here many times, even for my wedding anniversary. Plus, they have spicy miso A+

I thought this dining experience could have been for a few reasons. First of all, the service really felt like they were rushing us through the meal from beginning to end. I like to feel like I have some time to relax between courses. As for the food, the sushi roll that I got was fine. I also got a side of miso soup that was not very flavorful to me. It actually tasted pretty watery and was disappointing. I also got a sake sangria which was too sweet for me. I was a bit disappointed in the dessert options, as not many of them were Asian desserts except for a few ice cream flavors. The dessert that my boyfriend requested they were out of. I settled on a tiramisu and I found it too sweet and a little dry. My conclusion would be that Mikado would be fine for sushi takeout or a quick bite of sushi, but it does leave a bit to be desired in the overall dining experience.

I did not sit down to eat so I cannot comment on the service there. I will say the interior is nice, relaxing feel to it, not a place that would be terrible to sit down to a meal. The menu is a bit over the map, but it is fusion cuisine so. The food that I had was GOOD. Though I didn’t have sushi, the pad thai was amazing. Hopefully a few more trips here so I can sample more.

I’m so excited to have a great, reasonably priced sushi restaurant in the area! We have been a few times for dinner, and the sushi has been fantastic every time.(I’m pretty picky, so this is big news.) The fish has been fresh and the menu is creative. Can’t wait to go back!

Although the old Rice Fields wasn’t that pretty, I felt that the service was way friendlier, I felt welcomed and the staff always had a smile. Mikado’s food is good and consistent however today the owner tossed my credit card at me because he was too busy watching TV. The staff has been very rude in the past as well. Basically the food is good but the service sucks. I decided to write a review today because the terrible customer service has happened so many times. At one point we thought they were just having a rough day. News flash! This is the way their customer service is. Today, if I wasn’t hungry after leaving work I would have walked out and purchased sushi elsewhere.

3 and ½ stars: To summarize if you don’t want to read it all: good food and really crappy service the majority of the time. If you can ignore the service, go enjoy the sushi by all means. UPDATE from my original review: We have started going here again for a number of reasons. I appreciated the owner’s comment on my original review, he took responsibility for the sub par service we’ve had in the past. I also took advantage of a groupon special. We got two special rolls and ordered 3 different fish for sushi, but somehow were only served & charged for 2. I can hope to blame that on my boyfriend who is a bit of a quiet talker… but I still kinda wanted that fluke sushi. It would be helpful if the waitress repeated our order back to us to make sure it was correct. Since then we go often for the food which is always really good. My parents aren’t as into japanese food, yet they find something they enjoy since mikado has a very large menu. My boyfriend sometimes likes to get an udon noodle dish. I like the sushi best and haven’t had a roll I didn’t like. I even prefer their spicy tuna roll over any other place I’ve been to. Good seaweed salad as well. Unfortunately there are still some big kinks service wise: 1. recently took a friend who hadn’t been. It was around 10pm and they close at 11, but we planned to eat and run. The waitress was a nightmare. She was curt and bordering on rude. Unfriendly with horrible timing across the board. When my friend ordered the szechuan tofu dish, it was literally a big bowl of cubed tofu with no veggies. She asked to order something else instead. Getting the menu back, we felt like bad children who were being scolded. Then the waitress stood there expecting my friend to immediately tell her what different dish she wanted. My friend asked for a minute, so she left for 10 at least. Like she wanted to spite us? it was very weird. Then as I was looking at the bill which she had put down moments before she ran back and said«You done?» …I was so frustrated with the service by then and didn’t even have my wallet out yet. I’m typically a good tipper(my standard is 20%) but she had pushed me over the edge. I was embarrassed I told my friend it was good. 2. Something that they ALWAYS do is come to your table immediately as you sit and ask if you want something to drink. When you say«water to start», they take the drink menu away. Every. single. time.(and I eat here frequently) How do you know if you want a drink when you just sat down and haven’t had a chance to look at the drink menu yet? We laugh about it as a quirk but really they’re hurting their business by not letting you peruse the drinks and spend more $. 3. Recently I got the sushi dinner with 9 pieces, they only gave me 8 and then were alluding to the fact that I might have counted wrong(If I can’t count to 8, I got bigger problems in life than a missing sushi piece)…they did bring the 9th but of course it was salmon(my least favorite and obviously the cheapest, most common fish for restaurants). It happened another time when we got the sushi for 2 which was suppose to be 20 pieces. We got 18. They fixed it but it’s weird having someone count your dinner. It’s also unfortunate to have to count before eating. The 1st time we had the sushi meal for 2 they also only gave us a choice of a soup or salad for 1 — We each picked and she said«no, just one. for both of you.» so we shared. the 2nd time they gave us a choice with the meal for us each to have soup or salad. TRAINYOURSTAFF! It’s not difficult to have some consistency. 4. Another service issue is they either hover a bit too much or ignore you. On several occasions I’ve had trouble getting a check when the place was empty of patrons around lunch time. My cousin and I watched our waitress actually sit down for lunch in the other part of the restaurant without having given us our check first. We were flabbergasted and annoyed. 2 stars for service, 4 for the food. I go back time and again for the sushi because it’s closest to our house and I can get over the service for my fish craving. It’s sad to have such a long list of bad service issues though…

