Ehu & Kai Adventures

Very friendly, helpful and nice people. They were expecting us and pretty much ready for trying to get 23 people in their kayaks at one time. They were also ready to get us out of the water when we returned from our trip.

We stumbled across this kayak company while walking through our neighborhood. These guys were so helpful and great with our group of 6. We ended up renting snorkeling gear for 2 days and kayaks for one day. We made a reservation and went at 730 am to get our kayaks… best decision ever! The guys gave us tips on the best places to snorkel by captain cooks and where to see dolphins. We beat all of the crowds to the snorkeling area and it was amazing! We left right as all the boats with tours showed up. As we leisurely made our way back we came across a pod of at least 100 dolphins. Did we have dolphins swim next to our kayaks, yes. Did they jump all around us and give us a great show, yes. Were we in the water swimming while they were all around us, yes! Thank you for one of the coolest experiences of our lives!

Thankfully, we were recommended to Ehu & Kai for our kayak rentals. The guys were extremely helpful and even traded us two, two person kayaks for the triple we asked for, when it turned out to be too much for inexperienced kayaker’s to handle. There was also no extra charge for the trade. Their location right on the water also made this switch possible. If we get the opportunity to get back to the Big Island, we will definitely use Ehu & Kai again.

Really helpful guys that run this place. We were a little turned around finding the actual kayak launch site, and just as we were getting frustrated, we got a call from one of the guys asking if we needed help finding the actual location, which we had finally figured out.
One tip, make sure you are putting in the address to the launch that you find on their website, not the office, they’re about 20 minutes apart.
Overall we had an amazing snorkeling experience. Saw tons of fish, eels, even a reef shark. Would highly highly recommend doing this if you’re ever on the Big Island.

Helpful, accommodating, and resourceful describes this business’ employees and owners. Booked 2 singles for a 9AM departure, but an unusually large demand for singles left them without any when we arrived. However, within minutes 2 more singles arrived and we were off to explore the cove/​inlet at the Cook Monument. Had a great time, and all due to this excellent, native-​Hawaiian, family-​run business. Wonderful people to work with, both pleasant and professional. Can’t do any better than these guys. They put your boat into the water, help you get in it, and help you get out when you return. Only downside is parking is a bit removed. However, the trade-​off is well worth it!

We were lucky to find Peter who runs Ehu & Kai adventures. Peter and his crew gave us excellent service. The transaction was easy and we were a family of 4 Kayaking for the first time. We really enjoyed talking with Peter about the history of hawaii and the area we were in. Captain cook is the most beautiful place to snorkel. It is truly a spiritual experience and I hope that everyone who does the tour understands how sacred the area is. I am grateful it was explained to us. We will come again and again. Thank you Peter and family!!!

Very friendly group of guys and a beautiful bay to cast off from and paddle to Captain Cook Monument. We saw and moray eels, turtles and spinner dolphins in the bay.

What a great find! We reserved ahead and paid online, got great directions to the launch site, and Rufus hooked us up with a dry bag plus great recommendations. They even gave me tips for easily getting in and out of the kayak 7 months preggers with my baby bump :).
No strapping the boats to the truck and bumping down the road, you launch right from the family owned site. We saw countless tropical fish, sea turtles and even DOLPHINS on our kayaking trip. Unbelievable experience and the crew could not have been more accommodating.
We give them out highest recommendation and are trying to figure out when we can get back here!

I called the am that I wanted to rent to confirm availability. I was told to pay online and the «guys» would be notified. Lawrence was expecting us and greeted us with a warm aloha. He carried our stuff to the shore while we parked the car. When we returned he had all our stuff (gear and cooler) strapped to the kayak and ready for us to board. We were provided a waterproof bag for our towels and car key. In the bag was the required permit. Life jackets were on the boat. We were given the choice to wear them or just strap the to our seats. Lawrence guided us into the water and told us where to go. We saw lots of fish and dozens of dolphins on our journey to the captain cook monument.
This whole process was so easy. No strapping a kayak to the roof of our car. We just showed up and got it. Worked very well for our needs. If you wish to transport the kayak to another area, then rent elsewhere. If you just want to kayak around captain cook, no other rental outfit could be easier.

Great company and great experience. Everyone was super helpful and friendly and we had an amazing kayaking experience. About $ 70 for a double kayak and they threw in 2 snorkeling masks as well. Would definitely recommend.

Had such a good time kayaking in the bay with the fam! 5 stars all the way with this company. Ehu & Kai is a local, family run business who treated us with so much aloha and gave us dry bags and put us right into the water right from the rental location! Uncle Lawrence and Manano were so friendly and welcoming!
Another amazing thing about renting through these guys is we Didn’t need to hassle with strapping the kayaks onto the roof and transporting everything and then bringing them back to the shop when you’re done. Just get out the water and go on your way! Highly recommend anyone looking to enjoy Kealakekua bay!!!

Super great time snorkeling and kayaking today! Dolphins were not out but the fish and ocean were beautiful and a surprise turtle was hanging out by the beach. Got to hand feed him the leaves he was already eating in the water! What an experience! Thank you guys for all the good times!

Very friendly people, great tour. If you want to see the Dolphins get there by 7 in the morning or later around 4. Water was extremely clear and warm.

These guys are awesome. We walked up without a reservation hoping to grab a couple of paddleboards, and they went out of their way to give us their own personal boards! They were really welcoming and friendly, and it was the perfect afternoon adventure.
It took us an hour to head across the bay to the Captain Cook Monument and back, but we could easily have spent a few hours snorkeling by the monument and touring the bay. We got back to the launch a little bit later than we had told them, but Rufus and Manu were completely fine with it and welcomed us back in style. We highly recommend this outfit!

Had a great time using the kayaks from Ehu and Kai kayaks. They are very family oriented and provided helpful instructions. Service here is very friendly and helpful.

My mom wanted a sea kayak ride to Captain Cooks monument and these guys were there and ready to help us get out on to the bay and viewing spinner Dolphins (we saw babies learning how to spin with mom).
Very professional, friendly, and informative.

— Helpful in terms of getting you out on the water, telling you exactly where to go, and the depths of the water – just ask!
— Good distance from Captain Cook’s monument for kayaking – good if you’re somewhat in shape… or if not you can just take your time. Haha.

— Will hang on to your kayak while you drive down the street to the restroom – thanks!

Cons:
— Somewhat difficult to locate due to lack of signs since its residential (had to loop around the neighborhood to find it and then get back to where we SHOULD have parked)
— If you need to use the restroom, you need to drive all the way to the park (you can ask them how to get there) …the one lane road makes this no easy feat. Have patience.

We had a great kayak and snorkel tour in Kealakekua Bay (also known as Captain Cook) with Uncle Peter and Manao from Ehu & Kai! They were very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable and have a passion for sharing the culture and history of their native Hawaii. The snorkeling was incredible and we saw and swam with tons of dolphins! Would definitely recommend an outing with Ehu & Kai to anyone who wants an unforgettable Hawaiian adventure.
The tour included a history of the bay and Captain Cook, kayaking out to the dolphins (which took about 30 minutes), a healthy dose of snorkeling in the reefs, and even some post-​snorkel snacks. The entire experience lasted about 3.5 hours, but could’ve gone longer if we wanted to snorkel more.
