First, the atmosphere is relaxing and inviting. The service is first-rate. I like the vegetarian egg rolls. However, this is the 2nd time in 6 months that a few pieces of chicken in the yellow curry dish I ordered was underdone. Very disappointing, as this is usually a wonderful dish.

Great food! Decent selection of quality sushi. Cape lacks sushi joints but Bistro fills a bit of the void. Their entrees are phenomenal and the best gyoza/dumplings. Service is excellent, great beers and wine!

Shame on the cook today who burnt the Ginger Chicken lunch special and plated it anyway. The waitress MUST have know because she served us and never came back to our table to ask us how our meal was or if we wanted our drinks refilled — we did. We had to flag her down to get the check. We showed her the burnt chicken and she got $ 3.00 taken of the bill. Not sure if we want to take another chance here… the lunch special was $ 12.00!

First time visit, the restaurant has been open for 14 years. Very clean, charming & well decorate. The food was fantastic. I ordered lettuce wrap, nice portion & tasteful(much better than p. f Chang) sushi was well made, very nice presentation. They don’t have much of selections(raw fish) here like others sushi restaurant but very fresh. Server was attentive, well manners & well spoken. Manager was on the floor the whole time we were there & make sure we were satisfied with food and service. We left happy and look forward to visit again Soon !!

Don’t waste your time and if you do decide to try it you’ll be wasting a LOT of time. My husband and I decided to try it because I love sushi. The sushi was eh at best, it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t anything worth going for a second time. We ordered the sauteed mushrooms as an appetizer and while the sauce had a great flavor we were disappointed because the mushrooms weren’t cooked. We had to saw through them with a knife and even that was a tough job, I never realized mushrooms came so tough. We waited 2 hours for our actual meal and when we got it, the grilled chicken breast and veggies and drunk noodles, his chicken seemed more like a cut of pork loin and none of the veggies on either of our plates were cooked. My drunk noodle dish consisted of 98% raw veggies and next to no noodles. Even the soda my husband got was flat and watered down. It was a terrible experience over all.

We have given them a couple of chances. The first time the food was average and it was very busy do the service was poor. We decided to try a second time. Just like the first time the service was so poor but this time the sushi was chewy and tasted old. The hot food was barely warm and when we mentioned it the answer was yes were busy. I have no intention of going back. UThe

Best sushi around and the service is great! If you are not a sushi person the other meals are wonderful as well!

Had the Tom Kha Gai and Pad Thai Noodles. Both were very good and taste just like I remember from Thailand. The only reason I’m giving three stars is the small portion size and slightly high cost.

Delicious lettuce wraps and drunken noodles. They also had a good selection of beers other than the standard beers you usually see. Server was knowledgeable and had good recommendations.

Full Disclosure: Review is of a visit on 2÷14÷2015, so we caught these folks at probably one of their more slammed nights of the year. We had a reservation and were seated within a few minutes of arrival — Server warned us that sushi orders were ‘a bit backed up’. We should have recognized that this was waiter speak for ‘caveat emptor’, but we were in the mood for sushi and soldered on. Ultimately, it took about an hour for the sushi to emerge. It was excellent, but nothing’s really worth an hour wait… Soup and entrees came out at expected intervals after the sushi — food was excellent all around. Server adjusted the bill(without mentioning this to us – nice subtle touch) by comping dessert and not including a charge for chicken in one of the dishes. Overall, good experience on a challenging night.

WE asked for A VEGGIEDISH w/GREEN CURRY and RICE& got charged $ 19.00 for the seafood dish which is the only one with green curry… that came without seafood! When speaking with the manager, he was defensive and interruptive and was unwilling to go down on price even though there was no meat in our dish. What kind of restaurant do they think they are? Good restaurants think the customers are right, aren’t afraid to somewhat deviate from the menu and give good service. We sat there for 10 min before even being asked what we wanted to drink. A ‘classy’ eatery like this place should serve water as soon as customers are seated.