The food is consistently good; the service really awful. We’ve been 3x; the owner tries very hard; but the staff just doesn’t deliver. Too bad as they have some serious competition from Feng just down the street.

My husband and I ate here about a month ago. I had a lobster roll from the special list that was a wonderful medley of flavors. Sadly I did not see or taste any lobster but instead what looked like imitation crab. It was delicious but just not sure it was advertised correctly. My husband had a teriyaki salmon which was prepared perfectly. The service was not overly friendly but polite and efficient. We’ll worth another visit.

I went to Mikado for dinner today and had a delicious meal. In fact, I was commenting at how fast the service was and how it had some great sushi. I had the Kamikaze roll, which was really good, and my fiancé had the chicken with vegetables which he loved. Just as I was saying how I would love to come back, my experience was ruined. I used a Groupon(which, by the way, is the reason I found the restaurant in the first place), and our waitress was extremely snobby about it. She took the Groupon and gave the receipt back. The amount was very low, but I was going to make up for it in a generous tip on my card. The waitress came over, picked up the check, slammed it down on the table and snickered while saying, «you can’t charge under $ 10 on a card». Without another word or glance, she walked away. Thankfully I had cash(because not everyone carries it), so I got up and walked to the counter to get change. She not only ignored me the entire time I was standing there, when I asked her to give me change, she gave me a dirty look and walked right past me. I waited at the counter for at least 10 minutes. While the food was really good, and I would love to frequent this place more often, I have to say that this place left a bitter taste in my mouth. The purpose of Groupon for restaurants, often, is to get people to their restaurant. Restaurants that are snobby about the use of the Groupon defeat the purpose entirely. We will not be going back.

Food was mediocre Sushi was flavorless. My husband had sashimi and one of the fishes was inedible. And what’s with the plastic bonsai tree on the plate? I hate to think about all the germs on that thing! I definitely will not recommend this restaurant. My husband ate sashimi platter for 1 and I had the out of control roll sushi.

When we sat down for lunch today, I was totally surprised at what I saw. Allow me to digress, Mikado occupies the former site of the very old, very tired Rice Fields Restaurant. Mikado is nothing at all like the moth balls and Aqua Velva feel of what Rice Fields was. Mikado is rather glitzy, cool, and quite spiffy! Their menu is very ambitious — a real fusion-fest of Chinese, Thai and Japanese. There is a tremendous amount of sushi choices in the form of entrees, individual rolls or hand rolls, and Chef’s Special Rolls. There are terriyaki, donburi, tempura, and noodle dishes. There are popular Chinese dishes, combination plates, and a hibachi menu. For lunch today, I ordered something I didn’t remember seeing anywhere else — spicy miso soup. It was quite good, and yes — it was spicy ! I went for a lunch special — an $ 8 order of Asian Style Curry with chicken — a LOT of chicken. A LOT of tender, perfectly cooked delicious chicken. Add a fabulous curry sauce with carrots, pea pods, mushrooms, and onion & pepper strips, and well prepared rice, and you have a great tasting, great value of a lunch. The lunch included the aforementioned soup which I chose over a salad. The dining room décor is very pretty with dark woods, blue mood lighting, and curved metal accents on the wall. I didn’t see the lounge, but I expect it to be as striking as the rest of the building. Bottom line? We were very very impressed by both the quality of the food and the attractiveness of the interior, Quite a solid upgrade from the old Rice Fields.

