Host staff is always super sweet and friendly(especially to the pups!). I love this place for the ambiance and the fact that you can sit with your dog(s) inside the grotto-esque area and the pub area behind that. So many great fireplaces and comfortable tables. The service from the servers is usually pretty shitty, they always seem kind of annoyed and don’t come around very often. Not sure if this is because they are overtaxed outside or because they don’t care. The food is decent overall with the crab cakes and fish tacos really standing out as excellent, but the main point is that you can bring your friendly pups and sit by a fire while checking out a fantastic mural that almost tricks you into thinking you’re glancing over the Carmel Valley while you chill in a fantastic setting with a Lagunitas.

There are a couple of reasons why I really love this place. The ambiance. I love the fact that it appears like a little-known eatery tucked away where few know the location. You go down these steps to a very intimate setting that I love. There is a fire place, brick, plants and lovely decorations. The uniqueness of this restaurant really wins some points with me as I have never eaten anywhere like it. To me it just says«fun». Oh and I should probably mention that it is an outdoor setting which is also nice because you are open to the elements! I can’t speak much on the dinner service because my wife and I have only come during lunch time, but their lunch menu is very reasonably priced. It appears that they – on most occasions – have a pretty pricey menu, but my wife and I love coming for lunch because it isn’t very expensive at all and it is very tasty; no complaints whatsoever about quality of food. They also have a cool little bar area where they usually have some kind of sport on TV. My wife and I make a point to visit here anytime we are strolling through Carmel. I am not sure why there are such few stars from other viewers, but I have always had a pleasant experience and we have certainly made Hog’s Breath kind of a little family tradition. Hog’s Breath is within walking distance from all of the Carmel shopping spots and while you have to kind of fight with the street parking a bit, we have never had to walk very far or wait very long for a parking space. Speaking of waiting, we have also never had to wait for a table during lunch time. Again, I do not know what the dinner scene looks like, but if you don’t like waiting 45 minutes to get a table at another restaurant then you can go to Hog’s Breath! Maybe it’s just because it’s not as well known, who knows, but I will just say again that my wife and I love this place.

This place was delicious! I get it was famous because of a movie or actor or something? But the friends we went to Carmel with were DYING to come here. We sat right next to the fireplace so it was really cozy and comfy and such a good atmosphere. I even left my purse there, and I called them and they had locked it away to keep it safe! I would definitely recommend!

Some of the most delicious food I’ve had. Artichoke dip was a huge surprise with how much flavor they had. Was a bit slow but we got there at opening and weren’t Ina hurry so it was worth the wait. We sat by a fire place and had delicious coffee. They had the heaters on so it was warm during winter, even to sit outside. Beautiful setting and insanely good food.

Dined here for lunch during the 2015 holidays. The space itself, both indoors and outdoors is actually great, but the food quality and service really lacked. They ran out of artichokes so they stopped serving artichoke soup before lunchtime even started. How ill-prepared can you be to run out of something you should have plenty of and the day isn’t even half done? Not only that, service was slow even though the restaurant had only a handful of diners. My boyfriend and I had sandwiches that were both too greasy. For the price we paid, it wasn’t worth it.

We went here to celebrate our daughter getting engaged earlier in the day and the fact it was once Clint Eastwoods restaurant or still is not sure? Not sure what to expect, we were not disappointed. My daughter is very picky and she loved it. We had the artichoke dip, the artichoke soup that it self was amazing. The hot bread they brought to our table was so good and each of our meals where so good. Each steak was cooked exactly as requested so tender and juicy, the vegetables were excellent. The only disappointment I find of had was the dessert we had the crème brûlée, it wasn’t creamy it was more clumpy but it still tasted okay. All in all I would go back to this place again and agin and recommend it highly, enjoy

We wanted a special place to eat after my fiancée proposed. My mom suggested hogs breath! We all went and wow! The artichoke soup was amazing I can’t even begin to describe the food! The steak was juicy and the flavor was out of this world! This was a special place for a special night! If you are ever in the area GO! I did have the Dirty Harry and unless you love martinis I wouldn’t suggest it. it was a little too strong for me!

I went there to eat(first time) with my husband and kid. 1) the Décor is very interesting, there is a big mural on the wall. (Look like the country side in Ireland or scottland) 2) Originally I thought this is just a B&B turn out has a restaurant. 3) Continue on the Décor, there is a big tree there, and decorated with small light. Very romantic atmosphere for dating. 4) Ordered Filon Mignon, Ordered Salmon, Ordered Salad with crab cake. All the food is pretty good. (oh, also artichoke heart soup, yeah, it could be slightly thicken, like other Unilocaler said, it is a little bit dilute). But overal experience is good and the staff is friendly and trying hard. Will be back again sometimes

Cute lunch spot. Food was good not great. Overall loved the atmosphere though and heard it is beautiful at night. Salmon and Cobb salad were good. I would suggest stopping here for the experience but not expecting amazing food.

