Ate here for dinner after a long hike with my wife. The food had ups and downs(dont order the steak tartare), but there were several very good items. The salad with candied pecans and arugula was excellent. The tartar was horrible. The free bread was quite tasty. The seafood angel hair pasta off the main menu was 3 – 4 star-ish. Good, but not great. The shrimp skewer pasta was absolute stunner. The service was ups and downs as well. You could sit there forever waiting for the check. OTOH people were always pleasing and friendly(a big step up over Aspen restaurants). Over all, I wasn’t erect, but I wasn’t flacid either. I’d definitely eat there again.

Dont respect reservations. My husband and I were going to see a play in town and made a 6 o clock reservation. When we punctual arrived, all the tables had just been seated. The owner said that we could sit at the bar, if he could convince another couple to move. We declined and went elsewhere. Thanks for raining on my evening Allegria. I won’t be back.

The atmosphere is beautiful and charming, the waitstaff and Chef/owner Andreas are welcoming and friendly, and the food is delicious. From the homemade bread to the hearty pastas and seasonal ingredients, this is a must for any diner visiting Carbondale.

This place is very yummy. You have to try the lasagna!!! Some of the best I have ever had. The food is tasty, the service is very welcoming and overall a good small mountain town Italian restaurant!

Food at allegria was 4 stars. I loved their take on chicken scaloppine served over fresh spinach linguine. The rest of my family enjoyed their entrees as well. The restaurant was very cute inside. A couple gripes: the servers were rude. They treated us like second class citizens because we didn’t have reservations. We waited until all the people with reservations to eat and leave, with no complaints. Last I checked you can still wait for a table at a restaurant. My parents do not drink. At all. My dad ordered an ice tea. It was a strange tasting fruit tea, I didn’t like it, but he’s not picky. It was not refilled or even offered to be refilled the whole time we ate. Last we asked about the desserts and when we didn’t order one the server had a bit of an attitude. Would I go out of my way to come back here? No. This place was recently featured in 5280 restaurant as the place to dine in Carbondale. Maybe if you’ve come from aspen and are wearing head to toe designer everything. You will probably get better service at allegria.

Open the front door and use your own nose to judge and you will be happy. Try a soup and you will be happy. Keep a close eye on the specials. Extraordinary. Wine list has a fabulous Nebbiolo, reasonable price from the Langhe, the area of the wine of Kings and the King of wines. Lovely music, lovely ambiance, lighting, atmosphere, menu simple and everything wonderful and seriously unexpected in this tiny town called Carbondale. Ice cold prosecco, fire engine hot fresh bread rolls, dreamy, with a special olive oil to dip. The Pork Belly special was amazing beyond imagination and to top all of this off, Everything was so reasonable. Chef owner came to welcome me as I entered. Professional, perfection, pleasant, thanks Chef for an extraordinary meal, service, and your staff are as lovely as your food is, many thanks, Breffni

Spent a lot of money and were sorely disappointed. Where to start? Lobster bisque was way too salty — no lobster in there, just SHRIMP cut up! Mentioned salty soup to an employee who said they would«advise the kitchen.» My special was hangar steak. Ordered medium rare to rare but what arrived on the dish was RAW. TOUGH. Odd tasting. Teensy tiny sweet potato chunks so small that they had no taste and were overcooked. This was a $ 22 entrée that was just so bad. The free rolls — first round — were perfect. Second round were under baked and doughy. Ugh.

I wanted to give it 2 stars but I couldn’t because the food is so good. The service, unfortunately, is horrendous, and has been all six times I’ve gone. The owner is very nice, there is usually one member of the staff that is friendly and helpful, and our waiter is always awful. We’ve been ignored there, forgotten about, etc. Tonight, our waiter was blunt and unfriendly to the point of rudeness, although another waiter who was serving as host was great. A member of our party asked about a specific drink and our rude waiter said«I don’t know anything about the bar» and left it hanging there. There was an awkward pause, we all looked at each other, and she said, «OOOkay, I guess I’ll just have water then.» $$ directly out of the owners pocket. Anyway, at the end of dinner we got their lasagna special to go for a friend and when we got home we found the garlic bread had not been included, which of course was part of what our friend was looking forward to, and also of course part of what we paid for. I will continue recommending the Italian Underground to visitors from out of town, or as a previous reviewer did, I will tell them to keep it strictly carry-out. This last visit was bad enough(but WOW the food is good) that I won’t go back for quite awhile. Bummer, ’cause I definitely feel like it’s a lose-lose.

The food here was spot on, great variety and really well prepared. The service was ok and the wine list could definitely use a little improvement, but I couldn’t fault them a star for that because the quality and ambiance was top notch.

Hands down best meal I ever had. Being Italian I am overly critical when eating out Italian, but everything here was perfect and fresh. Service was great and chef came out to thank us! Must eat here!

Allegria popped up out of the blue a couple of months ago, and we all felt some excitement at the arrival of a proper little Italian joint in Carbondale. The space is quaint and cozy and feels like you’re at someone’s home. The service was attentive and good, and the food was incredible. We had a party of five and everyone tried a different dish: my husband had the tortellini and he literally almost licked his plate clean(and he eats most pasta with long teeth), my mom had the spring veggie risotto, a friend had the polenta lasagna which was interesting, and two of us had the calamari gnocchi, which was like a putanessca sauce with perfectly cooked calamari and fluffy pieces of gnocchi heaven. The only thing we didn’t enjoy was the veal saltimbocca side, but we let them know about it and they graciously took our suggestions. We’ll definitely be back — it’s a place with a decent price point, great food, and attentive service.
