You can visit the US Army War College in the Carlisle barracks if you want. they search your car and check it for bombs, drugs, etc, etc. you just need ID and some patience. on base they have a PX, subway and a few other buildings, like fire department, police, sports stadium, mess hall, and private housing. one of the cooler points of interest: the Hessian Powder Magazine was build by captured hessians(a German mercenary who fought on the british side in the war of independence) in the spring and summer of 1777 close to Letort Spring. it has stood all these years, with new doors and windows added, but the same building remains. a magazine is a place where they would store guns, cannons, shell and armaments during war time. they build dozens of buildings and public works in the area, but most later burnt in a fire in the 1800’s. later the carlisle barracks were attacked and bombarded by J E B Stuart in the Civil War, during the battle of Gettysburg. His father in law was actually commander of the post. Whats that you didnt kill yourself during my history lesson? then treat yourself to a free trip to steelton on me!