I remember coming here with my mom and brother when I was a kid and drinking hot chocolate by one of the outdoor fire places. That was a good memory and the reason I’m back here today. The outdoor patio here is super cool. I love all of the outdoor fire places and the hog decorations. I don’t like all the yuppies that come here though. Or the fact that it’s super expensive. Or that vegetarian options seemed to be present, but not a priority. I ordered a hot chocolate and steamed artichoke and sat by the fireplace. The hot chocolate was good and my memory from childhood is validated in that regard. I really don’t like the kind of crowd hanging out here though and feel out of place. I’m happy that I decided to come back to revisit my memory from childhood, but don’t see myself going out of my way to come back again.

1st time back in nearly 20 years! I don’t remember this place being so dog friendly back then. Of course, they are allowed at the outside dining. Then I hear Clint Eastwood doesn’t own the place anymore. I ordered the Prime Rib sandwich $ 18 and a Dirty Harry Burger @$ 13. The Prime Rib sandwich was filled with meat they didn’t skimp on it at all. Unfortunately, the burger was raw in the middle which discouraged my husband from finishing the meal. The place is tucked away in an alley but it could use a bit updating esp since Clint is no longer the owner. Our server cams to take the order bring our drinks and our food. It was another server who refilled my husband’s drink. Our server appeared to be busy socializing with the hostess. I can’t say I enjoyed seeing so many dogs or dog dishes laying around during my dining experience.

We had been walking on Carmel beach with our dogs and searched for a dog-friendly restaurant with a patio where we could have lunch. The Hog’s Breath Inn came up and being close to our hotel we decided to give it a try. As you walk down the stairs you’re greeted by a nice shaded courtyard which was welcome(it was a warm day). We were seated right away and the close by guests immediately greeted our dogs with a friendly smile and pat on the back. The dogs both settled comfortably and didn’t interrupt the pleasant afternoon. My wife and I each ordered a beer, I tried the house special which was very refreshing that afternoon. The waiter delivered and then took our order, after a bit he came back and repeated our order, I think he forgot to turn it in as the food took long enough for us to order another beer. However, we enjoyed the patio and ambiance very much and the wait was not unpleasant. Our food was good and the prices reasonable. The hostess also brought a bowl of water for the dogs, and maybe even a biscuit. All in all a very nice afternoon lunch.

Loved the ambience in this outdoor setting in downtown Carmel. The glittering twinkle lights and fire make for a wonderful setting. Service was attentive, especially since they were working to serve a table for 12 at the same time as a few smaller tables scattered on the patio. The food was decent here. Calamari was flavorful but the coating was underwhelming. The sand dabs were pretty spot on, but the mashed potatoes were average. I’d definitely try them again for location, ambiance, and dog-friendly patio.

We were excited to check out this restaurant on our motorcycle ride. First off, the place is nice. The bartender was not pleasant and almost caused us to leave without even considering eating. However, we thought maybe it was just an anomaly so we moved to eat. After 5 minutes of not a single person even acknowledging our presence we decided to leave. The host, who appeared to be management, watched us walk out without even so much as a Thank You or a question about why we were leaving! Really disappointing!

This is a nice place to have a laid-back dinner, and the atmosphere is charming. It’s all outdoors in a courtyard area, with fire places and white table clothes. The menu is expansive, and you can eat for cheap, or a 5 star meal. They have their own house wines, which are fruity but tasty, and the service is pretty good.

We popped in for an afternoon drink. I loved the many dogs on the patio, the shady trees, and the interesting murals. I just had a soda water; Hubby had a beer — we didn’t stay longer past quenching our thirst. The food menu seemed pretty standard, with«clever» Clint Eastwood inspired names while the wine list was rather blah. I enjoyed sitting on the patio for a drink, but am glad we chose to eat elsewhere while in Carmel.

Clint Eastwood’s former joint. A dining room, a pub, a patio. Made stellar by the fact that there’s a fireplace at every turn. Bliss. Mr. Eastwood still comes by regularly to check in. You never know when you’re going to run into him here. Talk about mystique. Make no mistake; the food here is old school & not the star attraction. That distinction still belongs to Mr. Eastwood. We only ordered nibbles since we’d just arrived for a 2 day stay that was chock full of dining reservations. Guinness battered onion rings. Angus beef sliders. Perfect combo we thought. We were right. No, these were not the best onion rings or the best sliders I’ve ever had in my life, but that’s not what it’s all about here. What it is all about here… Indoor & outdoor seating w so many fireplaces to sit by, I love them just for that. Sorry, Mr. Eastwood. Ok, I love them for the Mr. Eastwood potential sighting too. I am human, after all. An all around brick, wood, fire lit, candle lit, animal heads, huge patio, patio mural, restaurant, & pub… kinda place. The vibe is casual & über warm. Dog friendly. It’s homey & the kind of place I’ll always stop by when I’m in town. Me & about a billion other people. 4 stars.

Headed here over the weekend for lunch & wasn’t too impressed. Here’s my opinion in honor of the former owner Clint Eastwood: The GOOD: The ambiance of the patio — super fun & lively! Excellent«Dirty Harry» margarita, especially on a hot day. Dog friendly with bowls of water for the animals. The BAD: Service was like watching grass grow(OMG!). Servers seemed so confused that day. The UGLY: Food was really off. Chicken fettuccine was extremely bland. Fish tacos didn’t taste fresh so I didn’t finish mine. Artichoke appetizer wasn’t cooked entirely. Asparagus soup was really salty. Hog’s Breath Inn did not make my day.
