The food is good, but do not even bother unless you have over an hour to wait for your food. Takeout orders from this place take just as long — even if you place the order an hour ahead, you’ll still end up waiting when you arrive. Better off at any of the other sushi places in SC area. Better fare, better service.

We love Sushi Garden. Come early, because it gets packed! We take visitors from out of town here for a great meal. The service is almost always very good. Try the Eternal Sunshine roll or Dr. Woo’s Wonder! DEEEEEE-LICIOUS!

Fantastic, fresh nigiri and interesting rolls. First time here with my husband on a Saturday night. Immediately greeted by a hostess and seated. Had option to sit at a table, sushi bar or actual bar. The place was about 75% full for Saturday night at 8pm, but no line out the door. Perfect! Ambiance was lovely, but not overly loud. Definitely easy to have a conversation. After looking through the giant menu for 10 minutes. We ordered a chef special with 6 types of nigiri and California rolls, a mixed tempura and a large Crab Carnival. It was huge! Good thing another couple got their 3 giant rolls before we accidentally ordered 2! Got out with $ 45 +tip with no drinks. Cheapest, best Sushi in Santa Cruz area! Impeccable, prompt, friendly service matched the excellent fish. I have never seen so many white people working in a Japanese restaurant, but the chef’s were Japanese. There is also a cute zen garden outside.

Shauna is the BEST!!! The most genuine, welcoming, sweetest, loving person ever. Her hospitality is the reason why we keep coming back. The food is always awesome and always on point. We love the sushi chefs and all the variety they provide.

Sushi lovers out there, rejoice, apparently there is hope for us in Santa Cruz. Sushi Garden has fresh fish, great service and a huge selection of sake, beer and cocktails. Their menu is huge so I thought that was a red flag but it was actually not. Probably they offer lots of options because they simply know what they are doing. We tried several rolls and nigiris and everything was super fresh and tasty. Kudos to the combination of flavors on the Pinto Lake roll, the salmon, basil, nuts, lemon, avocado and maguro mix is crazy good. The place itself is a bit hidden, but once you find it you will keep going back. Well, at least I will.

Probably one of the largest sushi menus in the area or anywhere for that matter. It’s cozy enough for a date night or showing up for lunch. Really great rolls here and fresh.

We just celebrated my husband’s birthday here and were impressed for several reasons. The food was excellent from our agadashi tofu appetizer, miso soup and three oversized rolls. My aunt and uncle went for sashimi and commented positively many times about the freshness and taste. The service was impeccable. We also brought a cake with us and they didn’t charge a cake cutting fee but still provided cake plates! The place is lively and fun.

We came here on a Friday night and waited about 30 minutes for a party of two. The service was a bit slow. It seemed like they were short on staff. We waited about 15 minutes for someone to take our order. We ordered the salmon, spicy scallop, and albacore(nigiri). Also, we had the eternal sunshine roll and the hamachi kama. The sushi was all fresh and amazing! They all seemed to melt in your mouth. The roll on the other hand was just okay. I wouldn’t order it again! The hamachi was the highlight! It comes with a sweet and sour sauce. It paired well with our Kirin beers! I would definitely come again for the sushi if I’m in this area!

Seriously overpriced for really poor quality food. The sauces are really bad(one tasted like stomach bile) and powdery. Agedashi is not to be served with cabbage or on such a tiny plate where you cannot pour the sauce. there is never an excuse for such badly wrapped $ 15 rolls that fall apart he minute they set it down, much less served with week old tuna that is barely seasoned to disguise the rotting fish flavor. Green iced tea was also powdery. $ 13 for three tiny garden salads?

There is a reason I come here every Saturday afternoon to have the freshest sashimi in town, hot green tea, and mind-blowing hamachi kama! I look forward to every Saturday having the best sushi and having the greatest hosts/chefs around! :) They are always updating their specials menu and the chef’s can accommodate any special request. Plus they make the sushi look like a work of art that I almost feel guilty to eat their artwork :) Wonderfully fresh sushi and super fast friendly service! Sushi time!