This used to be one of my favorite places in Cape, but the quality of the food has declined in the last year. I went to lunch with friends last week and I ordered the cashew chicken stir fry. I had never had this particular wok dish and I was disappointed with the food and the service. We got to Saffron at 11:40 on a Thursday and the place was filling up. There were three of us and there were two tables for four sitting empty and set for service. The hostess, who was nice but very slow, told us there would be a wait. Two other groups of two came in right after us and they waited about 5 minutes before the hostess even returned to put them on the list. After nearly twenty minutes I was about to ask if we could have one of the empty tables, when the hostess returned and seated us. I guess the wait was because they didn’t have enough servers. The other people who came in after us waited another good 10 minutes before being seated at the other table for four that had been vacant the entire time. We got an order of Saffron toast to start with and it was very heavy and greasy. We were seated for nearly an hour before we received our entrees and my chicken was overcooked and dry. The pieces of chicken and vegetables at the edge of the plate were pretty cold, like the plate had been partially under a warmer for awhile. It was disappointing.

I live in San Francisco with every type of asian cuisine known to man just a few blocks from my doorstep, but I still look forward to coming to Saffron when I visit my GF’s parents in Cape for the holidays. Simply put I’ve not had a single bad dish here, and more than a few would stand up to some of the very trendy places back in San Francisco where people stand in line for an hour or more to get a seat. Great service as well which is always appreciated. If you live here or are just passing through town, you’re missing out if you don’t give this place a try.

Great sushi and wine. One of the better restaurants for such a small town. Enjoyed everything from service to the preparation and presentation. Definitely a repeat.

If this is a fusion restaurant, want to be, they got close. My order was my same old for a new place. First a spicy tuna roll. The size of the roll was a standard size but the fish was very small and the sushi vinegar was way over powering. Main course. Chicken Pad Thai The plate was mostly bean sprouts with some noodles added. Just opposite of what one would expect. The chicken lacked the thai flavor and the dish completely lack a key ingredient, the red ketchup ish binding sauce. It was close to what California pizza kitchen puts on their pies less the peanut sauce. The server said it was the most popular dish so maybe the chef had surcome to local tastes. I would probably pass next time but see what you think.

The first few times we went the food was excellent. The pad Thai, sushi and panang curry were amazing! However in the past few months the quality of the service and food has gone down considerably. We now expect the wait staff to ignore us and the food to be cold or bland in flavor. Needless to say, our favorite place in Cape no longer gets our service. Giving it 2 stars because it used to be great and hoping it turns around soon.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Cape Girardeau. I have been a regular here for years. In that time, the quality of food and service has generally remained consistent. I remember only a couple occasions where I had a problem with the service. In each case, the server was new, the problem wasn’t serious and was quickly corrected. In general, the servers are very polite and efficient. The restaurant itself is quiet and clean with soft music in the background. Likewise, I have few complaints about the food. The only real problem is that the chicken breast is often a little dry from slight over cooking. I have tried several of their dishes. Some of my favorites are Saffron toast, pad Thai, pineapple fried rice, teriyaki steak, dumpling soup, cashew chicken, and grilled chicken salad. I’m not a sushi fan, but those who are can appreciate the wide range of reasonably priced choices. Though they don’t have a separate party room, they do have an area divided from the regular dining area with a very long table for large groups. It is family friendly, but young children are not a common sight there. Most patrons are adults. This is one of the reasons it’s so quiet. Saffron is a huge favorite of mine. It has long been my first choice for business lunches or just some quiet get away time. In my opinion, it’s easily one of the top local restaurants.

3.5 stars. Saffron is a safe bet for those searching for a restaurant with a substantial selection of tasty Asian dishes(Thai, Japanese, Chinese) and nicer, modern Asian bistro ambiance. We go here almost every other Thursday to have a glass of Malbec and wind down after work. We usually try something different at every visit. We liked the Saffron toast(ground chicken on French bread), Burmese noodles with chicken or beef, yaki udon noodles with chicken. The tom ka and tom yum soups, red curry, pad thai, and sushi were all very average. If you are a sushi lover, I wouldn’t recommend Saffron. The rolls are plain and novice – the rice falls out of the maki rolls and the seafood does not taste as ‘fresh’. Believe me, we’ve given Saffron more than a couple of chances to impress us with their sushi selection. The sushi over at Shogun’s is more authentic, innovative, and better tasting. Our second visit at Saffron, our friend’s order came with a long piece of rope string(the kind you find wrapped around dry Asian pre-packaged noodles) on top of the meal. We told the server and she profusely apologized and brought our friend another plate of the same dish. BUT, sitting dead center of the dish was ANOTHER piece of string! The server was embarrassed, but very nice and professional during the whole ordeal and apologized on behalf of the chef. Our friend ended up ordering a completely different dish and surprise, it came out without a string ;)! The restaurant ended up not charging our friend for the dish =). Now that is what we call great service =)!
