Favorite park in town. We have a park a half a block from our home and although it’s enough for a small trip, we tend to go to this one because there’s so much more for all my kids which age range from 5 – 11. Plus I can walk while my husband watches them play on the trail they have. My kids also love seeing the ducks.

I often find myself contemplating why the list of new seven wonders of the world does not include Fort Letort. Sure, sure it is located in the middle of a park in a minor league college town, has no historical significance for the majority of the world and is designed for little kids to play on. But man, each time I pull into Letort Park and eye the massive structure in front of me, I can’t help but be impressed. The playground is made mostly of wood with a smattering of metal. These two elements have been combined in such a way to create all kinds of climbing, music making, balancing and sliding apparatuses. Unleashing a kid aged anywhere from 2 to 12 into the fort is the equivalent of taking a sugar addict to the Hershey factory. Their eyes widen, mouth starts watering and before you give them the rules of the game, they’re off. Aside from the fort, which also includes swings for both young and old, Letort Park offers a number of other activities. The stream that runs through the park is a great place to feed ducks and nature watch(or polar bear plunge on New Year’s Day). There is a walking trail at the back of the park and near the entrance you will find a baseball field good for anyone in the family that likes to field a few balls. Need a place for a family gathering? Check out the park’s pavilion located near the fort. Letort Park has a lot to offer anyone who is into being active and being outside. Just please remember to bring the kids. I guarantee, whatever your age, you will want to fulfill your childhood dream of playing on the biggest and baddest playground around. Without kids, middle aged men and women get weird looks climbing, jumping and making music on the fort(not that I would know or anything).

Stopped here so kids could play while driving through state on highway. The Fort Letort play area is impressive. It is all wood and has many areas to climb and hide and run. It is all surrounded by fence so kids stay in the fort area.
