Ehhhhh… wasn’t too impressed with what is going on over at Mrs. Bush’s. Kinda felt a bit awkward as soon as we walked in, we were immediately approached by the woman working(which I assumed is the owner). She was pretty straight forward, this is what I have and what do you want. I also felt pretty uneasy by all of the religious quotes/sayings throughout the store. As Melia R. stated, it is very unusual. I get being religious, I understand it’s your store, but it’s pretty weird and uncomfortable. Sorry, just my 2 cents. Took some slices of pie to go, when I went to go in the fridge to grab the piece of cake, the owner exclaimed«NO!» it was pretty weird. Cake was good, but the experience itself was awkward and because of that, I will probably not return for a while. Sorry, Mrs. Bush’s.

We are camping in an RV down the road… saw this place and decided to check it out. They ran out of the Coconut Cream pie but they had a Coconut Chess pie… wow, it is GREAT. The owner was there and extremely friendly. Nice little place. I looked it up and saw lots of bad reviews… man, people are really screwed up… this place is great. I just don’t why people are so negative all the time. This is our first time to camp in this area, but we’d like to come back… and to have another pie from Mrs. Bush.

Waited until Thursday to try a pie! Was hoping for German chocolate but she had coconut cream pie my next favourite! My husband does not like crust so loved this crust since it is thin and crispy! It definitely tasted homemade, and not from box pudding! Loved the cream topping instead of meringue. Only thing is I think $ 12 is a bit high for a small pie! Would like to try the blueberry pound cake but $ 9.50 seems high too! Oh well, guess homemade cost a whole lot more!

This place is great. So far I have had the blueberry pound cake and the brownie. My wife ate the brownie so I can only day she enjoyed it. The blueberry pound cake was incredible. I couldn’t believe how good it was. Today I stopped in to see what they have. Of course they had my krytonite. Key lime pie, it was very good. What to try next?

Disclaimers: my mama bakes(well), so I may be a little spoiled; plus I don’t have a giant sweet tooth. My grandpa and I are always on the lookout for the best slice of coconut cream pie(well, since Richter’s pie lady moved to Corpus somewhere — msg me if you know where she is! I will drive there!), but there wasn’t any available at the time. The other pies on offer didn’t look any better than what my mama makes. In fact, they looked a little thin and sad. The only pie available by the slice wasn’t ticklin’ my fancy. There were some GIANT cookies in the case(peanut butter, chocolate chip, and what might be an original combo of a bunch of stuff like oatmeal and raisins and nuts or chocolate or something)…they looked big, but not particularly moist or inviting. So I opted to try the mexican wedding cookies. They turned out to be ok; nothing particularly special. Tasted like someone made them from scratch, and did a decent job at it. I gave them to my brother. If you love sweets, this stuff is actually homemade, so there’s that. If you consider yourself an expert and you like the top-shelf stuff, skip this. Unless you’re into interesting slices of Americana. For the experience, I’d say pop in and grab a little something cheap. The woman inside, who we assumed was the owner, was a pretty blonde lady, but wasn’t warm or inviting. Thought that was a little odd since we’d warmed up lunching at Granny D’s(whose pie we’d skipped, even with its impressive punk rock meringue), and tumbled in all country’d up with warm«Hi!s» and broad smiles all around. The lack of warmth was even more odd when I started noticing all the God quotes scrawled on cardboard hanging ALLOVERTHEPLACE. I mean, there was a sign when we entered, and I thought, «Oh, good! Nice Christian folks making pies!»…then the chill and all the signs — not painted up cute with ribbons for hanging, but Sharpie’d onto cardboard, jammed into what seemed like every little corner. It didn’t feel Christian; it felt cult-y. As we were leaving, another lady came in and was greeted warmly by name, so maybe we were somehow off-putting to the lady inside. Maybe my tall grandpa looked like the man who killed her father or something. All I know is the baked goods seemed on par with what that one guy’s wife sometimes sends to the office(you don’t know her name cos it’s nice of her but it’s not tasty enough to be memorable)…but the spectacle inside is roadside-attraction worthy if you’re into that. The mexican cookies were only 50 cents a piece. Oh: and a [painted, wooden] sign outside says they have the Best Chicken Salad Ever, so if you’re not gonna pig out at Granny D’s across the street, then check that out and tell us how it is…

Coconut Cream Pie — need I say more? Ok fine, lets just say if I had died immediately following the consumption of that pie, it would have been well worth it. To die for. Little hole-in-the-wall place that you shouldn’t miss.

Smells wonderful when you walk in. Every kind of pie you would want. Giant cookies, pound cake, recommend old fashioned chess pie.
