I have used Mr. Handyman from the Carlisle office at least three times. We were very happy with a prompt response. The work was done in a timely manner by professional tradesmen. The work was great, and on one occasion saved us money. I would not hesitate to use the service again!

After weeks without returned calls for a small home project, we had a handyman from somewhere else come and say they couldn’t do the job. Then, the only other estimate we were able to get was from a contractor that was about $ 1200 with a bonus 9 week wait to get the work done. We contacted Mr. Handyman to see if they could do the job. I was not anticipating the professionalism, knowledge and skill that Mr. Handyman, Chad, brought to this job. He was enthusiastic, highly skilled, experienced, cheerful and very professional, and he shared his knowledge about many things we need done in our new(old) home. He was exactly on time for the estimate and on the day of work. No hidden charges(charges by the hour), worked efficiently, and is a pleasure to have around. He definitely knows what he is doing. Job involved carpentry, electrical work, and general handyman things. It was only about ¼ the cost the contractor had asked for. We already plan to have Chad return for another round of small projects!

I pass this office every day on my way to work, so when I needed a very simple job done, I figured why not give them a try. Well, what follows is why not. I called to set up the job, they said they’d call back to schedule. 10 days later, I called again, they had misplaced my info, but we finally scheduled an appointment. The day came; I took the morning off from work to wait for them and they never showed up. I called and finally reached someone, who said the guy had an accident a few days earlier and they had misplaced my phone number(which I had left in both previous calls) so they couldn’t call ahead to cancel. I say, if you lose my number, have someone stop by and leave a note. Or they could have advised the answering service, whom I had called earlier. No reason I should be out a day’s salary just because they are disorganized. I said they seemed very disorganized, the receptionist simply said they’re not – no actual justification. So I fired them. This is really the worst customer service I’ve experienced in a very long time.

We needed some items fixed around the house, and these items were definitely out of my wheelhouse. I deducted a star because during the initial estimate the handyman that showed up was almost thirty minutes late, and didn’t seem particularly apologetic about it. I later found out that this handyman wound up quitting, which, in hindsight, makes sense. The new handyman came out and installed our ceiling fan on the first visit and later returned to point our chimney. The ceiling fan is still hanging and the chimney is still standing, even after the hurricane. He was very professional and was even able to point the chimney while I was at work. So big bonus that I didn’t have to take time off for the repairs. Overall, I would recommend, especially since I couldn’t even get an electrician to return my calls for the celiing fan(we initially thought that we needed to a new electrical box installed).

I am surprised by the continued lack of judgment shown by the management of Mr. Handyman. This was a very simple issue. In the process of repairing a step, Mr. Handyman damaged the property. Addressing the issue professionally would have included an apology and a quality repair of the damage they created. Period. None of this nonsense is at all necessary or warranted. Instead, Mike S arrived for our appointment an hour late, without apology, which meant that I had to miss a meeting. And then he accused me of ‘benefitting’ from his negligence which has clearly been his intention. This nine hours of added value is preposterous. This work was neither discussed nor approved and yet this company has made repeated attempts to collect for unauthorized work on this property. The work quality too is extremely poor: the repair to address the original damage left by Mr. Handyman created more issues. Further, the brickwork we paid for is uneven, sloppy, and will require another professional repair and more expense. And I can’t say that I’m happy about boards with rusty nails left in the grass. I stand by my initial review. In fact, I think 1 star is too many. Given the poor quality, poor judgment, ongoing inconvenience, unprofessional communications, and premium prices charged for amateur work, there are happily FARBETTER options. And btw, calls to the Mr. Handyman corporate offices regarding this matter have gone ignored. Clearly these local offices are given no training, oversight, or guidance. Clearly no one at this company knows who pays their salaries.

After a couple frustrating experiences of utter flakiness trying to find someone local on craiglist to install a window AC unit for me, I turned to Mr. Handyman to save me from the sweltering heat wave. I called in the morning to set up an appointment. Instead of scheduling a time, I was put on «stand-by» and would be called as soon as the guy finished his morning job. A couple hours later, sure enough, I got a call saying he was on his way. Jay, a terrific, professional, friendly, very very unsketchy handyman, showed up promptly and got right to work. It took him about 15 minutes to do singlehandedly what my Dad and I struggled with for over an hour. I was impressed(and feeling slightly incompetent for having hired someone to do this). He cleaned up after himself thoroughly and was on his way. It cost $ 75, which I rationalized to myself because if I had done it myself I likely would’ve dropped it out my 3rd story window, smashing it to pieces, or installed it incorrectly and paid in astronomical electric bills. When I was calling around on Craigslist, people were saying they’d charge around $ 50. While I found Mr. Handyman’s price for a 15 minute job rather steep(hence the loss of a star), it was well worth the reliability, professionalism, and punctuality they showed me.