Someone had mentioned that this place recently renovated(old Rice Fields) and that the it was amazing inside as well as the food. Stopping in while in Canton center and she was not wrong. The place looks awesome inside. Totally redone, and looks very upscale. I was very impressed and felt very clean inside, in comparison to the past. Floor to ceiling tiles and stone, very nice seating, bar looked amazing and a good time as well as a sushi bar. The lighting in the place really hit home. But, this was take out so i will have to try again another time. I tried the General Tao Chicken lunch special($ 8.50). Typical potion size for that price, served with choice of Miso soup or salad. I got the salad and pork fried rice. It was nothing out of the ordinary. All white meat strips lightly breaded which i did like. No filler added to the chicken.- that is a Plus! Rice was mediocre. Sauce was good, but not very spice and i did ask for extra sauce which they did not accommodate on this visit.(suggest ordering with extra sauce because the chicken was a little on the dry side). The salad was fresh mixed greens with some iceberg. Again good portion and thought it was better then the normal all iceberg served at most places. Will i go back, Yes, will i order it again, most likely i will because after eating it, i did not feel like crap, which can happen at a lot of Chinese restaurants after eating the food. And surprisingly it kept me full for a long time. RT44 lacks a good place for Chinese. Just wish is was a little closer to Avon center.

The former rice fields has been transformed. The interior is much more pleasant but besides that, I haven’t noticed much of a change. Except that they no longer give you a warm towel or fortune cookie…*sigh* I can’t complain about the food, though. It’s good! So, go in and enjoy the new décor as you eat the yummy food. The best part about Mikado is that they are always consistent. The service is always fast and the food is always good so you know what to expect before you go there. I am surprised they aren’t busy all the time because it really is a nice place to grab lunch or dinner. I hope they stay in business because it’s my favorite place to get this style food!

A perfect acceptable Asian bistro lunch. Just not very memorable. The soup had lots of seaweed and was standard fare. The sushi was fine — not a standout. And the«Manchurian» beef(Mandarin said the waiter) was just ok too — beef was a bit chewy and sauce was a little much. The fried rice that went with it is hard to remember just a few days later. Service was acceptable — not overwhelming — and the dishes took a bit to get out despite the restaurant not being too crowded. Would I come back again? Perhaps. As I said before, perfect acceptable. Would be fine for takeout or a regular Asian meal. But certainly not the destination it could be.

Went here with my boyfriend last night because Bamboo Grill and Green Papaya were closed and we were already driving down 44 in this direction. My boyfriend and I were skeptical because we usually view the tag line«Asian bistro» as code for«overpriced random Asian foods jumbled together on a menu» which was pretty much what it was, with a seeming focus on Japanese dishes(sushi). We were seated in an awkward area of the restaurant, everyone else was in a booth in the middle section and we were at a table in the back section and were the only ones there. It was kind of off-putting ambience because the only light source in that area is a bright blue light, but whatever. I have to say the owner(?) was really nice and friendly. We got the sushi plate for two and I got a «porno star martini» which was strong but tasted pretty gross. That’s on me for ordering such a dumb drink. The sushi was okay at best but two pieces of fish had actually spoiled and we had to spit it out. The sushi rice was unimpressive and the spicy tuna roll was ehh okay. At 40 $ for the dish we expected better. I’m kind of confused why this place has such good reviews but maybe their Chinese dishes are a lot more tasty? I would hope so. Won’t be returning.

Great menu with a wide variety of items. I like that they have sushi along with plenty of other non sushi dishes. I had a rice bowl with fried chicken, egg, and veggies. Delicious. Also, the quality of food and décor was phenomenal. The prices are fair, too. This place should def give Feng down the road competition. My only suggestion would be to have some happy hour deals on drinks and food.
