This place is rad. Train beers, juke box, good selection and just the right amount of local characters and chaos to keep the place lively. CASHONLY but there’s an atm attached to the building so no sweat if you forget. The bartenders are rad too, always keeping good music playing.

Teeny tiny small bar, mostly beers but they make their own wines and shots. It’s mainly a local bar crowd and they serve free popcorn which is super awesome but it’s cash only which sucks(however they do have an atm outside). It’s a cool little local joint in the Village.

Awful bar tender. Obviously hates life. Gf and I have a beer. Super bowl is about to start. It’s dead. She takes my empty glass. I wait for her to offer me another beer. Nothing. Five minutes later we make eye contact so I ask for a beer. She rolls her eyes at me like it’s a problem. OK, bye bye. Moving on. Go to The Compass. They are better at everything. Can’t see the attitude living and working in this great locale. Maybe she needs to get l*ai*d? Two stars because the beer is cheap, decent selection on draft, and it’s a neat little dive bar, aside from the bronze Tanner chick.

Ahhhh… the village pub! I really miss hanging out here during a night of pillaging the village. Hopefully Pauli is carrying on despite my absence. Stop in for train beers or the free buffet(aka hot fresh popcorn)! Put your favorite tunes on the juke and chill. This place feels like home.

Townie dive bar that I would have rather stayed on my couch that put any effort into going to. Outdated and in need of a makeover.

Love the Village Pub! It’s a great place to start or end the Carlsbad Crawl. What you’ll get there: The ultimate stereotypical dive bar(one long bar-1 bar tender) 90% guys, Beer! Its definitely on the small side but its a great place to just hang out with the guys. Will the bartender is great. Ask for a train beer whenever a train passes by to get a cheeper beer.

Hello friends of Unilocal. This small pub is a gem, a wonder of sights and sounds. a trajectory of music and long beer glasses. I have been here many times late at night with my dearest love and the reason is for the tallest baddest beer glasses I’ve ever seen. And they are only $ 7.50. This is heaven for a man like me who loves beer; and did I mention you get free fresh popcorn? it’s just wonderful. Sometimes, I go there to think and just look at the beautiful wall of bottles or trains and fantastic world class television screens. I always toss a few coins in the jukebox to play some Depeche Mode. The bartender is a classy gentleman of European lifestyle. The bar is made of original wood and the stools are originals, it almost feels like you just entered a wormhole and landed in Europe. Perhaps in Ireland? somewhere along those lines. True, the bar is just like a tunnel, and it has that train feel to it, as if you are moving thru Carlsbad at 80 mph as you sit in a chair with your HUGE beer. Sometimes you can hear bells and sounds of trains going by. This is a little heaven of gem and it’s only one of 3 places I love in Carlsbad. Cheers!

This bar is located in a nice area of Carlsbad along a strip of shops and restaurants. It is very cute on the outside and a bit divey on the inside, but we need/want that once in awhile right? We have been her several times and have always had a nice time. There are sometimes a young crowd that get Very drunk and overzealous but it does provide some entertainment. Yesterday, someone(I am sure a regular) had his big dog in there taking up the walking path… .but I stopped and petted it and loved the fact he was there. The lady behind the counter(didn’t get her name unfortunately) was professional and attentive and made sure we had our beer. The prices are decent for sure and it is CASHONLY so know that going in, although they do have ATM. There does seem to be a lot of regulars that go in and it appears to be generally an older crowd of regulars. Had a good time.

If you want a dive bar this is it! definitely a hole-in-the-wall kind of place! nice to sit back and just a nice drink with friends, nothing fancy, belly up to the bar and have some tabasco popcorn. The only downside is it’s literally the size of a hallway so not much room. Even though it looked like a regular townie bar and we did get a few looks coming in it wasn’t a real problem but then again I don’t really let it be one anyways. Got a drink when I asked for one and was offered popcorn refills when it was empty, no hugs or warm conversation but then again it’s not that kinda place.

Ive always has a curiosity to see what this place is like, and I knew that its very small considering the fact that its tightly tucked between two different businesses. As soon as you walk in you notice the narrow pathway to the bar which is on your left. Theirs 4 screens playing all different types of sport and a limited amount of craft and beers to quench your thirst! For the last two times ive been here its always been girls who tend this bar, it is beer only… so if your looking for Jameson or tequila your not gonna find it here. Its pretty clean and quiet here, since everyone tends to keep to themselves. The only ones that do stop by for a drink are locals and you can tell by the conversations/greetings to one another. ITSAWESOME! Prices for the beers are what is expected, about $ 5 a beer. Because of limited seating(about 12 seats in the bar) it makes the bartender very quick and attentive to make sure your cup is never empty but half full ;) lol oh yeahhhh! I like to come here by myself since its nothing neat to take a group of friends to. Its just a nice establishment to unwind on a Sunday or even after work. Theres no food served here but they do sell bags of chips. Overall, good/quick friendly service.

Alexa is probably the best bartender ever. It could do with a proper kitchen, though.

I love the Village Pub. Nothing like going into a local place, having a beer, and then going home. I love it.

I really wasn’t impressed with this bar. We didn’t get served right away, and the place wasn’t even that crowded. My margarita was pretty weak, more syrup than anything. After having one drink, we left.

Not a fan. Rude staff and rude clientele. Unless you plan on becoming a regular expect to be treated like sh*t. Bartender ignored us, changed the game we were watching(we were the ONLY ones watching) when we had been here for a couple of hours — THEN, had the audacity to speak poorly about me to the other customers, when I asked her to return the channel. NEVER. AGAIN.

I have been to The Village Pub in Palm Springs and I figured I would try the one in Carlsbad. This place is horrible. Extremely small, the crowd is extremely odd and rude, they only serve wine and beer and cash only. For such a small place the bartender was hard to get ahold of because I wasn’t a «regular».

The boyfriend was new to Carlsbad, so we slowly took him to every bar in the village. I am sad to say that this was the last one on the list. Wish we would have started with it! They are beer and wine only, which isn’t why I didn’t give them 5 stars. They got 4 because they are cash only. Not a huge deal, we just plan ahead so we don’t have to pay the crazy ATM fees. No worries though, they have the ATM on sight for those desperate times when you have a few more rounds than expected. Will is our usual bartender, and he is amazing. Super nice, but keeps the place in check. It’s small, so it could easily get out of hand. He’s on it though. They have a great jukebox, and an unlimited supply of free popcorn. It’s quickly becoming my favorite village bar.

This is my spot. What’s better than cheap beer and free popcorn while you drink? Oh, and did I mention that on Sundays the bar is perfect for watching football? Not too loud, not crowded. Hopefully Paul is there bartending when you go, he’s the best. Check it out.

Pub? Not really a pub. It’s small. Very small. Should be called Village Pug. But that’s part of the charm. If you’re lucky enough to snag one of the fourteen or so stools in this chill hallway of a bar, you’ll be treated to cold cheap beers and free popcorn served by attentive and genuine bartenders, surrounded by tourists(trying to pay with credit cards) and friendly locals with eclectic jukebox taste(mostly Pearl Jammy, Policelike, Ramonesish, Princesque, or Bushy), both groups all ready to be your new pal depending on how much they’ve drunk. Maybe everyone’s so friendly because there’s no room to fight.

This is a local bar, the Carlsbad village version of Cheers, only smaller because it is usually only locals, cash only, beer cold and TVs with sports on. They have wine available but I have never paid attention to what was available, no liquor or food besides the popcorn. This place is small and narrow so large groups be aware. Feel free to bring your own food in here, grab a beer and drown your afternoons away
