PurePower Yoga

I have tried the yoga «experience» several times in my life and have not enjoyed myself nor felt it was of any physical benefit for my health and well being. I went into PurePower Yoga for a business agenda, yet once inside, seeing the friendly staff, the happy women and the atmosphere within decided to try hot yoga. Jeannine’s generous student special for 30 days I could not pass up. It has forever changed my life! What she has created is an amazing service that not only physically but also mentally enhances my life. The instructors she has employed are not only masters at teaching yoga but also have the ability to create a mindset needed in life today! Thank you!

Love this place so much! Such a pleasure and blessing It feels to be part of the PPY family. I literally get the best workout and feel so great when I leave a class. The teachers there are the nicest people ever and you would most definitely love them! I highly recommend this place!

Great studio in almost every way … good teachers, friendly, nice space. But way, way, way too hot for power yoga. I have done a lot of power yoga under normal conditions and a lot of bikram, no problem. But power yoga is much too athletic for this heat. Maybe it’s ok if you are ultra fit and weigh 100 pounds, so you do not personally generate too much heat. In the class I went to, though, more than ¾ of the class had to get up and leave at some point to cool off, and by the second half only around half of the class was participating at any given moment. Worst of all, 5+ people left before the class was over. You’d think they might take a hint from their customers …

I absolutely love Pure Power, but the reason for the 4 stars, is that they went and got rid of the sweat towels and the cold towels (I know that was a while ago, but shoot, we are paying enough to warrant a couple free towels…). The second reason is that I feel it is EXTREMELY necessary to put a cap on the number of people allowed into a class. If you already have a cap, I suggest you lower it. Not all classes are packed elbow to elbow, but the ones that are, it’s miserable and distracting to take a class while having to worry about hitting your neighbor.

Great clean studio! Took a Yoga class… was challenging, but worth it! I felt great after. & I love how they give you cold towels for after class. :-)

This studio is amazing. It is clean and the staff is friendly. I just purchased a 10 pack of classes after completing the unlimited 30 day new student special. It took me 3 tries to make it through an entire class. When I finally made it through, from beginning to end, Brooke at the front desk said, «You made it!». I was so happy that someone other than me noticed. It is safe to say I am addicted to hot yoga. I love the heat, thank you for the practice.

The best yoga and pilates studio EVER! Pure Power Yoga is a community that takes you in and treats you like family. The instructors are not just instructors — they are educators who want to guide you in the right direction to help you achieve your goal. 100% selfless and mindful of making sure that the students are okay in and out of class. Yoga and Pilates are both hot and if you find it to be too much, you are free to leave the room, the teachers just ask you respect the others who are still in the room. They adjust your form, remind you what brought you to class to keep you going and make you want to keep coming back. PPY is the one place in Santa Cruz that makes me feel like I belong. Jeanette, Maddy, Arthur, Lisa (pilates), Lisa (pilates), Greg, Mardi, Lydia, Jen (Yoga), Jen (Yoga) and everyone else I’m forgetting– Denise at the front desk. Thank you for being so fabulous to say the least! The price is right and there are a plethora of classes! If you haven’t tried PPY — what are you waiting for???

I have never attended yoga before, and it was in pure power hot yoga ! It is not easy. But all the staff give you one on one attention (like a personal training session) and I have never felt better in my life!
I expected it to be hot, since it says «hot» yoga, but it’s way doable .
The studio is clean, organized and the staff always smiling and helpful.
1 year now and I have never been so strong in years, I am thankful for this place –perfect timing for what I needed after gym blahs ! The prices with all the attention, is way cheaper than others I have checked out and with the personal touch they give you as a plus. Try it more than once and believe me, you will notice how you feel.

Love this studio. Jeanette has created an amazing community at PurePower Yoga that extends beyond your time on the mat. The teachers are amazing and bring their own unique flare to each class, while encouraging you to work within the guidelines of your own practice. They also go out of their way to make sure you are having fun and enjoying your time in the hot room while getting exactly what you need on that day. Who knew yoga could be so much fun?

I used to come here all the time back when I lived here. I moved closer to the city and haven’t been able to find anything remotely close to it! The atmosphere was great, people were always a pleasure to see, teachers were awesome and best of all it’s a heated practice. Many other «heated practices» I have been to, aren’t necessary heated to the point of sweating, but heated to the point of stickiness.
I miss PPY! Will have to return soon :)

Love the heated room… Great atmosphere, I love that u can leave early during class or show up a little late to class and it’s ok. This is hot yoga so remember if it’s ur first time here ur goal is to just stay in the room for as long as u can. FYI it is warmer than bikrim, which is why most classes are just 1 hr, and some are 1 hr and 15mins.

