Stopped in at the Carlin Inn because I was dead tired, and I enjoyed my stay. The price was great(nice to get a military discount out there!) and our room was clean and spacious. From what I understand, a lot of miners and construction workers live there while working on jobs, so it’s understandable that the rooms are large. The décor is definitely old fashioned, but who cares when you’re just trying to sleep? I also loved that they serve breakfast from 4am to 9am to accommodate the workers. Standard continental breakfast with a waffle maker, pastries & bagels, cereal, etc. Easy parking for trucks & trailers with two gas stations right beside it. They don’t guarantee Wi-Fi in all rooms. Some rooms«get lucky», but you shouldn’t expect it. Also, it gets loud around 4 with all of the workers getting up and moving about.

We selected this hotel based on our Garmin GPS. It said it was a Comfort Inn, and since we are in the Choice Hotels points program, we decided to call an make a reservation as we were driving. We were surprised not to find a Comfort Inn, but the Carlin Inn. Since it was late and we were tired, we decided to stop. The receptionist said that it used to be a Comfort Inn, but a couple of years back it changed. It basically now is a budget motel, with a higher than budget price. The pillows and bed were fine and comfortable, and we had a good rest. The place was clean, but kind of funky. The toilet had an elongated seat on a round toilet, but it worked ok. There were a couple of small bleach stains on the dark blue bed spread. The sink light fixture was all bent up, but it worked. The free breakfast(we did not get up in time) was standard continental pastries, etc. — no fruit or meat. As we were getting up a bit late, I asked the receptionist if we could have a late checkout: 11:30 instead of 11AM. She said that the maid service folks wouldn’t be there that long, so would have to charge us an extra day. There was another person there(apparently a manager or someone with more say) who did reverse that saying that the room could be just cleaned the next day since they weren’t close to being full. Regardless, we hurried and checked out about about 5 minutes early. Overall, if we had to stay there again, we would. It is pricy for what you get, but just adequate. If traveling thru the area next time, we would look in a different city and try a different place.

The Carlin Inn, née Comfort Inn thanks to a quick paint job, is no longer franchised and is now suffering because of the lack in quality control. Rude employees, no working Internet, no option for late checkout, poor amenities. Passive aggressive signage decorates the walls. You will not feel welcome. However, the beds are comfortable and the prices are reasonable. Not recommended unless you’re in need of a place to stay for a very short time.

Ok, this is a total one star, EEEK motel. Absolutely awful, low class establishment. I will spare you the details(yellow crusties on the towels, for one, f bomb dropped by an employee right in front of me, etc, etc), BUT I added a star because when I very nicely complained, expecting no results, they deeply discounted my room. Go on to Elko, seriously.

I wish I could give this place less than 1 star. Cable goes in and out wifi drops every 2 – 3 mins, everything is broken. But the rooms are pretty clean and big, other than that I hate this place.

Sorry folks, but if you need to stay somewhere, I would recommend somewhere other than the Carlin NV Comfort Inn. This place had a scheduled power outage, but failed to tell any of the guests, and also failed to shut down the elevator. So what happened? People got stuck in it! The facilities were in poor shape, the door keys hardly worked. The outside doors weren’t locked, and didn’t have any way to remain locked. The food at breakfast consisted of waffles(the only bright spot) cereal and some english muffins, nothing else.

In the infamous words of crack head Whitney Houston — HELLTOTHENAW!!! In the midst of an adventure with Daddy Rhubarb, we were looking for a place to rest our weary bodies. This was on the second half of our trip, so our bodies were tired, and we just wanted a clean, comfortable place to stay. We also wanted separate beds and a non smoking room, internet was optional. Enter mobile Unilocal on my blackberry! I found Ed’s review, and read it to Daddles while we were driving. We decided to stop… It was all fine and dandy like sour candy, until we opened the door to our room. The room had a nice layout, HOWEVER, it hadn’t been cleaned. The garbage cans were full, there were dirty towels on the floor in the bathroom. We went back to the front desk, and they did, not have any other clean rooms available, except those that would have involved me sleeping on a roll away bed or a couch. I vetoed the idea, and we had to head back out on the highway and look for a different place, because there were no other reasonable places to stay in Carlin. The reason they get 2 stars instead of 1, is because the room was nicely set up, and the staff was friendly.

Very reasonable price, for a comfy, nice, well maintained room with high speed internet access(so you can review it while you stay, as I am now), cable TV, clothes washing facilities, and surprise, surprise an overhead light. Why do hotels in the US have no ceiling mounted lights? Surely not everyone wants romantic, I can’t see anything, where the f*** is the light switch on the f**ing lamp, style of lighting? Congratulations Comfort Inn, viva good lighting!