I love this place! The service is great, the fish is super fresh and everything came out amazing! I would’ve given 5 stars had they used real linens and given a warm towel in the beginning. For the prices, it should have those luxuries. All in all, the fish is fresh, the sushi chefs and wait staff were very friendly and the place was clean! Good job!

Suspicious of a Japanese restaurant in a business park? You probably should be… First, the positive. .. I was quite pleased with the service, the waitress checked on us many times and was very attentive. This is the reason for the second star. The food was fair at best. The sashimi temperature was warmer than it should have been and the texture was not as fresh as I would have liked. The udon broth was bizarre and included broccoli. .. Broccoli! Maybe the Japanese food options on this side of the hill are fusion? This is a tremendous skip for me and we won’t be back

I want to thank management for taking the reviews seriously! I decided to try Sushi Garden out again. I came for lunch and it was amazing, the server was super nice and all the chefs greeted us when we came in. My server was a white blonde woman maybe 40’s and was so awesome! She kept filling our tea and sodas and let us know that there is a free edamame appetizer! The rolls were very fresh as well. (Sorry for being so harsh in my first review my apologies, I was just very upset about the previous visit.)

Came in on a Tuesday night when it was pretty slow, waitresses didn’t look like they were doing much, and they had many empty tables. A waitress greeted us and asked us how many, sushi bar or table, etc. After we told her, we still had to write our names down on the sheet, answering the same questions. Then we waited for a few more minutes before they seated us. Once we were seated, our waitress came and asked us if we wanted to order drinks, we just asked for water. 10 minutes later, another waitress came and asked if we wanted drinks(our waters never came) and again, we said water(it came this time). We ordered: 1. Soba — my friend ordered this and he said it was really good. He’s Japanese and has been to Japan numerous times. It also came with tempura, which was really crunchy, not too soggy. 2. A few pieces of nigiri — these are really small, and much to my distaste, the salmon nigiri was warm. 3. Hamachi Kama — this was one of my favorites. It was served on a hot plate over some veggies, and the portion was definitely worth it. 4. The special hamachi sashimi with jalapeños, masago, and ponzu sauce. I don’t remember the name of this dish, it was on the special menu and it was one of my other favorites. There was nothing extremely special about this as many sushi restaurants serve it, but definitely one of the better things I had here. Overall, the customer service is lacking and this won’t be the first place I would go to when I think of a sushi restaurant around this area, but I wouldn’t mind coming back for the hamachi kama.

Service is so abysmal that lunch(of 3 rolls split between 2 people) took 2 hours. Rolls are beyond expensive for Takara/Mall Food Court quality. Our rice today was not cooked properly nor seasoned, leading to very bland mushy gummy rolls. We should have left when the waitress didn’t take our order despite many waves for 30 minutes. Really wish I could have left when, despite clean plates, we were left waiting for 20 minutes without a check.

We usually go to Sushi Garden once every few months. And every time it’s the same: the food is pretty darn yummy but the service is bad. What prompted this review is our last visit that really blew me away. Again, the food was pretty good. But holy bananas! I’ve never had service this bad before. Server was completely over-whelmed with too many tables; she really was not that nice and(when we asked for spoons for our children’s miso soup, she reached over my shoulder and dropped a spoon into my bowl of soup); the rest of the staff had no idea what they were doing; no refills of water or even anyone ever asking if we wanted anything else to drink while we sat there waiting for our food for over 30 minutes with empty glasses. It was the last straw and we’ll be going to Miyako from now on.

Really enjoyed the sushi here. Very fresh and great sized portions for the price you pay. There sake is well prices as well. We had the 1.7 liter bottles for an amazing deal so we ordered 3 of them. The bar is open for full service as well you, don’t have to wait for a table if there packed and there’s seats open. The bartenders seemed nice and friendly the servers as well as the owners were friendly as well. I think they could have done a bit better on there customer base of who they let into there bar as well as the noise level, they really didn’t seem to control there guest when they were getting out of hand and started swearing in a restaurant. All in all if they can fix that problem I would definitely go back for the food. As well as the drinks.
