Manage your expectations coming in. BG’s is undoubtably a bit of a dive, and maybe not the cleanest restaurant, but it oozes so much character. The potato skins are fantastic, and the shredded cheese on top is so butters and smooth. The French Dip was great. I’d be a regular here if I lived in the area.

To start the waiter was very nice and prompt. I ordered the fish and chips, entrée came as fast as you would expect, large portion of fish 3 pieces with a nice helping of fries. The fish was hand battered and deep fried and the patter was not cooked all the way and the fish was some type of cheap frozen stuff. The fries were wonderful and my wife meal which was pulled pork was good. If go back and try something different.

Great food and service! An absolute must if visiting the Cape Girardeau area. The Potato Skins are piled high with fresh shredded cheese and bacon. INCREDIBLE!

Used to love this place when it opened 30 + years ago. Recently moved back and came back for old times sake. Not the same place. Smells of old fryer oil and cigarette smoke. The famous skins are not what they used to be. I used to come here and just eat skins. No one else did skins like they did. They are still hot and fresh and crispy on both sides, but now filled to the brim with ice cold shredded cheese! When we sent it back to have the cheese melted they microwaved it instead of putting it under the broiler. Totally ruined the crispiness of the potato. They liberally use the microwave and not in a good way. My hot corned beef sandwich, made from average at best packaged lunch meat, was slightly less than room temperature on the inside, while the bread was moist and hot on the outside. Definitely warmed in microwave. The BGs chips were good in concept, but the old oil taste ruined it. Waste of money on the meal. Could not even eat it. Will go home now and have last nights left over pizza. They do have free wifi!

This place gets 3 stars only because of a great waitress and management that was apologetic for the epic fail that was my most recent visit here. I grew up on Bg’s, so it is very sad to report what happened last night. I wish I could be reviewing the Bg’s from years past; the food used to have generous portions and come out hot and fresh. This is not the Bg’s of present. I walked in, and the hostess was nice and promptly greeted us. We sat down, and the waitress quickly had our drink orders and our drinks out to us. Seriously, this lady rocked. We placed our order, and we waited… and waited. The waitress did a good job of keeping us abreast of what was happening, but the kitchen was an EPICFAIL. First, they got one of the orders completely wrong at our table; the waitress caught the mistake, but reported the kitchen said it would be an additional 20 minutes for our food. Keep in mind, we had waited for about 45 minutes at that point, so we just dealt with it. When the food did come out, my fries and my croissant sandwich were cold(so was the other person’s dish at the table who ordered the same thing). Also, the portion size was small, especially the sandwich. The waitress graciously put our meals in the microwave, but nuked food is not what I paid for. Also, when the waitress told the kitchen staff the food was cold, the kitchen staff denied that it was(I could hear them at my table). It was annoying that the kitchen staff lied about their mistake. When we asked to speak to the manager, the GM was out of the building, even though it was only 7PM or so on a Friday night, so the bar manager helped us out. She was really nice and gave us 50% the ticket. I really appreciated them making it right. I used to love this place, but it seems like they have been getting a little worse each year I come back. They need to return to the days of old.

Been going here for 30 years and the food has always been good. The Place has needed a remodeling for the last 20 years but could always overlook that. But the last 2 visits have been bad. Took an hour to get my food and the food quality was not as good as it was in the past. The management did cut the price in half because our food was cold and it took an hour to get it. The waitress was very good and helpful.

First off, the«special sauce» is literally just ranch dressing. None of the cheese melts. The only flavor I tasted today was salt. Everything is about the same quality as fast food, but you get to pay twice as much for it while also having to tip. Sounds like the locals love it, but we can’t figure out why.

BG’s was the worst restaurant I have been to. I travel across the country and eat in many places, and it a mystery to me how this place survives. The Shell gas station has better food. And those famous potato skins are basically cold shredded cheese on some dried up old potato shells.

I had the grilled chicken sandwich, it was tough and had no taste. I also had the«chips», they are just round cut thick potatoes deep fried. Husband had the double cheeseburger with bacon, the meat was a frozen patty. He thought it was good, but I think he was just trying to make me feel better because I was so disappointed by all the food. I didn’t even eat my meal, two bites of the chicken, two chips and $ 31.00 or so dollars later and i was just done. We also had the famous potato skins, the skin part was good, but the velveeta cheese was not melted, on purpose, that is how they are served. Our waiter told us after the fact we could have had it melted upon request, that would have been good to know. Won’t be back.

Tasty yes, but I wouldn’t say famous by any means. But there are reasons im sure they’re are consistently busy while they’re open. Friendly wait staff, at least in my experience. I’d go back I’m sure.

I work on the road and get to eat at a lot of different diners and burger joints. Because it was recommended by the hotel clerk, I placed an order for a burger and salad. $ 20 later I bit into a disgusting, dried out, cardboard burger. The Cole Slaw was peppered or spiced beyond tolerability. I don’t recommend you or anyone you know waste your money here. The only upside is that the delivery arrived 15 minutes earlier than I had expected…

I’m from out of town and a friend recommended this place. What disappointment. I ordered a burger and a trip to the salad bar. It’s not hard to have a good fresh salad bar and make a tasty burger… Neither were worth the money. $ 11 for a gas station burger a the salad bar had things frozen and wilted.

Look, BG’s is what it is — an old diner with enormous portions and mediocre food. But do you come here for haute cuisine? No. You come for fried food. And in that respect, it doesn’t disappoint. The fries come with seasoned salt on them, a favorite of mine. Also, 2 for 1 drinks. Awesome. Don’t come to be impressed. Come to eat a ton of fried carbs.
