I originally went to Ian’s because the studio was located on the corner of 15th& C Sts SE – I lived a couple of doors down. My hair is a mix of cow licks, curls, waves, and other textures due to my biracial ancestry. Many people try to cut it as if all of my hair has the same texture all over. It does not. Ian knew how to cut my hair beautifully! He clearly loves what he does and is a master at it. I’ve had one other hair stylist who could handle my hair – another brother – when I lived in San Francisco. I am returning to the DMV this summer and might just make an appointment.

The absolute best hair cut I’ve ever had! The vibe in the shop is so friendly — it’s a snob-free zone. Ian Thorne is the owner and a master barber. You hear his booming laugh as soon as you walk in and he always puts out this positive energy. What I love is that his is one of the few shops that does every type of hair and that makes everyone feel welcome. I once scheduled a 10am appointment and, when I had a last-minute scheduling conflict, Ian offered to open up his shop earlier to accomodate me. Wow!

Ian’s is a great all around beauty salon. Ian is a wonderful stylist full of positive energy. Oh and you leave feeling like a million bucks. He has a small team of other stylists who assist as well as style their own clients, Giselle and Lisa, who works weekends. Both are really outstanding stylists especially if you prefer a lighter feeling style. The styles I’ve seen them create are always very soft and feminine. I really like going here. They are West Indian so there’s always some smooth reggae playing. Sometimes other customers come through with snacks. It’s a really friendly place, everyone says hello and are introduced to each other. My only gripe is that I wish a price list could be posted. It usually ranges $ 60 for a set and wrap to $ 90 for a relaxer. I think it’s kinda steep but don’t mind too much b/c my hair always looks so great. I recommend making an appointment.
