Carlynn’s Women’s Apparel

Whenever i travel/​visit Carlsbad i make a point of stopping by Carlynns. Each and every time I have walked out with pink bags containing wonderful bargains. All my purchases have delighted me and helped me create the look I was going for. (Business casual) It helps that the owner can offer tasteful style advice!

Carlynn has a great boutique! My mother was a fashion buyer for high end retailers and I admire Carlynn’s fashion sense and buying expertise! She’s still got it!
I have found some GREAT finds here and amazing quality.

I was window shopping yesterday on my way to the florist to pick up my son’s graduation lei. As I passed by Carlynn’s I decided to step in to see if anything caught my eye as a potential dress to wear for the graduation ceremonies. The woman at the counter (presumably the owner) was looking down at something. Not once did she raise her head. I went about half way into the store (close to where the counter is), did not see anything that popped out and proceeded to walk out. As I was leaving the woman told me she did not see me because I was too quiet and wanted to know if I was stealing anything. At first I thought she might have been making a joke but when I asked her if she was kidding she proceeded to tell me that I was too quiet and did not bother to say anything to her so she wanted to know if I was stealing. I informed her that I was the customer and she was the sales clerk and it is her job to greet the customer not the other way around. I told her she was offensive and that it was not a way to treat people that walk into her store just because she did not see them. She informed me that people steal from her all the time and you never know. I assured her that I have never been nor ever will be a thief and that I can assure her that I will also never be a customer as I will not consider shopping at her store.
After I picked up my son’s lei I walked by and went in to ask if she was the owner. She confirmed that she was the owner and I asked her how she has stayed in business. I told her that if she was so fearful of people stealing her merchandise then she should not have the door wide open and not paying attention to who was walking in or out or at least have some form of bell installed to alert her. If I had such a problem with theft in my store I would also install an inexpensive security camera (Costco has them for a few hundred dollars). When I explained that I did say anything because I did not need her help since I did not see anything that I was interested in she then told me that I then was obviously not her type of customer. I was dredded in a skort, casual v-​neck t-​shirt and flat sandals. Since I was just simply running errands I certainly was not dressed up but just looked like any other casual shopper in a small beach community (I did not stick out as unusual). Not sure if she was this nasty because frankly she did not want to be bothered with customers since she was too busy with other things like reading or if I did not fit her mold of who she wanted as a customer but regardless I felt as if I was on a TV show called «Punked» (a modern day version of Candid Camera). I am a 48 year old woman with now 3 college boys and a husband of nearly 27 years. We have our own very successful business with over 20 employees. I have never encountered anyone like this before and I would not recommend shopping in this store.