Started doing a 30 day challenge going to pilates which I have a lot of experience in.
The classes were much, much to hot and movements fast and it really was more like aerobics than any pilates I’ve ever known. Ended up hurting my neck in class and never returned. I work with several other people that have also quit due to injuries or strains while in class. Don’t feel inspired to return with the feeling that you like the class when it’s «over» I want pilates /​yoga I enjoy while I’m doing it.
On the plus side, facility is attractive and love the cold wash cloths.

As much as I enjoyed the studio, I have to agree with the reviews from Hannah and Chandra that its just TOO HOT for power yoga. I’ve been doing power yoga for years as well and absolutely love it. I was relieved to see their reviews because I thought I was just being a wimp! I had to step out of the yoga room, I just couldn’t handle the heat. I’ve been going to Yoga Source in Los Gatos for quite some time and I think their heat level is perfect (I do love heated yoga!), but now I’m living in Santa Cruz and really need a studio close by. I rarely write reviews, but I’m hoping there may be enough consensus on the heat level to result in a change for a safer yoga room. I’m not the expert of course! I would love to make this my new home studio, but I just can’t go back with the heat at that level :-(

Beautiful studio, clean bathrooms, very friendly staff! I have been practicing power yoga for seven years an I’ve never taken a class so HOT. The teacher have great cues and the class was otherwise balanced, but about ten people sat on their mats 50 minutes into the 75-​minute class. 100+ degrees is not OK in a power yoga class. DANGEROUSLY hot!

My review is just on the the Yoga classes. I was really surprised by the some of the reviews. I thought they would all be 5 stars and 4 stars. I was really impressed by the beauty and cleanliness of the studio. I loved all the teachers that I have had so far, Jessica, Tim, Greg (or is Craig I don’t know). I love the hardwood floors and that they clean them between classes. I love how the heat opens my muscles and joints up and I feel that it helps protect my body by warming it up very quickly. I love how the the teachers give you modifications if a pose is too difficult and how they let you know that this is your practice and that you don’t have to force anything you just need to listen to what your body is telling you. I have recommended this place to at least 15 people who have gone and they all love it and continue to go there so… If you want a great work out, a great stretch and clear your mind of all your stress you should go.

Discovered the Power Yoga studio this week while visiting Santa Cruz for the holidays. I have taken many power yoga classes throughout the years, but WOW, the Power Yoga class I took today with Jeanette blew the rest of them out of the water! I was a sweaty mess [in a good way!] by the time the class ended today. They heat the studio to 95 – 100 degrees which really adds intensity to the overall workout. Jeanette was very friendly, and was great at walking through the details of each and every pose. She definitely pushed the POWER side of the class, making each pose very challenging, but also offering modifications along the way! Great experience overall! I will most likely be VERY sore tomorrow! If you want to go to a yoga class, but get a fantastic workout as well– I highly recommend Power Yoga! I will be back – tomorrow in fact!

Too hot for me! I do yoga at Divinitree and am fairly used to warm yoga, but this is an entirely different animal. I did a 90-​day challenge at Bikram once and decided I would never again darken the doorway of a studio whose classes were 100+ degrees. This yoga was HOT. I took the class of one of my beloved teachers and am used to his level of intensity, but it was just too much for me. This studio has, however, some of my favorite instructors, is a beautiful space and is very conveniently located. It seems the perfect landing spot for those yogis that love the heat.

I tried the New Student Special, $ 40 for 30 days unlimited, and I’m glad I did. So far I have had three different instructors and they have all been good, although I have to say that Pat Tao is my favorite– he’s awesome! I am new to hot yoga, and although I regularly practice yoga, I would recommend beginning with the Power Yoga Basics classes. The pace is a bit slower and you get a chance to explore each pose (and get used to the heat). The regular Power Yoga classes are quite vigorous– I can’t imagine doing the Power + class yet! Maybe in time. The facilities are clean and tastefully decorated. My only suggestion would be to do a quick wipe down or Swiffer of the studio floor between classes– people are (obviously) sweating a LOT and the floor gets pretty yucky. Other than that, I would definitely recommend checking this studio out!
