We had high hopes for this company because the owner seemed so nice at first. Unfortunately it didn’t turn out that way so here are the things to keep in mind when dealing with Home Cabinets For U. The cabinets that we got were actually decent quality and we got them quickly. They are less than half the price you would pay at Lowes or Home Depot but you also need to put them together as they come in a box(think IKEA). HCFU offers to assemble and/or install the cabinets at an additional cost. A couple of very important things to keep in mind… The computer drawings that they show you almost certainly won’t be representative of what the exact configuration of your cabinets will be and what they will look like. We had large areas of «filler» panels that weren’t shown in the photos. Also, the configuration of the cabinets will not likely be what was in the images. When we questioned her about this she said the computer images are just representations — of course were weren’t told that until we had received the cabinets and it was too late to do anything about it. So the computer generated images are of limited value. Also, and most important, the invoice says there are no returns or exchanges and it is the buyers responsibility to check EVERYTHING. If there is a problem, they will hide behind that statement and keep whatever money they can. You can count on that!!! They will not take responsibility, even if the problem was caused by them. For our job, their quote was just slightly higher than 405 Cabinets in Anaheim that has similar cabinets and a similar business model(although 405 has a nice showroom). We decided to go with HCFU since she seemed nice and they were local. When our cabinets arrived, after much discussion we finally made her understand that a sink base cabinet was missing. Oops. FIRSTMISTAKE. They had forgotten it on the quote so they promptly billed me for another $ 200 making her price even that much more than 405 Cabinets. They also delivered a totally different vanity set than what we ordered. SECONDMISTAKE. The cabinet over the microwave was shown as 18 inches high on the invoice but came as 24 inches high. THIRDMISTAKE. Seems that they don’t make an 18 inch cabinet but HCFU didn’t know it and they didn’t tell us that they replaced it with another larger size. We wanted the 12 inch cabinet if the 18 inch cabinet wasn’t available. She complained that we had put the other cabinet together but said she would take it back as a «favor.» Gee, thanks. Another 21 inch cabinet was shown in every drawing and image that it was to have drawers. It came with a door. FOURTHMISTAKE! The contractor installed it before we noticed this. She said that she thought we had changed our mind on that cabinet but nobody seems to know how she got that idea as it was shown that way in all of the drawings and we never gave her any reason to think there was a change — she just made another mistake and didn’t want to admit it. In order to get the correct cabinet we had to pay, in advance, before she would get the correct one in LA. When we disassembled the incorrectly ordered cabinet and I wanted a refund she, again, referred to her policy of no returns(apparently no returns even if it is their mistake). She said she would do us another«favor» and take it back but there would be a 35% restocking fee. Unbelievable! She made another $ 100 because she made yet another mistake. Then she refused to refund me the tax on the returned cabinet. And it took several emails and a full month for her to send me that refund. It doesn’t seem like HCFU worries about accuracy very much and they seemed to be very quick to blame(and charge) the customer, even when the problem was clearly created by them. IMHO they take no responsibility for their mistakes. The invoice just has a bunch of codes on it and she, apparently, expects the buyer to know what those mean because her defense to every problem was«it was on the invoice that way and it’s YOUR responsibility to check that.» Well, sorry, but WF3, OCM8, RT18 and B21 don’t mean anything to me! That’s what is on the invoice — no further description. Good luck deciphering that! Every problem we had, without exception, was because what they didn’t deliver what was on the drawings or the drawings didn’t represent what the cabinets actually looked like. IMHO the mistakes and aggravation weren’t worth the savings. If you don’t notice their mistakes right away they will make you will pay for it! Just beware of this.
