Went to sing karaōke. The guy running it couldn’t figure out how to make it work. We were told it would start at 9:30. We waited till 10:30 and had to ask the guy if it was going to work. He finally said no. What a disappointment. Now I smell like a pack of cigarettes and no karaōke. The bartender was great and the drink prices were great also.

This place kind of stunk. The bar lines were long, the drinks were weak, and they couldn’t even get the karaōke to work(despite the karaōke DJ chugging beers, which I am sure helped in figuring things out). Even if the dude would have figured out the karaōke system(seriously, you had 1 job…), they can’t even alter octaves. The place was super smoky, and the sound system left much to be desired. Silver lining– their prices weren’t bad and the bartenders were nice. 2 stars for that. Quite a bummer, I was hoping for some karaōke, and it would have been nice to have been told it was cancelled instead of having to ask.

Wow. It takes a lot for me to give out 2 stars. Here’s why. First, we get there at 830 pm after scouring all of Cape(calling numbers that are disconnected, not finding websites for businesses; what is this, 1995?) trying to find SOME place that has Karaōke on a Friday night. A. Friday. Night. Should I repeat it one more time so you get the point? Well anyway, once we arrived, we were told that karaōke would start between 930 to 10 pm, which seemed a little late to me. Second, keeping in mind the only reason we can into this place was FOR the karaōke, this place was REALLY, REALLY smokey. Seriously, I feel like(and sound like) I have been smoking 2 packs a day for 10 years after spending less than 2 hours in this place. Third, 10 pm rolls around and after the karaōke guy has had at least 2 beers that I saw, informs us that it could be awhile before karaōke starts because they are having some difficulties. Fourth, at about 1030 pm, we start talking to the table behind us about if this is normal for karaōke here. They tell us that karaōke is basically cancelled because they can’t figure out how to re-connect the sound cables. Seriously, WTH. What was he doing from 830−10pm? Geez. Time to peace out. Saving grace(and the reason this place didn’t get 1 star): The Prices! WOW. They were rock bottom, and the drinks were strong. Bottom line: if you enjoy lots of smoke and not a lot of karaōke, come here!

Cheap drinks. Karaōke. DJ. Dance floor. What’s not to love?! What a relaxing, fun bar in Cape. Whiskey River is one of those places you stop by «just for one drink» and end up staying the whole night. At least, that’s what happened to me. We danced the night away over mixed drinks, and then switched to karaōke sometime around 9pm. You can go from the best dancer in the world to singing Dolly Parton in a matter of minutes… it’s amazing. Key points: It’s smoky, but worth it. Be ready to mix with the regulars. Five rum and diets is three too many, and you’re not in college anymore. Okay, that last line was just for me. Whiskey River is worth a visit!

Whiskey River has apparently just opened recently, the liquor license is new and there isn’t a permanent sign in place yet. It’s a huge facility, with the entrance being a converted garage door. From the layout I’d guess this was formerly a car dealership or body shop, perhaps? There’s two rooms. The larger main room where the L-shaped bar is located is decorated in black and has a big screen TV, pool tables, Golden Tee, and several video poker type machines. Then, facing the street, is a much brighter side room(brighter due to the large windows) with several tables and another pool table. The dozen or so customers were all over in the main room. Karaōke seems to be the big thing here, there’s a weekly karaōke contest on Friday nights. It’s new and I’ve only had one visit, but I’m giving this place benefit of doubt and giving it 4 stars. I had a good time there.
